Obama’s Grand Distraction

Obama’s colossal failure in Copenhagen simply highlights the fact that his perpetual worldwide campaign has ACHIEVED NOTHING! He hopes you won’t notice.

Obama took a big gamble by going to Copenhagen to push for the 2016 Olympics to be held in Chicago. Things didn’t work out the way Obama wanted in Copenhagen and there were a lot of disappointed Chicago cronies of his who won’t be getting the graft from Olympic building contracts they had expected for Christmas.

But the weeklong buildup to Obama’s Copenhagen visit followed by the stunning disappointment did have some benefits. It provided the perfect distraction from Obama’s other huge failure, the one with a direct impact on war and peace in the Middle East.

Not just the sad situation in Afghanistan where our troops are dying while waiting for reinforcements. But the even more ominous and growing danger of a nuclear armed Iran. Somehow, that horrific specter disappeared into the hopey-changey haze of which Obama is the master.

Let’s Rewind This Movie

Ten days earlier Obama presided as president of the UN Security Council in New York. This was the first time an American president had conducted one of these meetings. Gathered around the table were leaders of other Security Council nations including those of our allies Britain and France. Prior to the meeting, Obama, Sarkozy of France and Brown of Britain learned that Iran had been lying all along about it’s nuclear intentions and was hiding yet another site whose purpose can only be to enrich uranium to be used to make nuclear weapons.

Instead of using his position as acting head of the Security Council to directly address the issue Obama instead made a vague call for an end to all nuclear weapons. The resolution he sponsored was unanimously adopted before being tossed directly into the recycle bin along with the thousands of other UN resolutions that are routinely ignored.

Prior to the vote, French President Sarkozy spoke to the council, but it was really a direct address to Obama. It is really a sad state of affairs when the President of France thinks we are weak and indecisive:

The people of the entire world are listening to what we’re saying, to our promises, our commitments and our speeches, but we live in a real world, not a virtual world.

We say: reductions must be made. And President Obama has even said, “I dream of a world without [nuclear weapons].” Yet before our very eyes, two countries are currently doing the exact opposite. Since 2005, Iran has violated five Security Council resolutions. Since 2005, Secretary-General, the international community has called on Iran to engage in dialogue. An offer of dialogue was made in 2005, an offer of dialogue was made in 2006, an offer of dialogue was made in 2007, an offer of dialogue was made in 2008, and another one was made in 2009. President Obama, I support the Americans’ outstretched hand. But what did the international community gain from these offers of dialogue? Nothing. More enriched uranium, more centrifuges, and on top of that, a statement by Iranian leaders proposing to wipe a UN member State off the map.

What are we doing? What conclusions are we drawing? There comes a time when facts are stubborn and decisions must be made.

If we want in the end to have a world without nuclear weapons, let us not accept the violation of international rules.

I understand perfectly well the various positions of the different parties, but all of us may one day be threatened by a neighbour who has obtained a nuclear weapon.

Second, North Korea. It gets even better: they have violated all Security Council deliberations since 1993, and they disregard everything that the international community says, everything. What’s more, they are continuing their ballistic tests.

How can we accept this? What conclusions can we draw from it? I say that at some point, all of us – regardless of our positions in other respects – will have to work together to adopt sanctions and to ensure that the UN Security Council’s decisions are effective.

Notice the expression on Obama’s face as Sarzkozy speaks directly to him. He’s not used to such criticism. If Sarkozy was an American he’d be called a racist.

Interesting sidenote: watch the video as Hillary Clinton bobs her head in agreement with Sarkozy. Flash back to when she said Obama was “just words, just speeches?” How prophetic that turned out to be.

Obama followed up his empty UN gesture by offering the Iranians what they crave most: the recognition that can only come from direct U.S.-Iranian negotiations. These were held in Geneva and the Wall Street Journal called it “Springtime for Mullahs” a takeoff on Mel Brooks comedic farce: “Springtime for Hitler.”

In between, the Iranians launched a salvo of new missiles with the range to hit our allies and U.S. facilities throughout the Middle East and Southern Europe.

Does anyone really believe that after years of bellicose statements from Iran’s leaders and talks with our European allies which Iran has used to stall united international action that suddenly the Iranians will negotiate seriously? Only someone with no experience and less interest in foreign affairs would even think such a thing possible. Ooopps!

Obama has bent over backwards to mollify the Iranians. He even found it difficult to condemn Iran’s murderous crackdown on it’s own citizens following their presidential election. Even as Neda Soltan lay dying on the street in Tehran Obama said he would wait to see how the crisis “plays out.”

The world is indeed listening to Obama. Thus far, all they’ve heard are “just words, just speeches.” From Copenhagen to Tehran to Capitol Hill in Washington there seems to be a clear realization that Obama is all sizzle and no steak. When will someone tell the Emperor he has no clothes?

Truly life and death issues of war and peace hang in the balance. We need a leader in the White House not an empty suit and a teleprompter!
