If Obama is really serious about making amends for what happened, the beer party will be a closed event – no press.
If he’s just using this as a way to reassert his withering “post-racial” ego, you’ll see plenty of press and camera, with throngs of reporters chortling heartily at every mildly amusing thing he says.
Place your bets.

If I were Sgt. Crowley, I’d demand an apology from Gates and Obama before I took my first sip of that beer.

if i were Crowley, I would say, “Colt 45? do i look black to you?” and then pull out my 6 pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon.
juuuuuuussssst kiddding. Just thought i would ratchet up the racial stereo types.

Congress would demand that President Obama apologize to the officer the president said had “acted stupidly” in the arrest of a prominent Harvard professor under a resolution set to be introduced by one Michigan lawmaker.

Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-Mich.) will introduce a House resolution on Monday demanding Obama retract and apologize for remarks he has made about Cambridge Police Sergeant James Crowley this past week.

Obama had said at his prime time press conference Wednesday that Crowley had “acted stupidly” in the arrest of Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates, a racially-infused case which has sparked a national debate on race and policing.

The president refused to back down on his involvement in the case, but appeared in the White House briefing on Friday to say he had called Crowley to explain that never meant to insult the officer. (Obama also called Gates on Friday.)

DRAFT

House Resolution

Whereas on July 16, 2009, Cambridge, Massachusetts Police Sergeant James M. Crowley responded to a 911 call from a neighbor of Harvard University Professor Henry Louis (“Skip”) Gates, Jr. about a suspected break-in in progress at his residence, which had been broken into on a prior occasion;

Whereas on July 22, 2009, in responding to a question during a White House press conference President Barack Obama stated: “Skip Gates is a friend, so I may be a little biased here. I don’t know all of the facts involved in this local police response incident”;

Whereas President Obama proceeded to state Sergeant Crowley “acted stupidly” for arresting Professor Gates on charges of disorderly conduct;

Whereas, as a former Constitutional Law Professor, President Obama well understands that all Americans are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and their actions should not be prejudged prior to being fully and fairly judged by an appropriate and objective authority after due process;

Whereas, President Obama’s nationally televised remarks may likely detrimentally influence the full and fair judgment by an appropriate and objective authority after due process regarding this local police response incident and, thereby, impair Sergeant Crowley’s legal and professional standing in relation to said incident; and

Whereas, President Obama appeared at a daily White House Press briefing on July 24, 2009 to address his denouncement of Sergeant Crowley and stated: “I could have calibrated those words differently” but “I continue to believe, based on what I have heard, that there was an overreaction in pulling Professor Gates out of his home to the station.”

Whereas, President Obama’s refusal to retract his initial public remarks and apologize to Sergeant Crowley and, instead, reiterate his accusation impugning Sergeant Crowley’s professional conduct in the performance of his duties;

Now therefore be it

Resolved, That the House of Representatives–

Calls upon President Obama to retract his initial public remarks and apologize to Cambridge, Massachusetts Police Sergeant James M. Crowley for having unfairly impugned and prejudged his professional conduct in this local police response incident.

Obama apologize? Nope. An apology requires character, contrition, humility and honesty.
I have yet to see any of those traits exhibited by the Kenyan so far and I’m not holding my breath.

Chicago’s Mayor Daley said that Obama should have collected the facts before opening his mouth. “President Obama should have gathered the facts first before commenting on Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr.’s encounter with Cambridge, Mass. police, Mayor Daley said Saturday, wading into the controversy.”

How many times will President O’Dumbo have to prove he’s a racist, criminal, and anti-american before it sinks in the public’s small brain? No question why a racist would appoint a proven racist to the SCOTUS. All he knows are racist and criminals. Just what you would expect from a life long affirmative action rider who has never held a job or ‘earned’ one dime in his life. The only difference in O’Dumbo and a drugged out street corner rapper is the Harvard education (sic) and Harvard is noted for a resulting loss of knowledge during a 4 year tour with the libby professors, also now proven stupid (by a very stupid professor named Gates).

I feel kind of sorry for Sgt. Crowley, he is over a barrel on this “beer invite”, by turning down the invite he could/would be accused of racist cop syndrome, on the other hand, by accepting he will be giving Obama and Gates a pass on their racist comments.

Shouldn’t the right and honerable proceedure have been apology first and then the offer of a no hard feelings get together beer ?

Yeah, but as you alluded to, that would just make it harder for Obama and Gates to milk their greivance politics angle. Right and honorable don’t mean squat to racists.

Isn’t the biggest problem the president? Wouldn’t a decent president of all the people have simply answered the question — “I don’t know the facts” next question. And isn’t that the real problem staring America in the face, a racist president?

@KingShamus:

“..that would just make it harder for Obama and Gates to milk their greivance politics angle.”
Personally, I think that is what this beer invite is all about, a photo op and a media moment for a racist cop debate.

“*”The president sees this as an opportunity to get dialogue going on an issue that’s been historically troubling,” senior adviser David Axelrod told CBS Sunday.

The dialogue I’d like to see get going would be about ‘Team Obama and Congress’ voicing opinions, speaking out on issues, making decisions, voting on bills without first reading up on the situation and issues and having at least a basic understanding of the consequences of their clueless actions.
.

“Gates seemed to ignore me and picked up a cordless telephone and dialed an unknown telephone number. As he did so, I radioed on channel I that I was off in the residence with someone who appeared to be a resident but very uncooperative. I then overheard Gates asking the person on the other end of his telephone call to “get the chief’ and “whats the chiefs name?’.”

Why does this part bother me? How is it a man who thinks police and “the man” are out to get him has the number of the police handy? Did he call the operator or did he dial it from memory? I think this would be interesting to find out. If he’s so convinced the whole system is against him why did he run to the system for help?

While Obama and his traitors are trying to stop the bleeding on Health Scare this comes up. I think this issue should be ignored and the hammer continue dropping on this horrific bill among others. IMHO.

@Captain Crunch: It may have been the Chief of the Harvard police. Gate’s gets his butt kissed by Harvard.
