And even the mainstream media starts to understand.

12 questions in 55 minutes left plenty of time for President Obama to do what he does best: make a speech. Yet this time, the teleprompter couldn’t paste the words up fast enough so the President did what he does second best: ramble incoherently in search of a thought. Along the way he sprinkled in a good dose of disinformation and outright fabrications.

And if you think it’s just conservatives saying this, you would be wrong.

Shortly after Obama finished his monologue, Ben Smith at the Politico penned this:

At big moment, President Obama goes small
By BEN SMITH
Politico7/23/09

President Barack Obama came alive about 50 minutes into Wednesday night’s news conference — when somebody finally changed the subject.

The president’s remarks on his chosen subject, health care, were cautious and choreographed, hemmed in on one side by the calculations of his professional wordsmiths, on the other by the delicacy of negotiations with two houses of Congress.
He never detailed his own plan or named a single victim of America’s broken system, and he spoke largely in the abstractions of blue pills, red pills and legislative processes. It’s not easy to turn delivery system reform into a rallying cry for change, but at times, it was as if Obama wasn’t even trying.

His dryness was all the more striking by contrast with the press conference’s conclusion, when he suddenly re-engaged with a question that he’s spent much of his life mulling: race, in the form of the arrest of a black Harvard professor.

Yep. Give him a chance to do some race baiting and he’s on fire!

But back to the main topic. Obama used the word “inherited” three times (transcript)in a continuing campaign to blame everything on President Bush. What a shame reporters threw nearly all softball questions last night. A good one in response to the blame Bush theme would be: Unemployment is now much higher than when President Bush was in office. Your stimulus bill which you claimed would hold unemployment under 8% has failed. Why shouldn’t the American people blame you for those millions of jobs lost since you took office?

More from Ben Smith:

[I]nstead of shaking the rafters, he spent most of his hour just checking rhetorical boxes, with language so poll-tested and focus-grouped, it was bleached of life.

[Obama] rarely seemed deeply emotionally engaged with the human facts of health care and kept his remarks to a level of abstraction that recalled the old knock on Obama the candidate — too aloof, too detached.”

He described a hypothetical child having an unnecessary tonsillectomy because of perverse insurance incentives but didn’t make clear whether he was talking about an actual child.

He added in a puzzling abstraction about cost containment: “If there’s a blue pill and a red pill, and the blue pill is half the price of the red pill and works just as well, why not pay half price for the thing that’s going to make you well?” he asked.

And Obama repeatedly made the case that cost savings would be found in rationalizing health care without any painful sacrifices.

And as always when Obama speaks you need a Fact Check. This one comes from the Associated Press:

FACT CHECK: Obama’s health care claims adrift?
ByCalvin Woodward And Jim Kuhnhenn
Associated Press
Thu Jul 23, 2009

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama’s assertion Wednesday that government will stay out of health care decisions in an overhauled system is hard to square with the proposals coming out of Congress and with his own rhetoric.

OBAMA: “We already have rough agreement” on some aspects of what a health care overhaul should involve, and one is: “It will keep government out of health care decisions, giving you the option to keep your insurance if you’re happy with it.”

THE FACTS: In House legislation, a commission appointed by the government would determine what is and isn’t covered by insurance plans offered in a new purchasing pool, including a plan sponsored by the government. The bill also holds out the possibility that, over time, those standards could be imposed on all private insurance plans, not just the ones in the pool.

OBAMA: “I have also pledged that health insurance reform will not add to our deficit over the next decade, and I mean it.”

THE FACTS: … White House Budget Director Peter Orszag told reporters this week that the promise does not apply to proposed spending of about $245 billion over the next decade to increase fees for doctors serving Medicare patients.

budget experts have warned about various accounting gimmicks that can mask true burdens on the deficit. The bipartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget lists a variety of them, including back-loading the heaviest costs at the end of the 10-year period and beyond.

OBAMA: “You haven’t seen me out there blaming the Republicans.”
[Mike: WTF?]

THE FACTS: Obama did so in his opening statement, saying, “I’ve heard that one Republican strategist told his party that even though they may want to compromise, it’s better politics to ‘go for the kill.’ Another Republican senator said that defeating health reform is about ‘breaking’ me.”

OBAMA: “If we had done nothing, if you had the same old budget as opposed to the changes we made in our budget, you’d have a $9.3 trillion deficit over the next 10 years. Because of the changes we’ve made, it’s going to be $7.1 trillion.”

THE FACTS: Obama’s numbers are based on figures compiled by his own budget office. But they rely on assumptions about economic growth that some economists find too optimistic. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, in its own analysis of the president’s budget numbers, concluded that the cumulative deficit over the next decade would be $9.1 trillion.

One point the AP fact checkers left out in that last Obama distortion is the phony assumption Obama used to claim savings on Iraq war spending. The war was won during the Bush years and yet Obama’s phony budget assumes it would have continued indefinitely and falsely claimed the wind down as their “savings.” The argument is about as phony and dishonest as Obama’s claim to save jobs.

Americans Tuning Out Obama’s Lies in Ever Greater Numbers

It’s no surprise that the television ratings for Obama’s press conference were much lower than his already low performance in April. With his popularity dropping daily in most, if not all, opinion polls, it’s no surprise that viewers would rather tune in “So You Think You Can Dance” than watch Obama stand there and spin, spin and spin!

How can you tell a dead skunk in the middle of the road from a dead democrat in the middle of the road?

There are skid marks in front of the skunk.

As I said in the Weekly Open Thread, this was the single saddest day in the history of the White House Press Corps and the press in general. Those asking what could barely be deemed tough questions seemed almost apologetic asking them. The rest of the questions couldn’t even be called softballs. I think they were more like whiffle balls.

when you talk in lies, it’s hard to remember what your last lie was. In this case, even in the same speech.

Got to be a downer for all those jopey changey types waiting for their freebies.

Total Fail. He gets worse as each lie is revealed. Pretty soon he will make the bad image of Richard Nixon seem trivial compared to his lying administration.

obama is floundering badly and i think he is realizing that this is a grown up world with real people and not a popularity contest. the american public can be very fickle and the hard core obots may end up being his only supporters left. the public is starting to see just how badly they were duped and they are getting pissed.

bill-tb – it doesn’t really matter if he lies out loud. The press gives him a pass and no one wants to be called a racist if they call BO a liar!

BO doesn’t ‘govern’ according to principles and values… he ‘leads’ according to the polls. What a fool he is. And, he has no spine. If anyone contradicts him, he brings our the Chicago thuggery to demean his critics. Fortunately, people like Bill Cristal and Sen. Jim DeMint – they are adults and consider the source. BO throws a temper tantrum.

3 1/2 more years…. sigh~

Ref Obama’s stupid police remark.
A community agitator never misses the chance at race baiting. It was the cops fault not the Napoleonic self important race hustler professor.
Unfortunately the cops keep their cool. I would have liked to have seen them taser the little ba—- and watch him flop on the porch like a carp out of water. But that’s just me.

@Aleric:

Let’s not forget Nixon’s motives were to keep the Leftist scum from doing what they are now. His methods may have been wrong, but his goal was at least honorable. AND HE WAS RIGHT ABOUT THEM!

And as to racism and sexism…

“While Presidents Kennedy and Johnson had employed the term ‘affirmative action’, it ‘did not have much bite’ until the Nixon administration announced a revised ‘Philadelphia Plan’ in 1969 requiring federal contractors in the construction industry to hire minority workers. Secretary of Labor George Shultz later extended this plan to nine other cities. Shultz also issued the first guidelines requiring businesses with federal contracts to draw up ‘action plans’ for hiring and promoting women.27 In other words, not until the Nixon administration did ‘affirmative action’ begin to become synonymous with ‘civil rights’.”

Nixon screwed up, but he was one hell of a lot better person than the Zero will EVER be.

Oh, and please someone get my other comment out of spam filter. It doesn’t seem to like Debbie Schlussel for some reason, as it’s always snagging my comments when I put in a link to her material.

How to tell when he is lying? Use the presser from last night to learn his “tells.” Then apply these tells — when you see him speak. Also, watch when he speaks on air — at times he experiments with Grecian Formula – or maybe has gray aribrushed on — the patterns change — he shows gray on certain speeches. Similar to the faint mustache worn when “speaking to the Arab World.”

Last night, the difference in his whole facial expression, overall vitality, and vocal tones when he felt convicted to accuse the Cambridge police of acting “stupid” was when he was telling his truths…at least in his mind. VERSUS his manner when he was answering questions earlier in the presser…sounded rehearsed, rambling, and notice his demeanor….he was not convicted in the details — only in the bumper sticker campaign slogan phrases.

Watch him — the next time he tells us the stimulus has worked exactly as he planned — or other such spin…

I have a solution for BHO’s passion as an on air performer…..ABC, NBC, MSNBC, CNN and CBS love him so much…they should give him his own tv show and he could rant for hours like his buddy Hugo. I believe Hugo’s weekly show runs about 5 hours at a time…it would be interesting to see them compete for best ratings.

From 1961 through 2012, we will have had ten Presidential incumbents spread over thirteen terms. Absent detailed criteria, per economic prosperity, societal betterment, contributions to national defense, we rate these ten accordingly:

Kennedy, 1961 – ‘63 (3 years): Negative– Berlin Wall, Cuba, Vietnam outweigh tax-cuts. Authorizing Public Employee Unions by Executive Order was among the most destructive acts in U.S. history.

Lyndon Johnson, 1964 – ‘68 (5 years): Negative– taxation destroyed one-earner families; politicized Vietnam War; reverse-racist Civil Rights, Immigration, “welfare” bills fragmented U.S. demographics (”divide and rule”) while fostering a permanently dependent ghetto underclass.

Richard Nixon, 1969 – ‘74 (6 years): Negative– abandoned SE Asia, renounced Bretton Woods’ gold standard; abusive public-sector apparat preferred academic, legal, medical etc. lobbies to productive private-sector. Resigned rather than face partisan impeachment (note opposite of WJC in 1998).

Gerald Ford, 1975 – ‘76 (2 years): Neutral– an unelected non-entity who traded Nixon’s pardon for appointment.

Jimmy Carter, 1977 – ‘80 (4 years): Incompetent– a delusive radical, anti-Semite, naive and foolish in face of America’s sworn enemies in Soviet Union and Iran. Fuel crises, 21% Prime Rate exacerbated “Decade of Stagnation.”

Ronald Reagan, 1981 – ‘88 (8 years): Near-great (first since Harry Truman)– executive strategist; resolved Carter’s 18-month hostage crisis, destroyed Soviet Union’s “evil empire,” blasted Cuban and Nicaraguan dictators. Deregulation and tax-reduction sparked major economic rebound. Betrayed by politicized Supreme Court appointees.

GHW Bush, 1989 – ‘92 (4 years): Incompetent– feckless and irresponsible. Snatching defeat in Gulf War required later 5-year operation; rescinded tax-cut pledges to tip U.S. to recession; “strange passivity” reflected decades of extraneous “public service” resembling James Buchanan’s (1857 – ‘60).

Clinton, 1993 – 2000 (8 years): Corrupt– purely a media creation; extortionate perjurer, a philandering wastrel who permanently demeaned his Presidential office. Lost half-century Congressional majority, impeachment failed only due to ultra-extreme partisanship. Reformist legislation originated solely with Congressional opponents.

GW Bush, 2001 – ‘08 (8 years): Positive– like Truman, determined and effective foreign policy outweighed neutral-to-negative domestic issues. “Reckless passivity” reflected father GHWB’s– continuous media vilification, even vicious fraud, provoked no response. Preserved U.S. from terrorist attack post-9/11, but never confronted Iron Triangle of academic, bureaucratic, hyper-fraudulent Climate Cultists or hidden-agenda agitators of all stripes. Two serious Court appointees infuriated leftist ideologues.

Obama/Soetoro, 2009 – 20(12): Corrupt– a demagogic media creation, anti-Semite and Black Supremacist, quota-baby and entitlement poseur; quite possibly illegitimate, neither “native born” nor even a U.S. citizen. (Burden-of-proof lies on BHO/S to supply independently verifiable credentials sufficient to obtain a driver’s license, which despite repeated promises –like Kerry’s notorious Service Form 180– he has conspicuously failed to do). Trillion-dollar partisan giveaways, ruinous cap-and-trade taxation, a vicious medical-rationing program (as if advocating abortion, euthanasia, infanticide were not enough) are this political gangster’s stock-in-trade. “I am the Law,” said Frank Hague of Jersey City, channeling Tammany Hall’s definitive Boss Tweed: “What are you going to do about it?”

Over fifty years, then, a fifth of U.S. history, eight of ten U.S. Chief Executives have rated Neutral (1), Negative (3), Incompetent (2), or Corrupt (2). Of the remaining pair, only one (Reagan) functioned domestically as well as overseas. Should our next generation follow such a pattern, America’s transcendent Experiment will be one with Nineveh and Tyre.

I found it very interesting that he couldn’t find a single positive element in the existing health care system, not one. His description of what he was going to change was cast in negative tones. The facts are that the system is excellent, but needs some reform around the edges. In the miasma of the discussion thus far, it is hard for anyone to separate the spin from the reality of what should be changed. The fact remains that anyone that needs healthcare appears to get it although trips to the ER are expensive and there should be better ways.

I also found it interesting that in his discussion of preventive care, which he really brushed over as if it were simply a talking point, he didn’t mention individual responsibility at all. How about the obese, the smokers, the drug users, the motorcycle riders who forego helmets, the MickyD habituates, etc. The medical costs of rectifying these issues are huge.

Finally, he has this notion that if he says it, it will be. Even if his plan were taken at face, it would be a monumental task to implement and it would take a considerable period of time to get up and running. I can’t imagine that any of the cost estimates are other than WAGs, as it will surely take an army of bureaucrats to implement and manage. Maybe that is where the new jobs will be!

All in all, an uninspired performance, heavy on generalities and adding little of substance. I predict that his numbers will continue to decline and when this comes up for a vote in the fall (according to Harry Reid), it will be a whole lot less than Obama describes.

You left out the technology transfers that Clinton outright gave to the Chinese. With which: they are now the nation launching our communications satellites, and which also happens to be the same technology required to make precision strikes with atomic warheads anywhere in the US. The same technology with which they are using to advance their military systems, all funded by the trade imbalance dollars.

@ Palmetto Mike

You left outright political confidence scams: manipulations created solely to trick people into going along with and supporting you, while knowing full well that you are going to betray their trust.
