Quite right. Putin knows too well the disaster that has always awaited anyone attempting to “fix” Afghanistan.

It’s an absolutely perfect, “Come-on-through-blow-your-brains-out-burn-fuel-waste-cash-accomplish-nothing,” strategy by a ruthless but clever Putin. He did not become dictator-for-life by being an incompetent idiot.

Missy, good point re: the “trick box”, for not just Georgia but Ukraine.

Another thought- remember, Afghanistan was Russia’s ‘Nam- it chewed up their military in terms or material/morale/personnel, helped bankrupt the USSR, and achieved in the end roughly nothing after over a decade of struggle.

This in mind, it makes perfect sense to me (and the smart friend that pointed this out) that Russia would be very amenable to the US going into Afghanistan to “settle” things, just like they themselves tried to do not too long ago. They know what a grinder that place is- why not let the Yanks go through it for a few years too?

And the more the US pours treasure, material and troops into Afghanistan, the less they’re able to do something militarily about Georgia/Ukraine/wherever being messed with by Putin.

Argh. Tough problem.

The other day, Col. Ralph Peters explained how the Russians managed to put Obama in a trick box. By offering us flyover rights. an easy cheaper route to get our supplies into Afghanistan, Obama will be less likely to stand up to them should another excursion into Georgia or whereever occur.

Funny that they didin’t offer this before the rube was elected.

His reaction to the Hondurans and Honduras, as they have attempted to stave off oppression from a nut-job-permanent-dictator wannabe, make absolutely no common sense. Any insights haven’t surfaced to explain the strange White House stance.

… Quite the insight. Actually, narcissists do act just like bullies, until someone confronts their egos, then they fall apart, and run off with their ball to play in another park. We should see some of the real O. surface here before too long when someone in the MSM gets the guts to take him on. Right now everyone of them fears him.

I fear for any further actions to happen in Georgia. I just can’t see Obama doing ANYTHING that would protect, save or other wise try to show that the U.S. would love nothing more than to have them out of Russian hands.

I pretty much seeing him do what he has done with Honduras “Hey Georgia! You’re on your own!!!”

All of Obama’s forays abroad have produced nothing but adulation from the American Press – who don’t seem to be willing or able to regard the fine print or the subtleties. Now, he’s off on another crusade to tell the Africans how to run their governments while he won’t say a word about Iran, Venezuela,North Korea or China while he’s trying to kick Hondouras to the curb.
That sounds an awful lot like a bully.
