Little more to it, the Senate is supposed to slow down, ponder, if you will, what comes through the House, vote on the issue and eventually sit down with members of the House and reconcile, combine the two bills into one. Amendments are added prior to reconciliation, some succeed, some are stricken, many have nothing to do with the law being enacted.

Inregards to gas prices, it was Pelosi’s/Dems campaign promise to lower gas prices. Instead, they knocked off any new drilling off the coasts even though the moratorium is no longer in effect and cut drilling acreage within the western states. We have operational capped wells off the coast of California that would help trim some of that states $25 billion deficit. See where the dems are going?

Persuading Repubs, that’s what I was getting at in my other response. Democrats did not fare so well during the stimulus vote, especially in the House. We still had the three in the Senate that went with the dems. Snowe, Collins and Specter.

Can you point to the specific thread? I like to see the hard evidence (in terms of votes and procedures where Dems killed reform) rather than who said what.

Did the Dems have a super, filibuster proof, senate majority when the price of Gasoline spiked to twice the cost that it is now last year? And is it the case that Dems persuade some Republicans to vote with them but the Republicans can’t do this with wayward Dems?

@GaffaUK: The Republicans never had a super, filibuster proof, Senate majority. They also suffered with Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe, Arlen Specter and Hagel, all Democrats in Republican clothing that constantly weakened the Republican's slim majority.

If Bush is responsible for seemingly nothing after the Democrats took control of Congress (at least nothing negative) and that he didn’t preside or have control as a leader apparently for the last 2 years of his presidency – does that mean that any Democrat leader in history can also wave his responsibility when Republican were in control of congress? So effectively the Clinton years lasts two years and anything happened after mid 1994 is not his fault? Or does this conveniently only work one way? Just wonderin’….
