MSNBC Interviewer Cuts the Mic When Discussing Letterman – Palin UPDATE: Letterman Feeling Some Heat?

Loading

UPDATE below the fold.

Contessa Brewer interviews John Ziegler regarding David Letterman’s tasteless comments about Sarah Palin and daughter, Willow.

For background on the kerfuffle, see Curt’s post here.

When the interview got too hot to handle, Brewer orders Ziegler’s mic cut.

Roll the tape:

Letterman doubled down last night.

Roll the tape:

Exit question:

Who, on the left, has decried this hateful misogyny toward Sarah Palin and her minor daughter?

Anyone?

Anyone?

Didn’t think so.

UPDATE:

Apparently Letterman is feeling some heat about his back to back comments regarding Sarah Palin and her minor daughter.

According to Entertainment Weekly (EW.com) Letterman tried to back pedal and gloss over his disgusting comments during tonights’ taping of his show.

“We were, as we often do, making jokes about people in the news and we made some jokes about Sarah Palin and her daughter [Bristol]… and now they’re upset with me…” Letterman says on tonight’s show. “These are not jokes made about her 14-year-old daughter. I would never, never make jokes about raping or having sex of any description with a 14-year-old girl…. Am I guilty of poor taste? Yes. Did I suggest that it was okay for her 14-year-old daughter to be having promiscuous sex? No.” Saying he hopes he’s “cleared part of this up,” Letterman extended an invitation to Palin to come on the show as a guest.

Sorry Dave. Not buying it.

Too little. Too late.

By the way, still no outrage from the left.

LOL, it’s OK for Letterman to trash Sarah Palin for no reason other than to prostitute himself to a sleeeezy Leftist audience, but for Ziegler to point out the obvious MSM bias, it’s somehow “offensive?” What a skank! (ok, that was a gratuitous slur, but I’m sure she would defend my right to say it, even if it isn’t true, like that’s possible, snicker snicker – wouldn’t she?)

Where do they find that scum?

This just re-enforces the fact that if you turn on anything (in my home) to do with the Nothing But Crap (NBC) network I’ll remove your hand like you are an Islamic shoplifter. Total ban along with the Communist News Network (CNN).

I think Letterman needs some serious help. He hasn’t been funny in years and now he is verbally attacking children for a laugh. What a sleaze he has become.

And I must wonder where Contessa Brewer’s head is, when she defends Letterman.

Brewer thinks Palin was wrong to be offended by being called ‘slutty’ and by having it said that she watched her minor daughter have public sex. Yet Brewer was really offended at the end when her network was said to not be ‘classy’.

What a hypocrite Brewer (and a poor interviewer with an obvious preconceived opinion of the topic).

But I gotta say, I dont see Letterman (in the second video) as calling the daughter a prostitute. Sounds more like a hit on Spitzer for being a sleaze.

Mr. Letterman’s comments were not acceptable in any way. While I dislike the comments on Gov Palin, she is public figure and part of this goes with it (implying SLUT is unnacceptable). HOWEVER, his comments about Willow Palin are reprehensible and he should be fired. Since when is it “funny” to imply that a 14 year old girl wants to or would be having sex with a much older man? Isn’t the scenario that he just described rape? How would he like jokes similiar to that about his son? I bet it would not be sooo funny then. How about President Obama’s daughters…would that be funny?

As for the implication of prostitution…it was tongue in cheek but it was there.

THIS MAN SHOULD BE FIRED! AS FOR THE NEWS ANCHOR, HER MIND WAS MADE UP. SHE DIDN’T EVEN ADDRESS THE COMMENT ABOUT WILLOW PALIN. SHE ACTED LIKE THEY DIDN’T OCCUR. Crack jokes about the mother if you must…the child is off limits….

Palin responded beautifully via her Press Secretary:

“Laughter incited by sexually-perverted comments made by a 62-year-old male celebrity aimed at a 14-year-old girl is not only disgusting, but it reminds us some Hollywood/NY entertainers have a long way to go in understanding what the rest of America understands — that acceptance of inappropriate sexual comments about an underage girl, who could be anyone’s daughter, contributes to the atrociously high rate of sexual exploitation of minors by older men who use and abuse others.”

Sarah – What a class act!

david lettermen is an old perverted man, i hope one day someone shows half of this behavior to his son and he knows what it feels like to have your child attacked. palin is classy and she knows that lettermen is a dumbshit who doesn’t really know any better because he spends his time running around with liberal whack jobs. as for the news anchor, she is a joke. i can understand being upset by being interuptedbut i believe that she did it first. it was like she was acting as lettermans defense attorney and was ok with the fact that he was basically condoning rape of a child.

It is okay for Brewer to call her a slut in public – just don’t you dare call her ‘classy’ !

Oh, is Letterman still employed?

So, how is this different from calling the Rutgers basketball team a bunch of “Nappy headed Hos?”

Oh, right, Palin isn’t Black, so it’s not only not a “sin” in this case, it’s a “good deed.”

I just looked at a clip of that, and Imus said how good the other team looked by comparison, AND THERE WERE BLACK WOMEN ON BOTH TEAMS. I.e, it couldn’t have been racial, if he said some Black women looked like decent kids, while those with tattoes and otherwise had a tough image, …eh, didn’t.

No hint of an apology by Letterman. Nor any understanding that the family members of politicians have traditionally been out of bounds.

Imagine the uproar if a conservative said this about one of the Obama girls on national television?

Lefties like Letterman have poisoned the well of polite political discourse. What’s funny is that then they complain about the smell.

When is Dave going to have his wife on his show?

luva the scissors, I gotta call ya on that one. I generally really enjoy reading your posts, but don’t wish evil on a child. How about we just do what the MSM thinks is honorable (in the case of Sarah Palin anyhow) and hope that David Letterman is gang-raped by by a herd of huge black tools until he ruptures and almost bleeds to death. No, wait a minute, he’d probably just say that they weren’t evil because they still respected him. Or maybe he would just enjoy it. Well, let’s hope he gets the chance to report on it to us.

Personally, I think that saying stuff like that would be racist, homophobic, cruel, and otherwise just wrong, but since the Libtards think that it was a perfectly fine thing to wish upon Sarah Palin, I just can’t see how they could be upset with anyone wishing the same upon one of thiers cause that would be a double standard. We all know that the Leftists/MSM/Dems don’t have a double standard, don’t we? (/sarcasm off/)

Maybe David Letterman’s “LIVER WILL FAIL!”

Lord knows his brain has and his sense of humor died long ago.

For this uptight so called reporter to sit and not like the answers he gave just astounds me.
AS A WOMAN, she should be able to relate.

I am sure that her EX boyfriend calling her slut or slutty in public is one thing.
To be called that on nation wide TV is quite another.

But that is where we are today. Where the MSM still wants to smear Palin and think it is A.O.K.
and faun at the feet of the chosen one.

@Old Ez: it’s possible what i wrote was wroing, yeah it was… i am so sick of how they have treated the palin family, even the child under a year old yet when someone called chelsea clinton homely you would have thought she had been raped publicaly. the double standard pisses me off. thses are all children we are talkin about…i have 2 of my own and let me tell ya if anyone said this kind of thing aboiut my kids there would be no classiness. i would rip their throats out, palin has far to much class to sink to the same level that the libs have. make sme wonder if the crap poster and fit fit think this is ok, to go after a small child.

A jerk is still a jerk with or without lipstick!!! People who watch him deserve what they get, but he has no right to spew venom in the name of comedy.

So now someone needs to do a bit about Lettermans wife and watch him explode. Mr Double Standard doesn’t like it when anyone jokes about his family or life off the set, because you know that is not the proper thing to do.

Also why the Hell would Sarah Palin want to come on the show of someone who has been trashing her for over 6 months?

While still in poor taste, I never once thought he was referring to the 14 year old, and the word rape never occurred to me, either. While there is cause for offense, the outrage here is pretty out of proportion. He’s just a late night talk show comedian, guys.

I agree with Cary, the jokes were in poor taste (I honestly haven’t thought David Letterman was funny in a long time) but this fake outrage and pretending he was talking about raping a 14 year old girl and that somehow he said it as a tool of the liberal media, this is why conservatives get called nutjobs so much. Calm, down, it was just a bad joke about Bristol having been pregnant at such a young age, BRISTOL not Willow. Yes, technically Willow was the one at the game, but no, the joke wasn’t about her so relax.

And as for Palin’s classy response? She said they wouldn’t appear on Letterman to boost his ratings (classy so far) and also because it’s a good idea to keep Willow away from David Letterman (not classy at all). Step 1: pretend the joke was about Willow who is 14. Step 2: Because she is 14, it is technically statutory rape if Alex Rodriguez had sex with her. Step 3: Pretend that it is David Letterman that wants to rape the 14 year old daughter. Step 4: Issue a statement implying that Letterman is a child rapist so you have to keep your 14 year old daughter away from him. That’s classy how?

I WORK at the stadium, in the very area where Palin sat with the former mayor, and it never once occurred to me which daughter she was sitting with. He said “her daughter” – referring both to events which occurred with her older daughter and A-Rod’s known past behavior. Poor joke, yes…and inappropriate no matter which daughter he meant, I agree… but I hardly think he was calling A-Rod a pedophile. If it was so clear that he was, perhaps number 13 should chime in as well. I’d be pretty outraged if someone suggested that about me!

@Aye Chihuahua:

Oh come on, Aye…. no he didn’t explain the joke when he said it…. that’s not how jokes work! It’s pretty obvious to me what he meant, we both read the news! … so we’ll just have to go on on agreeing that it was a bad joke, but disagree on whom he was referring to.

So, are you rooting for NY or Boston tonight?!

Ignoring pertinent facts and twisting and tweaking? Is that what the kids are calling it these days when people choose to give others the benefit of the doubt and not jump to crazy, wild conclusions? Aye, you didn’t examine the facts and come to a reasonable conclusion. You read way too much into what a comedian said and blew it way out of proportion so you could feign outrage and make sweeping generalizations about David Letterman, then make even broader sweeping generalizations about groups of people and cable networks that had nothing to do with his bad jokes. Sounds like you’re the one doing the twisting and tweaking. If that’s the “real world” I’m staying over here in sane world.

@RAmdon:

….we are’nt upset. We are merely pointing out…

(1) the double standard of the Left, because they apply one set of rules to themselves, and another to everyone else. They are always so “outraged” at anything about their oPponents, but when they do it “Calm, down” the tell us, when we are perfectly calm, and they are the ones whose panties are chaffing them. and …

(2) Letterman’s “joke” wasn’t a joke, it was obscene, which is another problem with the Left. Yet, desite their filth, they pretend to hold some kind of moral hight-ground from which to preach morality to everyone else.

The lot of you are the real sick “joke.”

and the only “crazy, wild conclusion” here is that Letterman’s attack on Palin by the verbal rape of her daughter, to the delight of the Left (don’t tell me they didn’t enjoy it), is that there’s nothing to be critical of. As I pointed out above, Imas got in trouble for pointing out the obvious, that one team’s clean cut kids looked good, and that the tattooed neanderthals on the other didn’t. And it wasn’t “racist” because their were Blacks on both teams. That was far more benign than what Letterman did, but the Left could care Less about Letterman’s behavior, because that’s the kind of sewage they approve of.

& @carY:…

…where did Aye say Letterman “explained” the joke, that you could criticise Aye for that, and then “explain” how jokes “work?”

Welcome NY liberal Cara/Radon , keep up your blind beliefs. If your at the game tonight and you win a one way ticket for a vacation in Giana, don’t go. We would be deprived of your convoluted (look it up) views of life.

@Buffalobob:

They’re playing in Boston tonight, not NY. (and it’s “you’re” – a contraction for “you are” – if you’re going to condescend, get it right.)

Have a good night all.

@Aye Chihuahua: says… “are you talking out of your ass?

You needed to ask?

And what’s with Cary’s “…good night all?” It’s only 11:22AM in California right now.

@Aye Chihuahua:

I know, but then I couldn’t use that visual if I didn’t answer it.

Nope, not talking out of my a$$ at all.

The fact you are choosing to ignore is the one you yourself pointed out, that Letterman said on a later show … “These are not jokes made about her 14-year-old daughter.”

You can choose not to believe him, and that is your choice, but prepare to be called unreasonable. A reasonable person examines the following:

Based on the prior media coverage of Bristol Palin’s pregnancy outside of marriage (what comedians refer to as “knocked up”) it is reasonable to conclude that the joke was a direct reference to that, and as is often the case with a joke, it was not meant to specifically reference the real circumstances, namely that the daughter in attendance was not Bristol.

So you are choosing to make two plus two equal five. You are choosing to take his jokes as evidence that David Letterman is “a hateful misogynistic pig” and other folks replying are taking it as evidence that he is a pedophile or rapist.

I’m choosing to see them as tasteless jokes and not evidence of a deeper conspiracy. I doubt he even writes the jokes himself, so if you see misogyny and pedophilia behind them, maybe it’s some anonymous writer from his staff that is the real culprit.

Do you see what I’m getting at? To take these jokes and make more out of them puts you in that same realm as conspiracy theorists who claim all they are doing is connecting the dots, examining the facts, and drawing the reasonable conclusion that Bush launched a missle at the world trade center tower so he could go to war and avenge his daddy. You start to sound like those guys.

Come on, man, rise above, IT WAS A JOKE!!!

@yonason:

To be more specific: I’m going to work now and won’t be back online today, and I hope you all enjoy the rest of your day.

@Random:

“Come on, man, rise above, IT WAS A JOKE!!!”

We are “above” that, which is why we know it was no joke.

And, if it’s no big deal, why did Leftard NYSlimes have to LIE ABOUT IT?!

Once again, jumping to conclusions based solely on your wishful thinking and not on any facts. You interpret the fact that I’m busy with work and don’t have time to talk you down from all your delusions as proof that you’ve stumped me? HAHAHA, now you should be a writer for Letterman!

I also like how you’ve pegged me as a defender of David Letterman. My friend, I don’t even watch his show and I don’t find him funny in the slightest. What I am a defender of is being a sane conservative and not having jacka$$es like you and your lapdog yOnaSon making us real conservatives look like nutjobs with these wild “news” stories.

I clicked on this link from AOL, I should have known better, what tripe I have stumbled into, what a nest of whack-a-moles. Here I am casting pearls of wisdom before swine-flu addled brains, if what lies between your ears can even still be referred to as such. I close the door behind me to this nuthouse, hoepfully the rest of the sane conservatives will follow me and leave this pathetic string of name-calling behind.

Yona, you want a visual? Imagine me scraping you off the bottom of my shoe like some dogsh*t I had the mispleasure of stepping in.

EXHIBIT – B (Why they don’t see what’s wrong with Letterman’s filth.)
@Random: says…

“Yona, you want a visual? Imagine me scraping you off the bottom of my shoe like some dogsh*t I had the mispleasure of stepping in.”

The prosecution rests.

@Aye Chihuahua:

Don’t ‘ya just love “well reasoned debate?”

Me too. If only they could figure out what it is and do it. But then there wouldn’t be any need, because they would be on our side, or at least a lot closer than they are. It’s some kind of Catch22, like “If they knew how idiotic they were, they wouldn’t be.”

@yonason:

HA! “The only reasonable view is the one I have, and if you don’t agree with me, you’re stupid.”

Yeah, I’ve felt that way before, too.

@Cary:

“Yeah, I’ve felt that way before, too.”

Still do, it appears.

@yonason:

Nope, not in this case. In fact, I totally see why you guys see this the way you do. I just don’t honestly think that he was paying attention to which daughter it was and put “Palin’s daughter” + “Yankee player scandal” together to = easy, bad, sophomoric joke. I don’t think he put any research into clarifying that it was the younger daughter on the trip, and if he had, may have thought twice about making the joke. While it’s totally fair game to point out, and still would be a bad joke no matter which girl it was, I personally believe that he’s being vilified beyond his intentions. That’s all.
