The Obama worship is reaching another high as the 100 day mark gets closer. And nothing spells worship and asshattery like the painting that will be unveiled in New York City on the day: (h/t Newsbusters)

Michael D’Antuono may raise more questions than answers when he unveils his highly controversial new painting, “The Truth” on the South Plaza of NYC’s Union Square on the 100th day of Barack Obama’s presidency. The artist’s politically-, religiously- and socially-charged statement on our nation’s current political climate and deep partisan divide has been privately raising eyebrows (and voices) since its creation.

The 30″ x 54″ acrylic painting on canvas depicts President Obama appearing much like Jesus Christ on the Cross; atop his head, a crown of thorns. Behind him, the dark veil being lifted (or lowered) on the Presidential Seal. But is he revealing or concealing and is he being crucified or glorified?

D’Antuono insists that this piece is a mirror; reflecting the personal opinions and emotions of the viewer; that “The Truth” like beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. D’Antuono expects that individual interpretations will vary as widely as they do in the political arena. The work will be seen by one viewer at a time behind a voting booth-inspired public installation.

Until now, Mr. D’Antuono has chosen to paint purely non-political subject matter, opting instead for iconic celebrity portraits and hard-luck romantic narratives. However, now the artist feels the need to make a statement. “Aided by the media, politics has taken a nasty turn in the last decade and I firmly believe that this is one of the underlying causes of our nation’s current problems,” says D’Antuono.

“The Truth” will be on exhibit on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the South Plaza of Union Square Park at 14th Street in New York City.

I wonder….did D’Antuono complain about the nasty media when they were attacking Bush?

But when it’s his savior and lord Barack Obama then it’s a problem.

It’s fascinating the witness the “Question Authority” generation who chanted “Bushitler Bushitler Cheneeennnneeyyy” 24/7 for 8 years drop and prostrate themselves at the foot of political power and openly worship.
Fewer things reveal so much about the brainwashed leftist mindset.

re: “The work will be seen by one viewer at a time behind a voting booth-inspired public installation.”

fairly obvious alliteration to the deluded masses who voted for this buffoon. or… more like the true believers who line up to see images of Christ in coffee stains etc… pathetic.

which is what i think the artist was getting at. he’s making fun of Obamessiah. i think.

But check out this image . . . http://www.generationaldynamics.com/ww2010/nixon2.jpg. The pose reminded me of something, so I went googling for “Nixon peace signs”. And notice the flag pin on His lapel (that He infamously wouldn’t wear until His nation made him proud enough of the flag by electing Him) that’s spot on in the Nixon pic. And that insipid smirk. I think this artist got in some rather snide shots, myself. Three thumbs up!

As a Christian, I find the painting offensive. Those who worship a mortal king are doomed to be disappointed.

But I certainly hope Obama gets “nailed” in 2012.

This picture accurately portrays how many Americans see Obama. God calls it idol worship and if you want to know what happens to nations that worship idols, just check out the Old Testament. God will not be mocked.

I find it interesting that someone would want to paint him as Jesus when the most vocal people on the left condemn religion and therefore the belief in Jesus as the Son of God.

I’m with Timothy in that I find it sickening to even compare this POS president as anything near Jesus.

I still ask – What has Obama done in the last 100 days that make these people think he is the best president to ever grace the planet earth?

The left disdain all religion except for their own idolatry. Worship is the highest form of fawning emotionalism, so it fits perfectly. besides, Rev. Wright told us that God sent Barack Obama to be our Savior, so this painting is perfect. The only question I have is “Who put the crown of thorns on Obama’s head?” Does D’Antuono believe Obama has been wrongfully persecuted? By whom? Surely not ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, NPR, or MSNBC.

What to say? There seems to be a self-satisfied smirk and the head bowed in false modesty, and the curtains seem to be on a stage.
It has to be snark…… doesn’t it? “See wonderful fabulous Messiah me? I am being crucified for you”….. on the world stage – the stage of public opinion.
Hopefully the curtains will close – sooner rather than later.
I see it as an anti-Obama statement. (Or just plain snark…..) If it was meant to be pro – the expression would be different and the arms would not be raised as if in triumph. (‘Hurray! I’m being crucified!’ Maybe the Nixon example above has merit.)

It’s funny – certainly got a few of you upset. That’s modern art for you – I’m sure the artist would love your free publicity.

It’s like those Danish cartoons of Allah. See how some muslims couldn’t take it. In a free society religion and politicians should be strong enough to be mocked. I doubt many see Obama as the son of god etc – but people should be free to worship whoever or whatever they want – whether it be a Pop Star, POTUS or some Jewish guy who got nailed to a cross over 2000 years ago. As far as I can see all idols are false.
