In response to the recent hijacking attempt of an American vessel President Obama couldn’t even read his own teleprompter
“And I want to be very clear that we are resolved to halt the rise of privacy in that region.”
Even George Bush was better than this.
What did Senator Obama do about piracy when he was a Senator and Democrats controlled Congress? Nothing. He didn’t even go to the committee hearings on it.

But Obama’s been consistent. He’s always claimed that he’s not just about words. He’s about action, and “words mean something.” What exactly his pledge to stop privacy off the coast of Somalia means I don’t know, but it didn’t stop the Somali pirates who seized 3 more ships since he made his remarks.
It seems like the best defense against Somali pirates anymore isn’t the USN (recall that the American crew had to rescue themselves from the pirates), but rather mother nature’s armada of dolphins.

Gosh darned privates. Who knew?
So Obama has now sworn to protect the pirates right to privacy? Or is he campaigning against the pirates right to privacy?
This is what happens when someone fouls up the teleprompter.
Had Bush done this, the press would be howling – and in Austrian!
Privateering.
Captain obvious speaks …
Obama is an ACTOR, the teleprompter is the real throne.
Good, thanks for the information.
It’s a Freudian Slip which most likely relates to his Administration’s plans to monitor us right wingers.
That was quite a Freudian slip….or was it! This man gives me the creeps.
Gee Mike…it must have been a great minds thing or something…..you beat me by 1 minute.
Obama has a long ways to go to out do his predecessor, but it’s a start….
@mooseburger:
You surprise me, didn’t think you were of the childish bent. This is just more of the same little dirt bombs the left has thrown around through out Bush’s two terms, thought you were bigger than that.
One video shows Bush gaffs, so what, he never let on that he was going to part oceans, perform miracles and be the second Christ. In the other video President Bush makes the same mistake as a majority of us have done. I believed I saw the first crash video on 911, many have, our brains pulled a trick on us, but of course, Bush lied.
BTW, he said he’d protect us and he did.
I came across this article on President Bush’s response to piracy (or privacy):

Yes, President Bush didn’t have the forttitude to take on the pirates. That is no excuse for Obama. He needs to seize the moment and hit the pirate bases with everything from special ops to naval gunnery to airpower. I’m not talking WWII, just a few limited strikes. He needs to do it now, while he has the public’s attention on the matter. The next few weeks will be critical.
“fortitude”, Tom? Bush had no lack of that in his character. He has proven he can courageously bear untold amounts of abuse – even by that of his own nation – in the face of diversity. That is an insulting explanation for Bush’s lack of action.
More accurately, there is no way the world, or Congress, would sanction US military action INRE the piracy… most especially since no ship flying US colors, and it’s crew, had been seized.
The problem with Somalia is what comes after. It’s another long term nation-building endeavor. And the UN and US experiences there are painfully on record.
As far as the logic of self-defense for cargo ships, from what I read, the largest problem in arming the ship’s crew is the various nations who’s laws do not allow them into port with weaponry aboard. Changing individual nation’s laws would be a nightmare.
But I do understand they are putting together options in case Obama does want to go after the piracy nests on Somali land. No problem with the int’l world there as the UNSC has already given it’s blessings for that. However I doubt Obama will go on the offense in that manner.
