Dick Morris – “What Obama Gave Away At G20 Summit Is Absolutely Horrific”

Dick Morris –

On April 2nd, 2009 the Declaration of Independence signed on July 4th, 1776, was effectively repealed, at least as far as the American economy is concerned. It’s not the British that are going to rule us but it’s the British, the French, and the Germans, and the Italians, and the entire European Union. What Obama gave away at this G20 summit is just absolutely horrific.

Geez.

Great post. Thanks

Interesting points to ponder. Not good. I was distracted with the noise in the background…. imagine this is Dick briefing us from a bunker near a runway at a SAC base. Made me laugh as I listened and that popped into my head.

as i was watching this video when he said the declaration of independence had been repeeled, my mother in laws head shot up from across the room. she thinks i am way overboard in my political opinions and beliefs, when she heard this video she about flipped. she, a democrat, wanted to know why obama has done this. fabulous huh? and she voted for the telepompter messiah to begin with. i asked if she has buyers remorse.

Can someone make me feel better and tell me the Constitution will stop all this Obama wish list from actually happening. The laws are in place to protect us from a corrupt govenment , right? Where is Aye Chi, he can explain this .

I have a great quote from Jefferson that fits the scenario of what B.O. is reaching for.
This isn’t exact but close, ….when the government runs the banking system of the United States your children will wake up homeless in the land their fathers found for them.

Voters are the only thing that will stop this travesty.

Frankly, if the Constitution had any weight today, we’d see a birth certificate.

Curt, there is a difference between a communique and a treaty. This was a statement of general agreement on a framework. It isn’t binding on any nation, including the USA. Obama is working on a higher level than the likes of Dick Morris can understand.

Most people on this blog (and elsewhere, in conservative circles) have been trashing the Obama European trip. As I wrote elsewhere, the major purpose was to undo the damage to the US image which was the result of 8 years’ worth of international arrogance. He made major progress towards achieving this goal, e.g.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/financetopics/g20-summit/5105508/How-President-Obama-managed-to-unlock-the-G20-Summit.html

The purpose of the economic summit was simply to reassure the world’s consumers and investors that their leaders agreed on economic solutions to the common problems of a global economy. It was basically group theater, of 20 national leaders, meeting on a world stage.

The idea that this conference was supposed to actually do anything of importance, policy-wise, is ludicrous. It was a one day meeting. Broken down into little working groups. And, at the end of the day, they were supposed to re-make the global economy? Were that the purpose, there’d have been months of meetings and negotiations.

So what happened was this: everyone got to go home to their own citizens with lots of favorable publicity for themselves. Citizens are reassured that their leaders were respected internationally and that their leaders were part of a global response to a global financial crisis.

Obama gets to give the impression that he’s a team player in the global economy, without having to make any concrete commitments. No one made concrete commitments.

In the non-conservative universe, there is a more sophisticated understanding of what transpired:

The G20 Communique: A Viewer’s Guide

The draft G20 communique, as published on the FT’s website, is not encouraging. To be sure, there are humorous moments, such as:

each of us commits to candid, even-handed, and independent IMF surveillance of our economies and financial sectors, of the impact of our policies on others, and of risks facing the global economy;

Major countries have never allowed this and never will, despite a long tradition of such statements (e.g., ask about whether Gordon Brown welcomed frank assessments of the UK economy during the time he was chair of a ministerial committee that oversees the IMF). Asserting something blandly in a communique does not make it true, but it does – amazingly – often convince much of the media to applaud politely. Watching the spinmeisters at work is always entertaining although, under these circumstances, also more than a little scary.

@Larry

So what you are saying is that these 20 world leaders got together and spewed out a bunch of bald faced lies, half true spin, and meaningless political speak. Obama somehow “repaired” our standing in the world by being the most full of spit. Personally I prefer honesty over bullspit, even if speaking honestly is considered “arrogant”. By the way, your “revelation” that this was just a big, global political/economic circle jerk is not news to me. But I do like your spin that we are now “popular” in the world again because Obama is completely willing to lie out both sides of his face in front of global media.

It seems pretty pathetic that y’all worship this charlatan for his ability to lie.

So what you are saying is that these 20 world leaders got together and spewed out a bunch of bald faced lies, half true spin, and meaningless political speak.

Shocked. SHOCKED. to learn that politicians do this.

Have you ever told an ugly fat person that he/she was looking good?

Political diplomacy is the art of achieving your goals by creating win/win situations.

Kennedy’s Cuban missile deal was bald faced lies, half true spin, and meaningless political speak.

Kruchev withdraws missiles from Cuba.

No immediate quid pro quo.

Kennedy “wins.”

Then, many months later, Kennedy withdraws missiles from Turkey.

Kruchev “wins.”

Kruchev was, actually, the bigger winner. The status quo was missiles in Turkey; none in Cuba. Kruchev puts missiles in Cuba, forcing Kennedy to withdraw missiles from Turkey. But Kennedy gets to look like a hero, which, of course, he was.

The alternative was letting Curtis LeMay start World War III.

So, in the end, everyone wins.

We didn’t need those missiles in Turkey, in the first place.

If the G20 Summit contributed something to calming global financial nerves, then it was worth the theatrics.

Great Larry, I sure hope you feel better…doesn’t do a thing for me.

So, if I understand correctly, no commitment was actually made. Just an agreement that, in principle, the US would be willing to abrogate the authority to regulate compensation and “social responsibility” requirements for companies of systemic importance, such as Boeing, to a consensus board. Of course, that consensus board would be comprised in part of the state owners of Airbus, the only significant competitor to the privately owned Boeing.

But, as you say, nobody means anything at these international meetups. It’s kind of like Kyoto. No one really expected anyone to man up and actually adhere to the commitments made there. That’s why everyone has consistently laughed off the Senate’s practically unanimous rejection of that treaty. Oh, that’s right. They didn’t.

But it is good to know that the basic tenet of enlightened diplomacy is to lie your ass off, smile real big and genuflect every chance you get.

It’s not the British that are going to rule us but it’s the British, the French, and the Germans, and the Italians, and the entire European Union.

I can understand why Dick here is upset – but why the concentration on the EU? Whether or not you agree with this new FSB – the members will also include Switzerland, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey & US – as well as Britain, France, Germany, Italy & the EU + several International Financial Institutions.

It is a global organisation. I might well say – UK democracy and EU membership has now been superceded by the FSB and the United States is now going to rule UK.

Dick Morris is the darling of the Hannity mind set world, and Fox news, but Morris has proven himself flawed in the past, so consider the source when this guy talks about anything. He has shown a supreme failure of character when he was in high position.

From Wikipedia:
His tenure on that campaign was cut short two months before the election, when it was revealed that he had allowed a prostitute to listen in on conversations with the President.

Why oh why do Conservative Christian folks of good heart and sound reason even listen to a goof like Morris?

Mooseburger said; “Why oh why do Conservative Christian folks of good heart and sound reason even listen to a goof like Morris?”

Interesting question, Mooseburger. I too do not like listening to Dick Morris. I just hear his voice and I brace myself for extreme boredom. He’s like Scott McClellan’s not as boring but still boring equivalent!

However, I find that your sarcasm(correct me if I am wrong, but you sounded sarcastic) works against you. Sure, it’s fair to ask how come some people like listening to Dick Morris. But then again, so is asking the same question in regards to people who listen to President Obama with little or no scrutiny whatsoever.

“Nothing to see here, folks, move along. Move along.” Eh?

Last time I checked the US Army did not march in to Brussels forcing any oh-so-superior-Euros to buy our MBS. If we are SUCH a-holes, then maybe they should not have invested with us. There comes to a point where one should put thier money where thier mouth is. No one that was crying about how aweful we were should have bought what we were selling. They cannot have it both ways.

@Larry

If you reread my post you will perhaps notice that I told you that the G20 being a media event full of spin and propaganda was not news to me. So no, I am not “shocked”. My post was intended to point out that you are claiming such behavior is wonderful, and that if only we lied and kissed arse more, everyone would love us.

Perhaps if Obama made moves to repair our economy, instead of pouring trillions of dollars down the socialism sewer drain, it might give global consumers more confidence than spending a few days gladhanding, campaigning, and lying will.

Larry,

In that the communique is not a binding resolution, you are correct in defending Obama’s “right” as a politician to spew rhetoric and other talking points. The words are meant to appease the dolts who can be appeased with rhetoric; unfortunately, too many of these dolts are active voters, which is precisely why it is important to point out the inconsitencies, folly, and dangerous rhetoric that comprises Obama’s speeches and agenda.

Without public scrutiny and rebuttal by Obama’s ideological opponents, these dolts will never have the opportunity to hear anything but the “Gospel according to Barack.” Too many of our electorate allow the media to do the thinking for them.

openid.aol.com/runnswim- again, nice fluffy spin, but at no point do you do anything but apologize for the ineffectiveness of the turnip in chief.

“Political diplomacy is the art of achieving your goals by creating win/win situations.”

But according to you, nothing was agreed to or accomplished at the G20 meeting, outside of some nebulous blabbery about “we’re like the popular kid now”. Ergo, no diplomatic achievement by the zero.

“If the G20 Summit contributed something to calming global financial nerves, then it was worth the theatrics.”

How would this “calming global financial nerves” be quantified, or what measurable phenomena would signify that said nerves were calmed? The dow doesn’t appear calmed, as it’s down over 100 points as I write this.

Yet again- barky failed. He showed up, sucked up, and ponied up. When his teleprompters failed, he screwed up. And when North Korea launched, he dummied up.

End of list.

You can try to spin and rationalize all you want, but barky is a callow, empty headed geek whose act is wearing awfully thin after less than 100 days.

It’s gonna be a LOOOONG 4 years for some of you folks. I do hope that even though you have no faith in our President, that you still have faith in the American system, and in the American people who put him in office. There’s always the chance that Joe The Plumber will run in 2012,, so all is not lost….
