ACORN: We Have A Right To Invade Homes Because There Is A Right To Housing

Loading

What a great look inside the idiotic mind of a typical ACORN thug. Here is Stuart Varney of FOX Business interviewing Bertha Lewis, Executive Director of the New York branch of ACORN, about the recent invasion of private property by the criminal enterprise…ACORN:

Transcript below…have to read it to believe it:

Stuart Varney: Do you think you got a right to these houses?

Bertha Lewis: I think the homeowners have a right to stay in those homes until the administrations plan can be implemented…yes I do.

Stuart Varney: They got a right to the house even though they haven’t paid their bills?

Bertha Lewis: They have been paying their bills…I think it’s a false thing to say that people haven’t been paying their bills.

Stuart Varney: No, their delinquent on their mortgages.

Bertha Lewis: Well, they maybe delinquent on their mortgages but there are people still do that.

Stuart Varney: They haven’t been paying their bills

Bertha Lewis: There are millions of millions of people who are…

Stuart Varney: Doesn’t matter, they haven’t been paying their bills.

Bertha Lewis: Being foreclosed on every day and so we have a plan in place and people need to stay there..

Stuart Varney: What right do you claim to stay in a house that you can’t afford and you cannot pay the bills and what right do you have to get my money to pay for you? I’ve read the constitution, I don’t see that right…

Bertha Lewis: Well, I don’t see the right that banks have to get 700 billion dollars to get bailed out

Stuart Varney: No, no, that’s a different thing…

Bertha Lewis: That’s all part of the same thing…

Stuart Varney: No it’s not…

Bertha Lewis: Every 13 seconds, Stuart, people are getting foreclosed on and they have the right to protect their homes and to protect their communities. It’s the most American thing you can do to protect your community.

Stuart Varney: ACORN is well known for looking at banks and saying “give us a loan,”….they don’t give you a loan so you scream racism you then invade their offices and demonstrate outside the private homes of bank executives, you embarrass the banks and you force them to give you loans on favorable terms, now…those loans cannot be repaid, you will not leave those homes and your claiming a right to stay in them and have a right to my money to make sure you stay in them, again…I come back to it Bertha, they may be be foreclosing every 13 seconds but you have absolutely no right to that house.

Bertha Lewis: Well banks don’t have a right to discriminate.

Stuart Varney: Again, your taking a parallel track you see….Where is the right?

Bertha Lewis: I wish we could force banks to our will but….

Stuart Varney: Where is the right? Where is the right to my money? You are demanding money from me.

Bertha Lewis: We’re not demanding money from you.

Stuart Varney: Yes you are.

Bertha Lewis: We’re demanding that the banks renegotiate these loans

Stuart Varney: It is taxpayer money in this plan, which you propose to bail out your people to stay in the homes they cannot afford. You are demanding my money and your saying you have a right to my money. It is no excuse to go on a parallel track and say “well the banks have no right to 700 billion dollars,” that’s not the point madam. You are demanding my money directly to your people. And that’s wrong.

Bertha Lewis: First of all these are not my people, these are millions and millions of hardworking homeowners who are paying their bills, paying….

Stuart Varney: They are not paying their bills….I can’t believe your getting away with this….they are not paying their bills.

Bertha Lewis: Well I know people who are.

Stuart Varney: They are delinquent on their mortgages that’s why they are being foreclosed on.

Bertha Lewis: They’re paying their bills, they’re paying their taxes.

Stuart Varney: They are not paying their mortgage bills and you know it.

Bertha Lewis: Yes they are.

Stuart Varney: No, if they were paying their mortgage bills they would not be foreclosed on, they would not be leaving the home….right?

Bertha Lewis: First of all, you are wrong because millions of millions of people are (ineligible), they are late on their mortgages

Stuart Varney: They are delinquent on their mortgages

Bertha Lewis: And that means late.

Stuart Varney: They have not paid their mortgage bills and you know it

Bertha Lewis: They have been foreclosed on and people need to be able to stay into their homes and so that they can take advantage of the President’s new plan.

Stuart Varney: So you invade these homes with a lot of guys. Your not going to leave, your gonna protect these people, we’re gonna stay in the home….Your a nice lady, your a gentle and a nice lady

Bertha Lewis: No I’m not…

Stuart Varney: But I put it to you….this is political thuggery.

Bertha Lewis: Well, I’m a very determined lady, I don’t think it’s political thuggery and I think it’s thuggery when you put out hard working members of home owners from their homes…..here’s the thing….

Stuart Varney: And it’s not when you invade a bank managers office so you shout racism? That’s not political thuggery?

Bertha Lewis: Well, it is true….

Stuart Varney: It is….that’s exactly what it is…

Bertha Lewis: Well you don’t want to tell a lie and a lie doesn’t make it the truth…

Stuart Varney: You are operating on taxpayer money. You’ve received…ACORN has received since 1998 thirty one million dollars of taxpayer money, three million dollars a year, you are doing this with my money.

Bertha Lewis: You want to know what we’ve done? We’ve counseled 2,300 people to stay in their homes, renegotiation their mortgages, and…here’s the thing. Every single penny we competed for and we can tell you this, if the industry had listened to us ten years ago when we said this was coming we wouldn’t be in this crisis. So now here’s what we’re gonna do.

Stuart Varney: Listened to you? You’ve invaded their offices

Bertha Lewis: No we didn’t

Stuart Varney:you are political thugs, you embarrass banks to give them loans which they could not afford to repay and now they cannot afford to repay them and your claiming the right to my money to stay in those homes and you will have big burly guys who say “we’re not going to leave here no matter what!”

Bertha Lewis: No, we have homeowners who are protecting their homes.

Stuart Varney: Your a nice lady….come on!

Bertha Lewis: I’m a nice lady and I’m very determined lady to tell the truth and the truth is this…

Stuart Varney: You are not telling the truth…

Bertha Lewis: Here’s the thing…

Stuart Varney: Your telling me these homeowners have paid their bills and they have not…

Bertha Lewis: We cannot force anybody to do anything….here’s the thing, you know who are the thugs? The thugs are the banks, the thugs are the mortgage brokers who bilk people so they are delinquent and they deserve to be helped just like big banks and institutions are we intend to stay.

Stuart Varney: And they have not paid their mortgage bills and they have no right to those houses…that is my last word. Bertha Lewis….

Bertha Lewis: Housing is a right.

Stuart Varney: It is not a right.

Bertha Lewis: Yes it is

Stuart Varney: I’ve read the Bill of Rights, I’ve read the Constitution, no where does it say that housing is a right.

Bertha Lewis: Yes it is.

Stuart Varney: Can you show me? Which page? Which line?

Bertha Lewis: Well we have the right to the pursuit of happiness.

Stuart Varney: You have a right to a house? Where does it say that?

Bertha Lewis: If your a hard working American and you pay your taxes and you do the right thing you do have a right to protect your home.

Stuart Varney: I tell you what Bertha, we have a Constitutional lawyer in a few minutes, I’ll ask him if there is a line in the Constitution or the Bill of Rights that spells out a right to a house which you claim.

Bertha Lewis: That’s good….good.

Stuart Varney: But Bertha, we’ve run way over our allotted time..

Bertha Lewis: Have we, well you have to have me back and we will show you how many homes we have defended.

Stuart Varney: Defended? Invaded and stolen but that’s another story entirely. Thank’s Bertha.

You heard that right. There is a RIGHT to a house.

Where do these people come up with this lunacy?

Sweetness and Light has the backstory on the political thuggery committed by ACORN over the years with these loans.

Meanwhile they and their ilk live off of everyone else’s money.

You cannot talk reasonably with an ass-clown.

Amen…

Can’t help but wonder how the castle doctrine would apply here. Bankers shooting at ACORNs would make some interesting headlines.

Public education and our University system did their job well with her. She believes–to her core–things that are patently false.

ACORN thuggery at their finest

Read this and the comments – I am not sure people are going to take this lying down… Bertha is an idiot…

First Rick Santelli and now Stuart Varney. My hero list has grown to 2 people. The anger level continues to grow as the government continues to force me to pay someone elses mortgage.

The tea party is coming!

If the police don’t arrest the felons then the police should be arrested and move up the line until someone has the guts to jail the felons.

The democrat party is full of O’Dumbo’s and O’Dimbo’s, which brings up the question. Is there an honest democrat in the country? It’s pitiful watching an entire political party turn into a criminal enterprise that is outdoing the old style Mafia.

I’ve always voted a split ticket. No more, I will never vote for a democrat for any office.

ACORN and the CRA are much deeper in these problems than the MSM will admit. The CRA got trillions of of dollars of commitments in the ’90’s and 2000’s because of laws stating that the CRA folks had to agree to any bank that wanted to get bigger through acquisitions. They used it to blackmail the banks into commitments.

This just makes the blood shoot out of my eyes!

Is it out of line to point out how close this nation is to falling into utter kaos and civil war? And it won’t be North and South this time, not in my opinion…

They would only dream of doing this in states where they’ve stripped the people of their 2nd Amendment rights. Makes me want to go out and buy up foreclosures and stock up on ammo.

Good idea on both, Wisdom… but make that short sales instead of foreclosures. It’s a better financial deal, as the bank hasn’t added eviction time and foreclosure costs to their bottom line. As far as the ammo? Always a good idea. I’m a “keep your powder dry” kind of girl.

Now we know why the streets have bacame so dangerous. They allow people like Bertha Lewis on the streets without a coat of many straps. O’Dumbo sure brought out the criminals and crazies.

Wisdom, do the ammo part first. I wondered why people were buying shopping carts full of ammo a while back.

Addison is absolutely right; the liberal members of Congress has done a wonderful job of convincing people that they must depend on the government for food, clothing, shelter, education, health care, and scads of other material goods.

Discrimination has always made these things more difficult for the underprivileged to acquire, and government has done a vast disservice to all of its citizens by pandering to special interests and promoting class warfare. By proposing to solve economic problems through increases in welfare and in “taxing the rich”, it serves as a disincentive to personal betterment. In addition, regressive taxation (gas, cigarette, and sales taxes) causes greater hardship to those with lower incomes, not to mention targeted programs like the lottery, which prey on the poor by reinforcing the notion that they’ll only succeed in life by being lucky.

Nonetheless, Bertha Lewis should be smart enough to realize that ACORN’s actions in this case are misguided (to say the least!), but I feel she just can’t help using the opportunity to be part of the problem. She has bought into the lie, and is unable to see anything other than racism in every situation. It beats having to spend intellectual effort to reach an informed conclusion.

Jeff V

I wonder how these ACORN asses would feel if some of us burst into one of their houses and demanded they put us up?

When I’m bankrupt because of ACORN’s “community organizing” and have to lay off all of my employees, I’m sending them to her house.

And ACORN, founded by SDS, and work for by Obama — will getting most of 4 Billion for Neighborhood stabilization – insanity, gotta stop. Can this bill not be taken to court. No telling what mischief acorn will get into with several billion.

Stuart Varney rocks.

Great post, Curt. A small note: “your” is a possessive pronoun; “you’re” is the contraction for “you are”.

Frigging unbelieveable. They all need to be put in jail. There is a law on th ebooks that says you cannot break into a house.
Damn, I cannot beleive this shit !

Morons to be sure, but committed, dedicated, convinced morons as well. Make no mistake about it, this is month 1, and the nation is already on the edge of violence. Obama needs to actually SOLVE a problem rather than just throw money at problems and HOPE things CHANGE.

@Scrapiron:
O’Dumbo sure brought out the criminals and crazies.

I agree. It’s a dark time in this country and the freaks come out at night.
Obama’s actions and double speak totally justify dishonesty to the point of criminal behavior.

I’m gonna buy me a million dollar dream home, make no payments on it (well, maybe one, just to say I’m “in between payments”), and then contact my local ACORN thug patrol. Bertha’s gonna keep me in the house until His Most High President Barack [the Savior of All] finds a way to let me keep my house.

Oh, and since I can’t afford anything else (even though I am one of Obama’s “responsible” homeowners), I’ll need some food stamps, free health care, unemployment compensation, and anything else I can get for free. And that $1,000 a year for five years that I get will help, but after five years I just know that President-for-life Obama will step up to the plate and give me more.

I love America!

(Ouch!! I just slipped on some dripping sarcasm and hurt my back. Looks like I’ll need that free health care sooner than I expected!)

Jeff V

Just some questions for info purposes…no evil intent here (by me at least):

Bertha- how does ACORN select which homes to “protect”? I.e. do they contact foreclosees or do foreclosees contact them? How many people are being helped by ACORN “Home Defenders”? How many of those being helped are white? Will ACORN send “Home Defenders” to help out white people who are in financial trouble?

Hey, just asking…

BTW- if you make $35K/year and got yourself a $600K mortgage, it’s not cause the bank was a “predator”, it’s cause YOU are an IDIOT.

ACORN is a criminal organization and should be treated as such. Of course the Democrats throw our tax dollars at this serial vote fraud and theft group, no surprise for this life-long Chicagoan, fraud and dishonsty is what Democrats do.

@ruaqtpi2:

Isn’t that $1,000 a reward for making your payments on time after you get bailed out on that big fancy home?

I think some may figure out that the benefits from food stamps, welfare and everything else you can get for free just might top that grand you get for being responsible, then you call ACORN. What to do, what to do?

This woman is the poster child for a new America. An America where failure is rewarded, and where success and prosperity is looked down upon. Just think, we are only in the first MONTH of Obama. Housing is just the first. Look out for Social Security, then HealthCare. Soon, hopefully the majority will wake up, get up, and go do something about it. America is a country founded in revolution, and it may take another to stop the madness.

@bj:

We better do something because they are already organizing.

http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/the-obama-white-house-calls-in-the-cavalry/

First, this is ridiculous, people need to be held responsible for being deadbeats with housing. Though Obama’s housing plan is planning on saving a good amount of these peoples’ homes… http://www.newsy.com/videos/prescription_for_u_s_housing_crisis/

I am so sick of people like this black woman that screams racism at every angle. Ok yes slavery was wrong but HARDWORKING AMERICANS DID NOT DO THIS TO YOU! GET OVER SLAVERY! NOT EVERY “WHITEBOY” IS RACIST! OK! So I got laid off and lost my house and now I’m going back and forth between living with my brother, a friend, and sleeping in my car. But you know what? I CAN STILL GET TO WORK! Maybe I can’t take a shower every day and maybe I can’t always wash my clothes but I AM NOT A RACIST AND I WILLINGLY GAVE MY HOME BACK TO CHASE! It was their home to being with until the day I pay my last payment.

Times are tough for the banks too and no one has a right to not be homeless! THAT is what makes this country so great because we are not *FORCED* into things by any thug who can qualify for a mortgage. MY LORD PEOPLE! MAybe this woman needs a real job. I work 3 part time jobs because I cant find full time work and I get by. CAN SHE DO ANYTHING BUT LIVE LIKE A COMMUNIST?

I ALSO WANTED TO SAY that IF Osama I mean Obama wants to really help this Great U S of A of ours (besides RESIGNING) he can tell the banks to go back and call in the loans on EVERYONE they think will default soon. Do credit checks again find out if borrower has lost theyre job if so you have 6MO TO FIND A *JOB* or you will be forced to give up your home to SOMEONE THAT CAN AFFORD IT.

Peter, I hope things turn around for you, your strength while facing your crisis is much to be admired. Unfortunately, as this thread points out, not everyone has your morals.

Looks like this incident won’t be a one shot deal. Has Robert Gibbs denounced the behavior of ACORN? I wonder why.

Colin Powell is involved in the “newly elected President Obama’s” USA Service-Renewing America Together service initiative. This organization provided this for Home Defenders:

In a January 29 press release, USA Service – Renewing America Together introduced itself as a “brand new national service initiative from the administration of newly elected President Barack Obama.

So, could somebody please explain why the USA Service – Renew America Together website posted a launch announcement for Home Defenders in the form of an invitation to attend the kickoff February 13 at Brown Memorial Church in Brooklyn, NY?

This probably wont help anyone’s blood pressure, but read through it anyway.

My post is in the filter, P&T.

I find it ironic. She is saying this is their house.

While you are listed as being on the house, there’s this little thing called the lien-holder. The lien-holder ultimately has responsibility for the house.

If the person who lives in the house doesn’t pay property taxes and the “home owner” moves out, then the lien-holder owns the property and is responsible for those bills.

The house is not yours until the house is paid off.

If these people had been paying their mortgage, then the bank wouldn’t have foreclosed. I am guessing that ACORN doesn’t rely on logic. Emotions. All decisions can be made solely on emotions.

Max #29: Obama’s plan is a postponement only for a larger crash downline.

As I explained in my post on Feb 19th, When Audacity meets Absurdity, it’s structured to fail.

1: It entails the bank and taxpayers buying discount points to lower loan rates for those in trouble. Big beaucoup bucks, and at best, an “economic affirmative action” policy.

2: The majority of those are in homes upside down in value… this program keeps the mortgage the same, but lowers the payments. Our problem is Wall St and the banking institutions are holding massive promissory notes for over valued property. This does NOTHING to cure the over valued assets. If the assets are not over valued, it’s not as much of a problem. One buyer moves out, and another qualified buyer moves in.

Obama, Geithner and Summers are doing the unthinkable… they are trying to keep the housing bubble inflated… the big flaw with their plans.

3: This is a five year “government ARM”, so to speak. Meaning these lowered payments that the bank and taxpayers paid to buy down the rates only last five years. Then the payment… like an ARM… is “phased up”… just like an ARM.

Now think of this in logical terms. You own a home that’s worth $189K. You have a mortgage at 7.5% for $214K. Obama wants taxpayers and bankers to pay for discount points to lower your rate…. already incurred big bucks cost there.

But you still have a mortgage for $214K for a house worth $189K. What if you want to move in two years? Guess what… it’s either a short sale or foreclosure, because the house is still overvalued. There’s the second hit on the banks, and then the taxpayers are again on the hook when they (the banks) ask for another bailout installment. Remember, these loan modifications have a 50-60% failure rate.

What if you keep the house for the five years, the payments go up where you again can’t afford them? Let’s assuming your $189K house instantly started accrueing 3% annual appreciation. At the end of five years, your home value increased from $189K to $219K. You have a mortgage of $214K. That $5000 difference doesn’t even cover the cost of sale and closing costs at title. Again, you have a short sale. And that’s hoping the home prices even start going up again from an already too high existing price.

What has Obama planned? To have the banks and taxpayers stave off a future short sale or failure for a few years… when it will then be the second round of losses.

That’s bright….

And guess what? The CRA has not been repealed and this mess will only get bigger as time goes along. People are complaining that banks won’t lend money. Who can blame them? They just don’t want to lend to another group of deadbeats.

UPDATE:

Arrest Made in Home Foreclosure Civil Disobedience Program

Police in Baltimore today made what is believed to be the first arrest in a civil disobedience program aimed at supporting homeowners who refuse to vacate their foreclosed homes.

An activist with ACORN — the Association of Community Organization for Reform Now — faces criminal charges after breaking into a home in southeast Baltimore on Thursday to protest the foreclosure crisis sweeping the country.

“This is our house now,” ACORN member Louis Beverly reportedly said after cutting a lock with bolt cutters at the home.

Beverly will be charged with fourth-degree burglary, according to Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesman for the Baltimore Police. Attempts to reach his attorney, Justin Brown, were not immediately successful.

Funny you should post that, Aye. I just sent off the link to Curt so he could update this post. I might remind everyone that this is the home of that loser, Donna Hanks, that I posted on Feb 20th INRE the ACORN/civil disobedience. You know, the lady who bought it for $87K, refi’d it for $270K and sucked out $175K cash equity, declared bankrupcty, and is now whining???

It is people like this that suck the system dry. They suck and suck and suck and have more and more kids that they cant support and the people that work and pay taxes end up buying healthcare, food and shelter for them and then end up taking care of their kids and sending them to college or prison. They all live on the tit of America and the tits about to get much bigger and they all know it. Bend over and grab your ankles because everyone is about to support half a dozen people that are living on the system that the democrates created.

Definitely a good idea to stock-up on ammo. That’s the first thing they’ll be confiscating if push comes to shove. Don’t get left outgunned by these control freaks who think they have a “right” to a free Lexus and a nice house (your house) and free money (your money) just because a bunch of idiots elected thier poster boy as President.

Since we have this post I’ll note the additional UPDATE here too.

Donna Hanks, the Baltimore former homeowner (foreclosee?) who was assisted by ACORN in breaking and entering her former home was arrested and charged in the case today.

“Yo, we pays ALL our billz on time. Dey just be delinkwinks. But we pays dem all. We work hard. We gots a RIGHT to your money to pay our billz! Don’t be racist, man! Give us yo money, cuz we black!”

LOLWUT? Is this real news? lol Do black people in the USA really think like this? None of that made any sense at all. I think she drank a 40 of malt liquor before coming on the show.
