Iran ALREADY Trying Nuclear Blackmail

Loading

Iran offered to stop attacking British troops in Iraq to try to get the West to drop objections to Tehran’s uranium enrichment project, a UK official says.

The disclosure by UN ambassador Sir John Sawers in a BBC documentary throws new light on backroom discussions between Iran and the West.

~~~
“The Iranians wanted to be able to strike a deal whereby they stopped killing our forces in Iraq in return for them being allowed to carry on with their nuclear programme: ‘We stop killing you in Iraq, stop undermining the political process there, you allow us to carry on with our nuclear programme without let or hindrance.'”
The deal was dismissed by the British government and Iran’s nuclear enrichment restarted shortly after.
(wow, and that’s from the BBC-hardly a neocon mouthpiece. Odd they didn’t report this when GWB was President).
And in other news re Iran today. Not only does the leftist BBC confirm that Iran is a nuclear blackmailer and has been for years, not only does Iran pretty much admit to being part of the insurgency in Iraq, but…now the UN says they’ve got enough matl for a bomb.
In a development that comes as the Obama administration is drawing up its policy on negotiations with Tehran over its nuclear programme, UN officials said Iran had produced more nuclear material than previously thought. They said Iran had accumulated more than one tonne of low enriched uranium hexafluoride at a facility in Natanz.
If such a quantity were further enriched it could produce more than 20kg of fissile material – enough for a bomb.
Well, if President Obama doesn’t release his Iran plan (he’s had a plan for Iran for 2yrs now, right), then someone else might take action before he does.
Scott, what do you propose the Obama administration should do? I’ve no doubt that, whatever they do, you’ll find something not to like; so I think it’s fair to ask a critic what he feels should be the correct course of action.
As a corollary, as it seems evident that Iran didn’t enrich its uranium and build its bomb, all in the past month, what was it that the Bush administration did wrong which allowed Iran to get to this point?
I guess it’s time to trot out this…
“This is the lesson: never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.” – Winston Churchill
Or, in today’s world of open invitations to join the nuclear club, is this valid any longer?
I can’t help but thinking of Reagan’s approach to Libya. The occassional Big stick (cruise missles and f14’s) applications and Economic carrot. Or, is it impossible to isolate Iran the way Libya was…? I am not sure that the US leadership and general US population has the stomach for this type of business any longer?
Considering that Obama saw fit to return the bust of Churchill to the UK, despite their offer to allow him to keep it for the WH decor, I’d say he doesn’t give a flying fart about Churchill, nor his gems of wisdom, newguy40.
The bronze by Sir Jacob Epstein, worth hundreds of thousands of pounds if it were ever sold on the open market, enjoyed pride of place in the Oval Office during President Bush’s tenure.
But when British officials offered to let Mr Obama to hang onto the bust for a further four years, the White House said: “Thanks, but no thanks.”
Diplomats were at first reluctant to discuss the whereabouts of the Churchill bronze, after its ejection from the seat of American power. But the British Embassy in Washington has now confirmed that it sits in the palatial residence of ambassador Sir Nigel Sheinwald, just down the road from Vice President Joe Biden’s official residence. It is not clear whether the ambassador plans to keep it in Washington or send it back to London.
American politicians have made quoting Churchill, whose mother was American, something of an art form, but not Mr Obama, who prefers to cite the words and works of his hero Abraham Lincoln. Indeed a bust of Mr Lincoln now sits in the Oval Office where Epstein’s Churchill once ruled the roost.
Too bad Obama couldn’t even find another spot of honor somewhere else in the WH for the bust, given to the WH for display after 911. Quite a slap in the face for a very good ally.
Iran has and will continue to try intimidating the rest of the world. They always have throughout history, but now they almost have a nuke and have Russia as an ally. Iran has more leverage more than any other time in history, since the Persian Empire ruled over the greater Middle East. This is what evil regimes do.
@NewGuy: GREAT QUOTE! Great point. War is on the horizon, if the American people are ready for it or not. Iran wants to destroy their idelogical enemies. They are going to try to do anything they can to destroy them.
I find it so ironic that the President ushering in National Socialism returned the bust of the man who warned the world about the power of the National Socialists of Germany.
I cannot think of any war President Obama would be better emulating than Lincoln. Lincoln had more courage and strength than the vast majority of Generals he selected. Hopefully, Obama has also made a point of reading Lincoln communications with McClellan and Grant. I suspect he hasn’t, though.
The great western culture that gave rise to such heroic countries as the Great Britain of 1940 and USA of 1861-65 is in serious doubt in my mind. Although the basic material of those times is still there, I am not sure the populations of those countries now could stand. God help us all.
Well, if President Obama doesn’t release his Iran plan (he’s had a plan for Iran for 2yrs now, right), then someone else might take action before he does.
I would hope so. I trust Netanyahu far more than Obama in regards to Iran. (Of course, I trust the tree in my front yard far more than Obama, too.)
Netanyahu strikes me as the kind of guy who won’t blindly listen to Obama and will gladly tell him where to shove it if the need arises.
