Honor President George W. Bush – farewell “honor post”

I’ll keep this short and sweet. And this is a H/T to Lucianne for the photo… and [some of] the caption.

I cannot add anything else but Bush’s own full context statement from his farewell address.

We have faced danger and trial, and there is more ahead. But with the courage of our people and confidence in our ideals, this great nation will never tire … never falter … and never fail.

… okay, I lied. Sorta… I can’t add anything, but Thomas Sowell certainly can.

Whatever history’s verdict on the Bush administration might be, it is likely to be very different from what we hear from the talking heads on television or read from the know-it-alls on editorial pages.

President Bush’s number one achievement was also the number one function of government– to protect its citizens. Nobody on September 11, 2001 believed that there would never be another such attack for more than seven years.

Unfortunately, people who are protected from dangers often conclude that there are no dangers. This is most painfully visible among those Americans who are hysterical over the government’s intercepting international phone calls, in order to disrupt international terrorist networks.

Many, especially among the intelligentsia, are also obsessed with whether we are being nice enough to the cut-throats locked up at Guantanamo, some of whom have already been turned loose to resume a life of terrorism. The rights of the Geneva Convention do not apply to people who neither obey the Geneva Convention nor are covered by the Geneva Convention.

That a President of the United States protected us from deadly enemies may not seem like much of an accomplishment to some. But it may be more fully appreciated when we get a President who eases up on that protection, in order to curry favor at home and abroad.

We can only hope that it will not take the sight of an American city lying in radioactive ruins to wake people up to the dangers that George W. Bush protected us against, despite an unending chorus of carping.

Thank you, Mr. President! You kept us safe for 7 years. Your efforts around the world bettered mankind. Take your wife, Laura, and have a blessed and peaceful retirement.

I have trusted our President with every fiber of by body. For me the outcome of his decisions have been less important then his intent. You always wish for the very best when you have to make decisions on behalf of others. For those of us who have had to make decisions of consequence we know the outcome is not always as we would have hoped. Life is like that! It is easier to live with the outcome if the intent is honorable. I would never question President Bush’s intent. Those who do and have for the last 8 years are far lessor a person then the President. The game of destroy the man for ratings or fun is despicable and I will soon not forget their names.

I’m looking at being three days away from a Leader packing his gear, shuffling off and a Spanky & Our Gang character taking an oath that he has no intent of honoring and it does not sit well with me. 3 Days away from Obamanation or Damn Nation. It smells all the same to me.

God Bless You Mr. President. My last Commander in Chief and one of the best.
God help US All for the next 4 years. …Off to continue work on my bunker.

As I have pointed out before, remember that when Reagan left office the same liberal intelligensia composed of pundits and so-called presidential scholars all tried to sell the line that Reagan was a failed president to whom history would not be kind.

The exact opposite was true then and it is true now.

I don’t know how long it will take before Bush’s place in history is secured. It could be quite quick if Obama’s untested crap shoot of spending trillions of dollars forces our economy into a deep slide or if his national security policy leads to another attack on American soil.

Plus, as people begin to get beyond the hype of Obama and actually see him at work and not just giving speeches or doing photo ops they may find new appreciation for the basic goodness and class of President Bush.

Thank you, President Bush. I was very relieved that YOU were the President during the difficult times our nation faced over the last 8 years. I appreciate all you did to keep the nation safe and secure, and all your efforts on our behalf. You handled a very difficult job with grace, dignity, integrity and discipline.

I am sorry for and mortified by how you were treated during your two terms, by the vitriolic mainstream media, many of our ungrateful “allies”, and the vicious leftwing nuts. You didn’t deserve any of that treatment. I know history will be much fairer and kinder to you than they were.

God bless you and your family, Mr. President. May you enjoy the peace of knowing you did a great job, and being out from under the public microscope.

If Bush has been getting approval ratings below 30% – I presume this means even Republican voters haven’t been satisfied with the job he has done.

Gaffa,

I think much of the American public, conservatives included, still get much of their daily dose from mainstream sources with an overly liberal slant. “Bush lied us into war”, “No wmds found” has been deeply entrenched. I know people who don’t follow politics but they’ve “heard something or other about torture, civil liberties taken away” and other nonsense that amounts to rumor and innuendo in the eyes and ears of the semi-informed and those others who only know politics from Jon Stewart.

The rights of the Geneva Convention do not apply to people who neither obey the Geneva Convention nor are covered by the Geneva Convention.

According to Feith, it’s because of the very reason that he and the Bush Administration held the greatest respect for the Geneva Convention that they refused to allow non-uniformed combatants to be covered by its provisions. If they concede that, then it endangers civilians by encouraging fighters to hide out amongst the populace without any identifying uniform.

Gaffa: Do me a favor and look up Congresses approval rating.

lol – so in the case of the individual – GWB – its the MSM fault
I guess in the case on congress its the fault of the Democrats and not the MSM polls/reporting?

which way do you want it?

Mike’s telling you no one is liking the government at this point and Congress is in worse shape than the President. No MSM vs Bush/Congress “fault” need be determined.

Gaffa: nice try at deflecting but it doesn’t wash. Listen to Missy.

@ Missy

I agree – so the POTUS and the Congress are both rubbish at the moment. Shame on them both.

Thank you for your service, Mr. President. You did a fine job, and I believe history will show you to be one of the greatest presidents our country ever had. I wish you, Laura, and your family all the best, and I can’t wait to read your book! Peace and love to George W. Bush.

Thank you Mr. President for doing what you believed was best for our country, staying true to your principles and values, and the principles and values of so many in our country. I wish you the very best; you truly deserve to relax and enjoy your family and friends. I am disgusted by the lack of respect by our so called news media. It has become all too clear that some major networks have misused their power; they have certainly lost all credibility to many. God bless you sir! I am one of many that have appreciated your dedication and efforts in service to our country.
