Clinton talked. Bush acted. And now, a nation that was a constant threat to world peace has been transformed into an ally!

What bugs me most about the debate over Iraq is the failure to consider what would have happened had we not taken the action we did. Viewing the 9 minute clip below of the speech President Clinton delivered on December 16, 1998 is a reminder of the constant menace that Saddam Hussein posed to the world and international efforts for peace.

Imagine if Saddam were still in power today. The Oil for Food scandal which robbed his people to pay for Saddam’s weapons programs might still be ongoing. Saddam would still be paying the families of Palestinian suicide bombers who killed innocent men, women and children in Israel. And instead of an ally which has done more to fight the war on terror than any other nation save the U.S. we would have an enemy willing to use whatever power it had to work against our efforts to fight the global war on terror.

“Mark my words, he will develop weapons of mass destruction. He will deploy them, and he will use them. Because we’re acting today, it is less likely that we will face these dangers in the future.” — Bill Clinton, December 16, 1998

That was then, this is now:

President George W. Bush and Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki shake hands following the signing of the Strategic Framework Agreement and Security Agreement at a joint news conference Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at the Prime Minister’s Palace in Baghdad. President Bush said, ” The agreements represent a shared vision on the way forward in Iraq.” White House photo by Eric Draper

Ten years! It seems like a lifetime. But things have changed for the BETTER all due to the leadership and vision of President Bush!

Thanks for the reminder Johnny Utah!

I think that is one of the reasons I am so frustrated with the MSM. They never mention things like that. Of course, only Dems can say things like that. Not Reps. We are the war-mongers.
Also, the very very short memory of the American people has me frustrated as well. They seem to live in a world of their own, and only come out to pay attention in the month of Ocotber before an election. All the other times they have their heads up their butts! And then they listen to the MSM. Nuts!

Lorraine, exactly right. I remember the silence from the left when Clinton launched the strikes. I remeber their silence when he unilaterally went into Kosovo without the approval of Congress or the U.N. You know, the things they demanded Bush have or not go to war at all.

Just remember this is how the left thinks:

Republican= What they do is bad no matter what
Dem= What they do is Ok no matter what.

Bush acted! Does Mike America believe that Bush would’ve invaded if it were not for 9/11? And don’t forget, Bush offered Saddam a few ultimatums. Clinto talked and Bush acted! I can just imagine that Republicans would’ve LINED up to invade with little or no support from the rest of the world! They would’ve accused him of trying to divert away from lewinsky – oh – that’s what they did as Clinton tried to convince America that bin Laden was a threat…a threat IGNORED by REPUBLICANS…

I wish I could get some of my Bush-hating friends to sit still for the Clinton video. Most of them simply refuse to understand the scope of the threat that Hussein posed, and the history that went into the decision to use force in Iraq. They want to make it such a single party issue, when the responsibility for the war lies with everyone in Washington, not just Bush.

That’s funny I remember the silence from the left and the outrage from the right over both of those.

Just remember this is how the right thinks:

Dem= What they do is bad no matter what
Republican= What they do is Ok no matter what.

Another try at spin that fails miserably, Fit. I knew one of you lefties would try that lame arguement.

The Right criticized Clinton due to the timing of the cruise missile attacks, NOT for merely doing it.

For Kosovo we had no national security intersts there whatsoever–we did in Iraq and Afghanistan.
We also understood Clinton was within his power as CINC to send troops somewhere without Congressional authorization. The left doesn’t care, so long as a dem is doing it.

I for one just LOVE badgering gutless, hate-filled, anti-military extremists about their SILENCE as that draft-dodging, pot-smoking womanizer sent troops to die in places thast NEVER attacked us, like BOSNIA!!!!!

Gutless, hate-filled, anti-military extremists DO NOT like going back to that time in American history; they start popping springs when you try to discuss that with them, and will go out of their way to avoid discussing the UNECESSARY deaths of Soldiers that took place in countries that cliton sent troops to; countries that NEVER attacked us, like BOSNIA!!!!

Funny how they love to rant and rave about “Bush’s war”, but they’re mysteriously silent when it comes to cliton’s war!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@simply done: What’s your point? Is that supposed to be bad news? Sounds like a positive to me. It’ll be generations before they’re corrupt-free, like our own politicians. ;) Good to see them doing the necessary weeding while gardening.

Corruption in Iraq? Much lower than it is in Obama’s Chicago. Doesn’t Iraq have a lower murder rate than Obama’s Chicago too?

(Yahoo) Interior Minister Jawad al-Bolani told The Associated Press that an investigating judge ordered the officials released “because they are innocent” and that there was no evidence that they attempted to restore the Baath party, whose exiled leaders staunchly oppose the current government.

He said 19 were freed from custody and that charges were to be dismissed against the remaining four who were not in custody. Earlier in the day, al-Bolani told reporters that the charges were politically motivated by those trying to undermine the interior ministry.

The issue now for Iraqis isn’t how many “generations it will take [for them] to be corrupt-free”, the problem is more immediate; it’s how to keep the massive factional corruption inside the Iraqi government from intensifying, reflected in its security forces, and igniting competing parties tempers as they position themselves for the provincial elections. This is the more immediate problem.

This first little dangerous step of falsely arresting political opponents, and releasing allies can easily lead to finally shooting, bombing, and kidnapping your opponents.

If you wouldn’t have mentioned “Iraqis”, I could have swear you were talking about the US Democrat’s Congress… lol

Ms. Warp’ed… why don’t you give us a few links to examples of Clinton, pleading with the GOP Congress to take action on Bin Laden. Or perhaps some policies and diplomatic efforts he proposed in order to get Bin Laden.

Or are you again just running off at the mouth?

ooops… that’s right. Clinton didn’t act when he could in 1996… despite OBL’s relationship with the 1993 WTC bombers, and despite the fact OBL trained the Somalis who multilated our soldiers in 1993. Instead, he tried to get Saudi Arabia to take OBL off Sudan’s hands…

From a 2002 Clinton speech

Clinton: So we tried to be quite aggressive with them [al Qaeda]. We got – well, Mr. bin Laden used to live in Sudan. He was expelled from Saudi Arabia in 1991, then he went to Sudan. And we’d been hearing that the Sudanese wanted America to start dealing with them again. They released him.

At the time, 1996, he had committed no crime against America, so I did not bring him here because we had no basis on which to hold him, though we knew he wanted to commit crimes against America. So I pleaded with the Saudis to take him, ’cause they could have. But they thought it was a hot potato and they didn’t and that’s how he wound up in Afghanistan.

Of course, in 2004, Teflon Bill retracted his statements when testifying for the 911 Commission. Just couldn’t take that much scrutiny into his lack of performance INRE the global Islamic jihad movements increasing their assaults against US interests.

I’d suggest you start searching for some links to back up your charges, or I personally will stop digging you out of the spam filter…. for evidently Askimet has a good handle on who and what you are… political spam. And it’s much easier for me to hit the “delete all” button then find your posts to approve. Especially since they offer absolutely nothing but rabid, partisan lies.
