I’ve installed a Captcha type safeguard for comments and have disabled the anti-spam plugins that have had a ton of false positives for folks wanting to leave comments on Flopping Aces. While it may be a pain to type in the image, I’m hoping it will be less aggravation then having your comment marked as spam.

I’ve set it to allow those who are registered and logged in to not have to go through the Captcha test. So, if your not registered here at FA go here and register. Will save you time.

UPDATED

Well, that didn’t last long. Too many complaints that comments were getting lost in the ether so I’ve uninstalled it and put back the old one. Oh well, I tried.

UPDATED

The OpenID login will allow anyone who comments to bypass moderation so if your having trouble getting past the spam filters get a OpenID and login with that ID.

Also, what do the readers think of only allowing those logged in to comment, just like the big guys ie. Hot Air and LGF? That way I can get rid of the spam filters altogether.

It’s a trade off, and worth it. It takes less time than writing to you every time my comments are snagged.

I don’t really like that idea, unless you can make it easier to get registered. It took me almost 9 months to get registered at HotAir, despite numerous email requests to do so.

As one of your “token liberals” here, I can offer the same praise for this site. I find that the vast majority of commentators here are well informed, civil, and offer a formidable challenge to my own perceptions. I’m able to fine tune my rhetoric, see the other side, and sometimes even change my stance.

That said, I have no problem logging into your site, if you’ll continue to have me.

Speaking for my own habits, I’m too lazy to register and log in at those places; I once had registered at the Anchoress, but ran into login problems with wordpress and didn’t have the patience to resolve it. So I just leach off of those sites without leaving behind my footprint.

Really?!?

I think we’re the most ill-mannered, knuckle-dragging wingnut partisan hacks around, towing the Rush talking points and holding Hannity’s jock strap (I’m only partially joking here….I listen to neither Rush nor Hannity)….. ;) …..I’m amazed you’re still here.

Glad you saw fit to stick around.

@Wordsmith: Politics, for me, are what a sports season are for others. We all have our favorite teams, and root for them with passion. Election Days are my Superbowls! Of course, the passions run even greater because with politics, the outcomes affect our lives directly. I think many times our perspectives our different, based on what our needs are. Those in “fly over country” lead very different lives than those of us on the coasts. For instance, someone in AZ has a very different use for their guns than those who have them here in NYC – thus, my stance on gun control is what it is.

Tempers and passions may run high, and there have been some here (at times myself included) who resort to ad hominem rhetoric. But, overall, I feel a mutual respect even in our strong disagreements.

So thank you.

Cary,

You’ll be eagerly seeking the exits the next time Mike trots through wearing his lavender FA thong.

Just sayin’

Lavender thong? I hate when someone wears the same outfit as me. ;)

BTW, as an LGF member I have no problem with logging into sites. It helps cut down on drive by trolls.

hahaha! Nice to start my day with a laugh!

I live in New York City, so trust me, I can handle it! Just don’t ask me to put one on myself, I don’t look very masculine in lavender – perhaps a camouflage green?

And perhaps I can get us a free trial gym membership – we’ll all look smashing! ;)

Aye: I loaned you that thong and you never gave it back!

I too have been frustrated with the spam filters. Some times I just say open the floodgates and let all the garbage in and then I get tired of sorting through it all.

The troll problem is a separate issue and it’s one that probably occupies more time behind the scenes with the contributing authors than any other.

I like the idea of a registered members site but like Wordsmith, had trouble with the logins at a few of them and no longer comment there because it was too much trouble.

So I guess I come down on the side of a more open process that also has it’s limitations and just try and keep Yonason’s comments out of the spam filter as much as we can.

P.S. Aye: Did you miss Custer’s comment a while back nominating me for President because I don’t take no s#$t from the lefties?

SIGN THE PETITION TO FORCE BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA TO PRESENT HIS QUALIFICATIONS.

PETITION FOR PUBLIC RELEASE OF
BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA’S BIRTH CERTIFICATE

To: Electoral College, Congress of the United States, Federal Elections Commission, U.S. Supreme Court, President of the United States, other controlling legal authorities

Whereas, by requirement of the United States Constitution, Article 2, Section 1, no one can be sworn into office as president of the United States without being a natural born citizen;

Whereas, there is sufficient controversy within the citizenry of the United States as to whether presidential election winner Barack Obama was actually born in Hawaii as he claims;

Whereas, Barack Obama has refused repeated calls to release publicly his entire Hawaiian birth certificate, which would include the actual hospital that performed the delivery;

Whereas, lawsuits filed in several states seeking only proof of the basic minimal standard of eligibility have been rebuffed;

Whereas, Hawaii at the time of Obama’s birth allowed births that took place in foreign countries to be registered in Hawaii;

Whereas, concerns that our government is not taking this constitutional question seriously will result in diminished confidence in our system of free and fair elections;

I can’t register. I get an error message each time I try no matter what I put in. And the capcha words are too hard to read. They are smudged.

Thanks Curt;
I didn’t really mind that much getting caught in the moderator filter once in a while before, but the new one was a bit frustrating when I would hit send and everything I wrote would just vanish. Kind of a pain, trying to remember everything I had just typed with some of the long posts I’m admittedly prone to LOL. What was also weird with the captcha filter is the word pairs sometimes looked like they included punctuation & sometimes included caps mid-word. Lost a couple of entries to that too until I just gave up and started using the log in every time.

It also looks like the fly-by troll posts have dropped down quite a bit compared to before the election. But of course we posters had the option to ignore those not worth responding too. Glad Craig has accepted that he need not respond to every one of them, it was obviously getting his blood boiling, but it appears he’s calmed down and it’s good to see he’s still around as our foreign friends do get insights into the issues we may not be aware of due to our country’s media screening processes.
