Today must be Unusual Military Operations Day. First we get the report about Pakistan shooting down a U.S. drone, then the Iranian ship captured by Somali pirates might have chemical weapons on it ’cause the pirates are losing their hair and dying off, and now this story about the Pakistani Army retaking a key tunnel in the tribal areas near where Osama Bin Laden is suspected of hiding. But wait! There’s more! This isn’t just some dug out cave left over from before the time of Alexander the Great. Nope. This is an honest to goodness real highway tunnel!

…and it’s not as if it were a few bandits either.

More than 50 militants have been killed in the ongoing military operation in Darra Adam Khel, while one security personnel also died, according to a statement issued by the military on Tuesday.

“At least 50 militants were eliminated and one soldier was martyred in two days of clashes in Darra Adam Khel,” ISPR Spokesman Maj Murad Khan was quoted as saying.

The statement said the security forces had secured major portions of the Indus Highway, cleared the Kohat Tunnel, and successfully evicted Taliban from their roadside hideouts, on the second day of the operation. The strategic Kohat Tunnel is likely to be opened to traffic before Eid.
