Obama Ad Mocks McCain’s Prisoner of War Wounds

Loading

Clearly, Senator Obama is showing that his pledge for a new kind of politics is just a lie. His latest ad mocks Senator McCain for not using a computer or sending email, but the reality is that it’s been well known and well reported that he can’t because his war wounds make it too difficult.

The Boston Globe reported this 8yrs ago

McCain gets emotional at the mention of military families needing food stamps or veterans lacking health care. The outrage comes from inside: McCain’s severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes.

Friends marvel at McCain’s encyclopedic knowledge of sports. He’s an avid fan – Ted Williams is his hero – but he can’t raise his arm above his shoulder to throw a baseball.

After Vietnam, McCain had Ann Lawrence, a physical therapist, help him regain flexibility in his leg, which had been frozen in an extended position by a shattered knee. It was the only way he could hope to resume his career as a Navy flier, but Lawrence said the treatment, taken twice a week for six months, was excruciatingly painful.

”He endured it, he wouldn’t settle for less,” said Lawrence, who rejoiced with McCain when he passed the Navy physical. ”I have never seen such toughness and resolve.”

New York Times reported on this a year ago:

Q: What websites if any do you look at regularly?

Mr. McCain: Brooke and Mark show me Drudge, obviously, everybody watches, for better or for worse, Drudge. Sometimes I look at Politico. Sometimes RealPolitics, sometimes.
(Mrs. McCain and Ms. Buchanan both interject: “Meagan’s blog!”)

Mr. McCain: Excuse me, Meagan’s blog. And we also look at the blogs from Michael and from you that may not be in the newspaper, that are just part of your blog.

Q: But do you go on line for yourself?

Mr. McCain: They go on for me. I am learning to get online myself, and I will have that down fairly soon, getting on myself. I don’t expect to be a great communicator, I don’t expect to set up my own blog, but I am becoming computer literate to the point where I can get the information that I need – including going to my daughter’s blog first, before anything else.

Forbes Magazine reported on it 8yrs ago as well…

In certain ways, McCain was a natural Web candidate. Chairman of the Senate Telecommunications Subcommittee and regarded as the U.S. Senate’s savviest technologist, McCain is an inveterate devotee of email. His nightly ritual is to read his email together with his wife, Cindy. The injuries he incurred as a Vietnam POW make it painful for McCain to type. Instead, he dictates responses that his wife types on a laptop. “She’s a whiz on the keyboard, and I’m so laborious,” McCain admits

Nice one Obama. Question, for all those who complained that the Republicans treated Max Cleland poorly in the 2002 election…where’s your patriotism now? Does it support a candidate who attacks a war hero’s wounds?

Real class-who can doubt the mantra of CHANGE now?

this crap pisses me off more each day

You cut the New York Times interview short:

Q: Do you use a blackberry or email?

Mr. McCain: No

Mark Salter: He uses a BlackBerry, just ours.

Mr. McCain: I use the Blackberry, but I don’t e-mail, I’ve never felt the particular need to e-mail. I read e-mails all the time, but the communications that I have with my friends and staff are oral and done with my cell phone. I have the luxury of being in contact with them literally all the time. We now have a phone on the plane that is usable on the plane, so I just never really felt a need to do it. But I do – could I just say, really – I understand the impact of blogs on American politics today and political campaigns. I understand that. And I understand that something appears on one blog, can ricochet all around and get into the evening news, the front page of The New York Times. So, I do pay attention to the blogs. And I am not in any way unappreciative of the impact that they have on entire campaigns and world opinion.

As of two months ago, according to the man himself, he was more or less totally computer illiterate, and needed folks to show him things on the web or on their blackberries. This is not just a matter of needing someone to type for him, but of disengagement from the world of information technology. This component of the Obama ad might be silly (I haven’t seen the ad yet, so I can’t judge), but unless McCain himself is lying, the claim in the ad is completely accurate.http://tinyurl.com/57w6fw

Gasp! He was disengaged from the world of information technology! So says real doozy. To prove it real doozy offers up a broken link.

Operating the computer typepad does cause him pain, he has found other ways to still function in todays tech world, it obviously doesn’t affect his brain:

“Chairman of the Senate Telecommunications Subcommittee and regarded as the U.S. Senate’s savviest technologist”

Keep it up Real Doozy, every time you fools make such accusation it just raises McCain farther in the polls. It is amazing to see the Democrat Party implode this fast. Adn there has not even been a October surprise yet and you are throwing the campaign away on lies and mears of the highest order.

I am just waiting for Obama to throw Biden under the bus for Hillary or another woman and see then get clocked in a landslide.

Just keep it up, push the Reagan Democrats and sane Democrats farther away from Obama’s far Left lurch.

We do not even need to to run ads, just post videos of the Gaffefest that Obama and Biden seem to want. They are seeing who can have the most gaffes by the end of the campaign.

What will they come up with next? Senator McCain’s non-use of a computer / email is known. I’ve read the senator’s book and knew his injuries sustained prevent much normal activity.

I would rather have a President who – regardless of computer use, looked at real problems of national security, taxes, government spending, etc. Besides, he would be the President – and I would expect him to have a staff who could type out letters and send emails or memos when necessary.

Wonder what the next advertisement on the “real issues” will be for Obama?

I’m truly stunned at how many think a President must be computer savvy. Like he’s got time in the day of a POTUS to play on eBay??

The tasks are generally advisory meetings. Notes and speeches are generally delegated to staffers.

Just why does a President have to be proficient in MySpace and FaceBook?? And if this is so important, maybe it ought to be Steve Jobs and Bill Gates as the nominees….

Idiocy. Truly the dumbing down of America.

You know there are articles showing that McCain knows about the Internet, he just can’t reach his arms up far enough to type, he also can not tie his shoes or comb his own hair do to the injuries he sustained as POW this information has been available to the public since, 2000 so I want to know why mr obama went their. he was the president of the Harvard law review so you would think he would have researched this. So let’s see that’s picking on McCain and constant demeaning of Sarah palin and her family is awful. Someone actually put her youngest son on ebay saying he was a prop for 40 dollars.

Also I just found out they REALLY cut alot of Palins interview, to the point of where you might think you were living in soviet Russia or nazi germany. Don’t get me wrong people have always been biased, but htis all out attack/coddle foolishness in dealing with McCain and Palin/ Obama is getting on my last nerve. Now why the government can not control the press, press should not be able to hijack our government. this picking out the candidates for people is not good. And this shallow campaigning for obama i’ve seen all of the big three and CNN and MSNBC cross a line long time ago and ‘m about sick of it. I DONOT LIKE OR TURST BARACK OBAMA this election has been nothing short of fascist .

I’m starting to wonder if any Hillary plants are “helping” the Obama campaign. Or, could this have been a suggestion that came out of the WJ Clinton/Obama meeting. “Barry, I’ll tell you what you do.”

Anyone else notice that the ad whines about McCain having been in the Senate since 1984? Does B.O. know that his running mate has been there 12 years longer?

William! SHHH!!! We’re not supposed to question The One, remember? What he says is truth for only neonazicon Republicans can mislead, distort, and lie. I can’t believe you forgot!

btw, I love the vids of Biden in this thread

Hillary Clinton Replacing Joe Biden on DNC Ticket

This ad is well below Obummer’s pay grade.

i am thinking the obama camp isn’t computer savvy either, or they wouldn’t have done this add as it can be debunked. what idiots. i know of a great many people who don’t know the first thing about computers, hell i can’t copy and paste and my typing sucks. so i guess that means i am stupid and can’t read or understand what is written. guess i should just trust obama that he is the one and mccain is dumb. not freakin likelly. they keep sinking to new lows and you wonder how much lower they will go.

My bad, Scott! 🙂

Seriously, for Barry to claim the importance of being ‘Net savvy, why does the mybarackobama.com community pages have this at the top?

he was the president of the Harvard law review so you would think he would have researched this

Because they don’t care about doing research first. It is all about making McCain-Palin look bad no matter how much they have to distort the truth, no matter how much they have to lie and deceive. They have said in their own words that they will do ANYTHING to make sure McCain and Palin don’t make it to the White House.

When you have made it clear that you are willing to win at any and all cost no matter what the cost, you speak volumes that nothing is off limits. Not children, not disabilities, not anything, not even life itself.

I ♥ GOV’R PALIN
Is it all right for a R.I.N.O. to ♥ gov’r Palin?

Research doesn’t have much to do with lawyers’ preparation of a brief when it concerns politics. They simply assume that the MSM is going to completely swallow any swill they dole out as long as it reflects well on The Golden One & badly on American Hero McCain. The more genuine the candidate, the less respect the lawyers have for it.

Of course, Obama and Michelle learned this at the feet of Bernardine Dohrn, a “paralegal” at Kirkland & Ellis Law Firm in Chicago, whose leftish credentials are/were impeccable because of the Daley Machine’s flirtation with unions & the downstate insurgents trying to overthrow genuine candidates. The relentless sleuthing did remove a candidate named Ryan from Obama’s way. And the Repubs themselves were hardly less corrupt, as they got Peter Fitzgerald to remove himself from the ’04 race, which Obama won. Illinois politics is well-suited for a paper-thin resume upstart like The Anointed, and the Chicago Trib & Sun-Times have no journalistic cred on investigative fronts like BHO’s State Senate election race records, records on The Annenberg Project Obama & Ayers collaborated on, records of Obama’s legal work and political support for Rezko, the shady Syrian with unknown sources of money. Chicago is corrupt to the core, but the MSM should actually have done more than a cursory look-see on a superficial level.

It’s clearly obvious that the MSM has an agenda, and the American people are beginnnig to sense that [in the background, a rube named “Alaska Pete” is ridiculing The Palin family for Bristol’s child and Wasilla as “the meth capital of Alaska,” while “Pete” brays about unfair media elites.

Tina Fey does a very passable Sarah, even getting the accent almost perfectly & appearing absolutely unphased as Amy Poehler’s Hillary implodes, explodes, and generally goes bi-polar in both directions at the same time.

To Obama the word change is just a campaign slogan, whereas McCain and Palin have actually brought about substantive changes in government. Changes which have helped Americans, while Obama has spent his career just talking about it. Obama has spent most of his time in public office absent from his responsibilities, while ambitiously running for the next rung in the ladder, not to serve the people, but rather to further his own position. And, I’m sure most people could relate to McCain and Palin as fellow Americans, more than they can to the Obamas, who chose to spend TWENTY YEARS in the radical
anti-American racist church of Jeremiah Wright … and chose unsavory associates, such as Farrakhan, Pfleger, Rezko, Ayers, etc.. As for Obama’s phony indignation about being a community organizer … Palin never criticized those efforts, she merely, and rightfully questioned it as being the sole experience and credentials for someone to use as qualifications to become President of the United States … and, even then, it was in response to Obama’s attacks at Palin for being the mayor of a small town, when he also neglected to mention that she was Governor as well.

it’s a republican lie.

If he can use a blackberry, he can type an email. In fact, he can type an email on his blackberry. If he is the most tech savvy (which I doubt) and head of the senate’s telecom committee, why is the USA so far behind most of Europe and Asia technologically? They are on 4G wireless networks. Half of this country’s 3G networks weren’t even deployed as of last year (Thank you Michael Powell and George Bush for pushing technology- note sarcasm.

One of his fellow POWs was interviewed this morning, he said John McCain has arthritis in his hands and it affects his small motor skills. I can understand what he’s going through because I also have arthritis in my fingers. If I was as busy as John McCain, I wouldn’t bother with typing out e-mail either.

It’s not that he doesn’t know how to send it, it’s just painful for him to type, there are days that I can’t type at all, sometimes I can’t turn doorknobs, tie my shoes and I don’t do buttons anymore. I’m thinking it’s the same for him. So, look for the elderly to understand his disability, you know, that large block of dedicated voters.

Anyway, it was a stupid ad, Huffpo is a stupid site and this is a stupid issue. He has staff to handle it, anyway.

Insatiable,

I’d like to know if Obie can fly a plane.

That’s an important issue.

I’d never vote for a person who couldn’t fly a plane.

Can you help me?

fyi, Sarah Palin’s husband can, and we all know that if John McCain orders airstrikes on some nation….he’ll understand the meaning of that order like few others can-having flown air strikes before, AND been on the ground during them.

The point is a good one though-to suggest that the man’s not up to speed on technology is foolish.

Insatiable, why not go visit the Clinton Library and spend some time perusing Clinton’s emails… won’t take you long. It’s only two that he sent personally in his term. Then again, only one really counts because the other was a test to see if he could hit the “send” button….

If this is your criteria for a POTUS – who hasn’t got time in his day to play on MySpace and eBay – you are a perfect example that the dumbing down of American is a rousing success.

This ad is minor compared to the LIES and half truths the McCain campaign has out….

check out the McCain Lies here:

That’s funny Sky.

You posted a clip featuring Rachel Maddox, Andrea Mitchell, John Stewart, and T. Boone Pickens.

All of these people are either:

a) Known political hacks covertly and/or overtly supporting Obama, or

b) Comedians, or

c) People with deep monetary connections to the Dim party, or

d) People who will benefit monetarily if Congress pursues the plans presented.

Some fall into more than one category.

The most entertaining part is that you posted it with a straight face thinking that no one would notice.

As a supposed veteran of this country you sure do brush off Obama’s insults toward McCain’s war wounds with a very cavalier attitude.

Let me be the first to tell you today that you’re as full of shit as your source material.

How can anyone in their right mind vote for Obama. He is just disgusting. He has done nothing but smear, lie, and attack. Not very presidential in my book. Obama would destroy this country.

Sorry RAP. Your link proves the point that the left is smearing McCain/Palin w half truths, smears, and misquotes etc. Trying to defend a smear by showing more isn’t a sound point. It’s hyperbole to the first.

It is an ad that speaks directly to the younger voters who are incredibly tech savvy and that technology has changed how election are run. Look how quickly news travels around the internet and how ads and gaffs are immediately available on YouTube. Or how it is now a prerequisite that candidates have Facebook pages and groups.

While there are large groups of Americans who don’t use or understand computers, it does not mean that it is okay for the President to be one of them. My concern would be that if learning about new technology isn’t a priority to the potential commander in chief, would it continue to a priority in educating our children?

All young people entering the work force need to be able to use a computer, to put together documents, to research, to write an invoice for work completed, etc. Technology is a key piece of the puzzle that allows for our young people to be able to compete globally. If McCain doesn’t want to learn how to email, he should still stress the importance of it for everyone else.

Furthermore, check these clash videos I found yesterday about the US Presidential candidates have talked taxes. Well, it’s entitled Obama v. McCain on Taxes. Watch these statements – then vote in http://clashorama.com/index.php?id=194

Your an idiot, only a small portion of that ad was about how he couldn’t use the email, and it ties into the message that McCain is out of touch, not about any of his injuries, but let’s talk about some potential injuries that could have a major impact on his ability to run the United States. Anyone ever hear of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, paranoid reactions, thoughts of suicide, oh and the BIG one, OCCUPATIONAL INCAPACITATION. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want even the slightest possibility of our next President to have a paranoid reaction with his finger on the button. Also in his own book, Faith of my Fathers, he admitted to attempting suicide, so the chances he suffers from PTSD are looking pretty good. Do your research, and stop taking things out of context so you can make yourself sound smarter than you really are. http://www.erikacotter.blogspot.com

@Erika:

It would be nice if you knew what you were talking about.

For those that are so eager to find excuses for a domestic terrorist because it was years ago and besides Obama was only eight, now they come trotting out something that happened 40+ years ago. So after being severely torchured and beaten, he gave up information and that is why he considered suicide. Has nothing to do with PTSD, nothing. His finger would be better on the button than someone that is comfortable with both foreign and domestic terrorists. Don’t think Bill and Bernadine are the only terrorists he’s palled around with.

Ask yourself, you think Ayres or Dorhn ever contemplated suicide after their Weathermen caused the deaths of people? No, they don’t think they did enough, Obama’s pals.

As for the computer issue. McCain *does* know how to work computers. He’s quite sharp on how they function, he just doesn’t personally use them frequently because of his injuries.
