I've tried to explain this here and to my friends and family who don't live in Alaska. Basically, the trooper (Whooten) is/was a terrible trooper, husband, father etc. All of this came about BEFORE Sarah was elected to governor. Of course her family was concerned, and she and her husband worried about the situation. They even hired a private investigator when their reports fell on deaf ears. The trooper was suspended. Probably more could have been done. When you think about it - how much do you have to mess up before being fired? Read the suspension letter for yourself. Here is the link:

http://media.adn.com/smedia/2008/07/21/16/Wooten_suspend_letter.source.prod_affiliate.7.pdf

The Commissioner (Monegan) did not take another position that the Governor felt he was more suited for. So, he was fired. Monegan himself has said, no one in the Palin family "told" him to fire the trooper - he just felt "pressure." And, besides, Monegan works for the Governor. The Governor may hire or fire these Commissioners at his/her discretion. If the Governor wants to move you - he/she can. Afterall, the Governor is the boss here. I am a working woman and can understand this. What's the problem? This is really a non-issue.

The Legislature and the Troopergate investigation. This is where you really have to research and go beyond the media. The whole situation started because of a blog of one of the people Sarah beat for governor (Halcro). His blog is designed to release negative "information" on the governor (basically destroy her). I think it is just a bunch of sour grapes. But that is my own take on it. So, with blog info in hand, the legislature - full of righteous zeal decided to waste $100,000 (we do have a surplus) and have a special investigation of the governor. The person in charge (French) of the investigation (originally to come out like four days before the election, but now it is like 3 weeks), has said publicly, that this would "embarrass" the governor and used the word "impeachment" in the Anchorage Daily News. No bias - right? A senate member from North Pole (don't remember his name) has asked him (French) to remove himself. No action there - of course, Democrats are always fair and balanced.

The whole situation is BS. The governor was within her right. Even in Alaska - we still have politicians who are partisan and go out of their way to fight true reformers. Sarah has made enemies. She has fought corruption and people see her as a real threat. She literally "came out of no where" and won the election for Governor against a really popular Tony Knowles, a former Democrat governor. She had also just beat in the Republican primary a terrible governor, who was part of the "good ole boys network." She won convincingly. Alaskan were sick and tired of corruption. She has been a great governor - we are one of those 80% who think the world of her. Do we always agree with her? Of course not. (And, No we don't know her. I've seen her once (personally) at a gym in our local town in May two years ago for a celebration of our heritage. She is very personable and friendly) Just look beyond the MSM and the negativity and realize she is the real deal. A true fighter of corruption. She uses common sense and really is an advocate for her fellow Alaskans. Sarah Palin will make, if elected, an awesome VP! McCain / Palin!

There are a couple of new developments.

The person in charge of the investigation, Hollis French, has been exposed as a partisan Democrat Obama supporter who has leaked information damaging to Governor Palin, prejudging an investigation that has hardly even begun by saying the final report would be "damaging to Palin." http://www.notwrightforamerica.com has been hammering French all week and has the details that you won't get from the liberal media, and Newsweek (www.newsweek.com/id/157439) is reporting that McCain is now calling for French to step down.

Thanks for the latest AP update, Baka. Being a single income household, I multitask blogging/news with making a living. So I always appreciate the heads up from everyone on the latest/greatest.

Since the Yahoo News links tend to disappear into the cyber black hole of oblivious, here's the MSNBC link to the AP story by Steve Quinn Baka so graciously provided.

Now, just some added thoughts of my own on this. Because, as I noted, French was determined to put *his* investigation* over the Board's. Therefore, he was forced to counter Palin's legal moves by convening the Judicial Committee and issuing supoenas. Mind you, this AP article only confirms what French promised what he would do. There is no confirmation that the committee has convened, and the supoenas have been issued. That's another "smear" headline waiting to happen.

So my opinion? This is a set up. Period. What French is promising is nothing different than what he promised days ago. Paraphrased... "we're gonna issue those supoenas so we can get this out of the way before before election release date."

uh huh

He already knows... NOW... that neither Bailey nor Palin is inclined to indulge in *his* witch hunt investigation when they have a more neutral and the more legal path thru the Personnel Board via Alaska law.

The set up? Watch the next headlines. They're going to portray both Palin and Baily as uncooperative, and ignore the Board's investigation. I could be wrong, but mark my words. This is their goal. If they can't get them on facts, they'll try to destroy them on technicalities, sans facts.

In other words, if they have nothing, they will portray ithis as a Palin cover up as long as possible in order to destroy the McCain-Palin ticket nationally. And they are also vested in smearing Palin locally, in the event Obama wins.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080905/ap_on_el_pr/cvn_palin_troopergate

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Legislature will work to complete its ethics investigation into Gov. Sarah Palin's firing of her public safety commissioner earlier than expected, weeks before the national election.

State Sen. Hollis French says seven witnesses told the Legislature's investigator they will not provide depositions and canceled their meetings. French, who is overseeing the investigation into whether Palin abused her power, said the Legislature will subpoena witnesses.

Lawmakers say they have put the investigation on a fast track now that Palin is Republican John McCain's running mate. The investigation previously was expected to end on Oct. 31. French says the probe will be completed three weeks earlier than that.

In July, a state oversight committee approved $100,000 for an investigation into whether Paylin fired public safety commissioner Walt Monegan because he would not dismiss a trooper who went through a messy divorce with her sister before Palin ran for governor.

-------------

Hat tip this to Ed and AP over at HotAir for keeping it on their rolling headline list. Needless to say, French was not in good shape and I think he got his butt pwned for his comments.

Baka... I don't see how the legislative independent investigation will be released 3 weeks early. Especially since neither Palin nor Bailey will be providing interviews for French's investigation, but they will for the Board. The process will be delayed if French carries thru with his promise to supoena both by convening the Judiciary Committee.

The ABC article I linked above stated it was scheduled for release Oct 31.

The Alaska state senator running an investigation of Gov. Palin says the McCain campaign is using stall tactics to prevent him from releasing his final report by Oct. 31, four days before the November election.

"It's likely to be damaging to the Governor's administration," said Senator Hollis French, a Democrat, appointed the project manager for a bi-partisan State Senate Legislative Counsel Committee investigation of claims that Palin abused her office to get the Alaska public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan, fired.

That article is dated Sept 2nd. Do you have a link to a more recent article stating otherwise?

But I will agree that results the Board determining if there is probable cause for an investigation will be received much earlier than the legislative investigation.

Not quite. Especially when the troopergate findings will be released 3 weeks earlier than the original date.

ABC News reports it.

You only WISH it would sink her. Which it won't. Ask Tom Brokaw. He states it's only a "speed bump". Which means he knows something.

Geez, the lib asses around here are easy pickins.

Great Gamesmanship by Palin.

Just hope her staff didn't leak Medical records.

As a Sitting governor who's popular, she'll be fine, as an unknown VP candidate. it's a problem that could sink her.

I'm well aware Palin has some democrat in her actions... i.e. raising taxes on the oil companies and cutting fuel taxes for the consumer. "Windfall"? That's a nanny socialist word, Fit. A word designed by those who are setting themselves up as the end authority on what exactly is too much profit. That, son, is damned un-American.

I find it amazing you all are in such an uproar. She is truly a "maverick" in governance... a little conservative and a little democrat... and that's why he picked her.

fit fit, why do you even post? The spending in Wasilla? 20 million in debt? Laughable at best! The highway project next to my house is 18 million per lane per mile stretch of highway. Apparently the people like her; an approval rating of 80% is pretty impressive. Even the low points of 64%, is almost incomparable with anyone else. Lefties have nothing better to do than gossip, smear, and hate. It must be a lonely existence. If it were up to them, morality would be an after thought, and they would eventually destroy each other.
