We didn’t create the ‘Awakening’ (and we can’t RE-create it in Afghanistan). As Biddle stated, ‘we were lucky’. Now if we can only be honest with ourselves about this reality before we redeploy everyone from Anbar to Afghanistan, with another ’surge’.
