It was an ugly option Dan, but it was the lesser of all the other evils.

Lebanon's been in INFINITELY worse condition without the invasion of Iraq, and OIF really wasn't the primary catalyst for that situation.

Hamas in power-again, to even remotely suggest that if the US hadn't invaded Iraq Hamas never would have taken power is to completely ignore the problems with the 1994 Arab Israeli agreement, why it failed (cause Hamas was the one that really had the power in the Palestinian territories at the time, and they want more than just a state).

Russia's been re-asserting itself since BEFORE OIF. CNN is ripe with articles about Russia sending their Mid East guy, Primikov, to Iraq with 2 generals. They flew in in cargo planes, the generals got awards from Saddam, and when asked why, "Well, we certainly didn't come here to drink tea." was their answer. Then Primakov and his boys drove at least 4 convoys of cargo trucks packed with "diplomatic pouches" into Syria. Hell, I've even got the JSTARs radar image of the exodus as well as links to CNN reports of how the US special forces ambushed them and almost got the goods they were smuggling out. Noooooo, Russia has been reasserting itself fast and furious since before OIF. Did they invade anyone? Yeah. They invaded Georgia, S Ossetia, Azerbaijan, Azkazastan, and a list of others before GWB even took office. They signed contracts to build nuclear bomb factories in Iran before Bush even took office. The list goes on. Russia's power grab isn't new, it's just that the veiled idea of politicizing it and spinning it as somehow a result of OIF (and not recognition of Kosovo which is the real cause) is what's new. Hey, some people just prefer to believe anything a Democrat tells em as if it's real, and when asked what spin comes from the left...there's zero examples of silence. That silence is why these international turmoils seem new.

Oh, and as for the Taliban being far from defeated.....hehehe, well, I personally had a conference call w the Deputy commander of Centcom this week, and your perception of the Taliban as some sort of regular force is the real problem. Read up on the call here:

Then see if you can explain what the difference is between a "military success" and an IO "insurgency operation" success, or what General Holmes meant when he said that, "The enemy moves at the speed of the internet."

Dan, it's great to question authority-especially what comes from the Bush Admin and RNC, but do you question the hype from the Democrats? From their candidates? How about the thoughtspeak that brews from Big Brother....and I'm not talking about govt as big brother. If those guys distort, market, exaggerate, spin, or mislead....do you question them at all? How have they misled you into thinking the world was chocolate rivers, gumdrop trees, cotton candy clouds, caviar dreams, and champagne wishes until George "the most brilliant mastermind of corporate cabal conspiracy in history" supposedly stole the White House in 2000, stole the 2002 elections as well, then manipulated the 2004 elections all while choking on pretzels, crashing mountain bikes, and supposedly being too inept to invade Iraq w/out a plan?

Question authority means all authority-not just from the right.

Was the Iraq adventure the most effective approach to dealing with aftermath of 9/11?

The money and the shattered lives?

Granted, responding to 9/11 was not going to be a free ride in any respect however look at the results of the administrations "democracy project"!
