And Speaker Pelosi can’t respond better than stammer out the same worn out talking points that have led to Americans paying $4 a gallon for gas!

GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS, HOST: You’ve been getting a lot of heat for not allowing a straight up or down vote expanding drilling off the coasts of the United States. Why won’t you permit a straight up or down vote?

PELOSI: Blah, blah, blah!

STEPHANOPOULOS: Except it’s not just Republicans that are calling for this. Members of your own caucus say we must have a vote. Congressman Jason Altmire, let me show our viewers right now, says, “There is going to be a vote. September 30 will not come and go without a vote on the opening the Outer Continental Shelf. The message has been delivered. The issue can’t be ignored any longer.” He says he speaks for a lot of Democrats. He’s talked to the leadership and a vote must happen.

PELOSI: Blah, blah, blah!

STEPHANOPOULOS: But if you feel you have the better arguments, why not give a straight up or down vote for drilling?

PELOSI: Blah, blah, blah!

STEPHANOPOULOS: Well, if you’re right, why not let it be debated out and have the vote?

PELOSI: Blah, blah, blah!

STEPHANOPOULOS: So what exactly are you trying to say? You say you might allow a vote as part of a comprehensive package, but you won’t allow a vote on –

PELOSI: Blah, blah, blah!

STEPHANOPOULOS: Yet you brought those measures to the floor in a way under the suspension of the rules so that it couldn’t be amended with a drilling proposal.

PELOSI: Blah, blah, blah!

STEPHANOPOULOS: But why not allow votes on all that? When you came in as Speaker you promised in your commitment book “A New Direction for America,” let me show our viewers, you said that “Bills should generally come to the floor under a procedure that allows open, full, fair debate consisting of full amendment process that grants the Minority the right to offer its alternatives.” If they want to offer a drilling proposal, why can’t they have a vote?

PELOSI: Blah, blah, blah!

STEPHANOPOULOS: I want to move on to other issues. Just to be clear, you are saying you will not allow a single up or down vote on drilling. But you will allow a vote on a package that includes drilling?

PELOSI: Blah, blah, blah!

STEPHANOPOULOS: So you’re not going to permit a vote, you may get beat, but you’re not going to permit a vote on your own?

PELOSI: Blah, blah, blah!

STEPHANOPOULOS: But that’s what I don’t understand. If you could get votes on everything else that you care about which you say there is strong bipartisan support, why not allow a vote on the drilling as well?

PELOSI: Blah, blah, blah!

If you want the unadulterated transcript, you’ll find it at Newsbusters.

House GOP to Continue Floor Protest Monday!

Our hard hitting never give up House GOP leadership will take to the empty House Chamber Monday morning to highlight once again how Democrats have left town on vacation while many Americans cannot afford the gas to do the same.

Michelle Malkin and Hot Air have the details. And thanks to Stuck on Stupid for posting the video.

It’s no use. She’ll never understand her own errors. I can’t wait for the chance to vote her and her like out.

We must all take a step back and realize that San Fran Nan is out to save the planet. She also must prevent her dear friend, Dirty Harry Reid from getting “sick” from oil.

The vast reserves that this nation possesses will go untapped as long as the Democrats are in control of the majority. In the meantime, we send billions of dollars to foreign countries yearly while our own energy independence is shackled by a party that would prefer $5.00 a gallon gas, and a broken economy.

It will be interesting to see how the media will find a way to protect their “investment” in liberal causes when over 70% of the nation believes it’s time to open up our own reserves.

Obama has (in the Clinton tradition of governing by polls) once again shifted his position on offshore drilling just enough to appease the “undecided’s” knowing full well that the environmental lobby will tie up the much needed exploration with lawsuits well into the next decade, (think spotted owl). Thiry years of obstruction by the left’s judicial fiat, (in the name of environmental protection), has finally hit the pocket books of all of us as global demand has left us defenseless. Pelosi, Reid, and the Democrat Party will be on the losing side of this issue. I just hope it take it’s toll in November.

I don’t think the democrats were ever going to allow a straight up and down vote on this one, it’s just too close to their liberal core. Still an interesting video — shows fairly poorly on her part.

I loved when he showed the 2006 rhetoric from Pelosi about how there will be votes on issues and amendments allowed on the floor, and then she tried to explain why she’s doing the exact opposite of what got her and her party elected to power 2 yrs ago.

The president is going to call her bluff and release some oil from the reserve, then what is she going to do.

Stating the same tired mantras again and again does not make them true.
For example in her strange world of inverted logic, the objective of “Reducing our dependance on foreign oil” is somehow meant to prove that we must not drill for our own oil! Doesn’t she understand that if we don’t produce our own oil, then we must buy it elsewhere! The only alternative is that she must think we don’t need oil and higher prices are the cost of teaching us a lesson.

She didn’t say she was opposed to drilling our own oil. She said she was opposed to drilling in protected sites..when there are unprotected ones with leases pending available. Further, that such drilling would not do anything to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, or lower prices at the pump, nor save the planet (her priorities). But, the between the lines on this is much the same as any democrat ……if such a drilling bill was brought to the floor for an up and down vote, it would pass. It would pass because people are stupid and gullible and must be protected from themselves by her—and the democrats. The ignorance of arrogance.

Stephanopoulos knows this is a big issue for the Dems — he’s trying to get them on the same page as the American people because this is going to kill them in November.

It’s amazing really — these guys would rather sink the ship than do something productive for a change. It’s like Rush always says, ‘they are sowing the seeds for their own landslide defeat.’

Greetings:

You know, we don’t hear much of that First Woman Speaker of the House anymore.

If Obama can get away with harping on the Bush-McCain linkage, I don’t know why McCain and the Republicans aren’t going after the Obama-Pelosi-Reid troika.

11B40: Good point. Especially since Bush is leaving office, but an unholy trinity of Obam-uhhh, Reid and Pelosi would actually govern.

Guess it’s all a ploy, election strategy. Nancy’s carrying the weight, absorbing all the heat. Wonder what she will do if Iran shuts down the Straight?

Missy: There will be a vote on drilling. The congressional moratorium on ALL offshore sites expires Sept. 30 and requires a vote to be extended in any form.

Two ways this could shake out:

1. Pelosi and Reid shove the moratorium into a continuing resolution required to keep the government open (because they haven’t done their jobs and passed appropiration bills) then dare Bush to veto it and blame him for shutting down the government

or

2. Craft a compromise bill that includes SOME drilling, but refuses to allow votes on ANWR, California and Northeast offshore and Colorado shale.

With the attention the “gang of 10″ proposal is getting, option #2 is more likely. Sadly, it will leave 10’s of billions of barrels of oil off limits.

People should ask why it is O.K. to drill off the Florida beaches but not in the frozen wasteland of ANWR?
