Obama Running From Another Debate

Loading

The man who wants to be the leader of the free world is backing down…again…from standing in front of a crowd with McCain and answering questions.

Cough…coward….cough

A coalition of military groups is planning a nationally televised town-hall-style meeting with the presidential candidates near Fort Hood, Tex., the largest active-duty military installation in the country. But so far, only Senator John McCain of Arizona, the presumptive Republican nominee, has agreed to attend.

CBS has agreed to broadcast the meeting live from 9 to 11 p.m. Eastern time on Monday, Aug. 11. The candidates would face questions directly from an audience of 6,000 people, made up of veterans, service members and military families from the base.

Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, the presumptive Democratic nominee, has not agreed to participate.

“Senator Obama strongly supports America’s veterans and military families and has worked hard on their behalf in the Senate,” said Phillip Carter, director of Mr. Obama’s veterans effort and an Iraq war veteran. “While we unfortunately had a previously scheduled commitment on the date proposed, Senator Obama looks forward to continuing the dialogue he’s been having throughout the country with veterans on how we can better serve our men and women in uniform as they serve us.”

Carissa Picard, managing director of the Fort Hood Presidential Town Hall Consortium, said she had suggested Aug. 11 and asked the campaign to suggest other dates if that was not convenient, but after several conversations she had not been able to work anything out.

“I’m having extreme difficulty getting the Obama campaign to commit to this event, and we do not understand why,” said Ms. Picard, whose husband is deployed in Iraq. “We made it very clear to them that if they would commit to the event, we would work with them on dates.”

They went so far as to tell the man to pick his own date and he still backs down. But wasn’t this the same guy who said he would debate McCain anytime, anywhere?

“If John McCain wants to meet me anywhere, anytime to have a debate about, he, uhh, our respective policies in Iraq, in Iran, the Middle East or around the world, that is a conversation I’m happy to have…”

Sigh…..this is his sort of change I suppose. Duck and run from debates unless of course he is guaranteed a script and a fawning media to drool over him and his greatness. Or maybe a huge stadium where 70,000 fans can be packed in to give him moral support so he isn’t so scared.

Now, do you think Hillary would be ducking these debates?

Awesome choice you guys made Dem’s! Just stellar.

SO, he’ll talk to Ahmadinejad, but not to Senator John McCain?

Oh O….this is sad.

You mean they want the Messiah to think on his own and respond to actual questions like, like, like off the cuff??? How racist!!!

By irony, Ms. Carissa Picard is also affiliated with “Military Spouses for Change,” which is neither pro-Bush, pro-Republican, nor particularly pro-war.

So once again, Team Obama has failed to do its homework and is most likely operating from stereotypes of the military left over, in several meanings of the term, from the generation of 1968: Obama, too, would certainly get a respectful reception, and he and his campaign are blowing an opportunity. (Not that I mind, you understand.)

Unless Team Obama get a clue, I would expect this to morph swiftly into demands from our “progressives” that the Town Hall be canceled, and charges that McCain is attempting to secure the personal loyalty of the military. That also will blow back against Obama.

The reason that Obama won’t debate McCain is simple: Take away his teleprompter, make him think fast on his feet, and Barack Obama quickly degenerates into a stammering idiot. He and his handlers know full well that McCain would eat his lunch in a non-scripted “town hall” debate setting.

Barack Obama: empty fluff

John McCain: strength & substance

You decide.

They should just go ahead with the town meeting including airing it on CBS. Politicans are attracted to publicity and he will flip flop back into doing the debate. If they don’t show, they should put up a cardboard cut out of him and TV friendly posters saying Obama refused to debate McCain at any place and at any time.

obama is a wuss. he can’t debate anything with his wife and kids let alone an actual adult. the left must be a tab bit scared to be pulling this stuff so early in the campaign.

Ditto to what the Dittman said. And make sure to leave an empty chair on the stage where the empty suit would have been sitting.

Obama doesn’t give a rat’s ass about veterans or the military.

This is not even a debate tho, it’s a small faction’s Q and A. I don’t see what the fuss is about.

What is silly is that they will both do actual debates closer to the election making this faux indignation mute.

ash,

Trenchant comment. But sometimes faux indignation is all you’ve got when not only the rest of the country is not particularly excited about your candidate, even you aren’t. Let’s all stop talking smack and wait for the game.

He’s not going to debate McCain. He will put it off pleading prior committments until the election. The media will cover for him and suppress all this. The public will never realize this guy is incompetent. They hear his reading from a teleprompter and think he is super smart when the truth is he is nothing without a speechwriter and a teleprompter. Without them he is lost as has been shown in his ad libs. A debate would show that is is a know-nothing so he won’t risk it. This guy is a joke the way he changes his mind from day to day about not just one issue but all of them.

Run Obama run! just remember there aren’t too many hiding places left for you. Prior commitments my rear end, your a phony and an empty suit, whose strings are being pulled by the usual bunch of Socialist and out right America haters. there is no difference between Obama and Kerry, or Gore.

Is anybody honestly suggesting there won’t be Presidential debates? If not, then all you’re doing is blowing hot air and having an ODS party. Wait for the debates.

Can you believe anything that Obama has said. He said he would meet McCain any time anywhere. But balks. He said he was for total wihdrawal of troops, then said no he wasn’t.

The Dems picked a real winner there. Geez and I thought McCain is in trouble. Everyone is getting off of Obama’s bus, or thrown under the bus

Wasn’t it Barack Obama who said that he would debate McCain “anytime,” and “anywhere?” Perhaps this was “inartful” of him to say [Note: There is no such word as ‘inartful’ in any American English dictionary.] Or, perhaps Obama will soon “refine” his comments to include the fact that what he meant was that he, Obama, would pick the dates and the times.

No wonder Hillary Clinton is waiting on the wing. Obama’s actions over the last several months have set a new standard for “weak.” Truth is, Obama knows the military does not like him; no secret here — no love lost. But worse, the debate could focus on the Iraq withdrawal without a win for the U.S., or military cuts after a withdrawal — with most of the military watching. Scary version: Obama might be asked about his position and record on third-trimester abortions, or any of several of his extreme, left-wing positions.

Barack Obama is already suffering from retrograde donations and reduced campaign contributions. Many of his “progressive” followers are rejecting Obama’s “swing” toward conservatives by putting their contributions into a special fund and threatening to withhold said funds if Mr. Obama does not walk himself back to the “wild side” — the radical extremists’ cave.

If enough people see Obama stammering without que cards on a national debate — watch out! He may implode in real time. Obama is already suffering from negative acceleration in many nationwide polls.

It must be remembered at all times: Whereas Obama is a naive, simpleton beginner; John McCain is the experience, respected, and honorable candidate.
