Another Obama Lie!

Obama Backtracks
Brit Hume’s Political Grapevine
June 24, 2008

Barack Obama says he backtracked on a pledge to take public financing for the general election partly because he needs funds to counter those 527 committees that may attack him from the right. And he argues John McCain will do nothing to “stop the smears.”

But Cybercast News Service reports that Democratic 527s have raised three times as much as their Republican counterparts: $87 million to $24 million.

The director of the nonpartisan Campaign Finance Institute says that Obama “wasn’t complaining when he went to the American Federation of State and Municipal Employees Union this week, which ran an ad paid for by its 527 to attack John McCain.”

As one Obamaton apologist said “so what?” Who cares if Obama lied in his pledge to accept public financing? Who cares if he lied in justifying his actions by pointing to GOP oriented 527s?

Who cares if Obama is a liar who will do or say anything to gain power?

Hey, as long as the guy tells me what I want to hear, backs up his claims with promises, and continues to blame GWB, neocons, and Republicans for all that is evil in the world….well, he’s got my vote for sure. I just need sizzle. Steak is moot.

Obama has complained about Democratic 527’s. He convinced MoveOn, probaly the largest of these groups for either party, to close down their 527 (although they remain a PAC).

There are plenty of Republican 527’s still in existence, don’t try to pretend they are going to sit this one out.

Right… From MSNBC’s First Read

*** UPDATE *** A Democratic source tells First Read that this has less to do with anything Obama has said and more to do with MoveOn wanting to flex its muscle at Republicans. MoveOn hasn’t used its 527 since 2004, and has instead used its PAC to raise money. MoveOn will still be as active as ever, but this move is almost a dare to Republicans. If they don’t use 527s, the source said, they have nothing that can match MoveOn.

Let’s see, Fit Fit. You come to a fork in the road. Both routes lead to the same level of Dante’s Inferno, but one gets there with less toll booths. Which road do you take?

MoveOn decided to take the route with less toll booths…. I’m impressed with their “moral” decision… NOT.

Don’t expect me to defend MoveOn, because I won’t.

Your point was that Obama had pointed to nonexistant Republican 527’s (which do exist) while not decrying Democratic 527’s (which he has).

So…. when Obama spoke to the American Federation of State and Municipal Employees Union this week, which ran an ad paid for by its 527 to attack John McCain and did nothing you call that what?

I CARE. This man is a dishonest person, from taking credit for a bill on extending troops health care that by the way he didn’t even vote on, to not being honest as to where he is getting a lot of his campaign backing. GO TO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSemkPChvHo and see for your self. MU’AMMAR QADHAFI tells it all.

People here don’t seem to mind when Obama lies to them by saying he rejects public funding because of Republican 527s, or that Republicans will use racist attacks on him. No Republican I have heard has ever said or implied that his race makes him unqualified (the Clinton campaign did that), and Left-leaning 527s have raised three times as much money as right-leaning ones.

Obama has been in the public eye for very little time, for a presidential candidate, so much of his support must necessarily derive from the faith of his supporters, rather than a track record. They have faith that he will do what he says, “change you can believe in”, and so on.

But so far, Obama has shown himself to be a liar. He lied when he said he did not know how radical Rev. Wright could be (even though Obama brought a complete collection of Wright sermons on tape and studied them at Harvard). He lied about campaign financing – McCain probably would have handled his fundraising differently had he known Obama would break his pledge.

And he lied about his reasons for refusing federal funds – he has a HUGE advantage, and did not want to give that up – that’s the real reason.

So my question to Obama supporters is this: Are you sure your faith is well placed, considering the track history Obama is developing? If your concern is that you really want to vote for a Democrat, you can always vote for McCain. He is in fact a Democrat of the Roosevelt-Truman-Kennedy model. There is no real Republican in the 2008 Presidential Election.

Fit fit, Every time a right-leaning 527, or even parts of the republican party (such as North Carolina) got nasty on Obama or Clinton, McCain denounced it.

That baby ad of Move-on.org… was extremely misleading on several levels, and there have been other leftist attacks on McCain’s age, his reputation (one claimed that he never was a POW but hid out in luxury) and so on. Has Obama denounced any of these attacks? I can’t recall any such denuciations.

And let’s not forget that Leftist 527s outweigh right-leaning ones by nearly 4 to 1, money wise, and are far more unified. Obama has a MASSIVE advantage this year, unlike any ever seen in the past century.

Dreadnought: Good question about whether the faith of Obama’s supporters is misplaced. Something tells me that they don’t care.

Tillerylakelady, that Memri tape was a good find… here’s an excerpt of the transcript:

Following are excerpts from a public address by Libyan Leader Mu’ammar Al-Qaddafi marking the anniversary of the U.S. air raid on Libya. The address aired on Al-Jazeera TV on June 11, 2008:

“There are elections in America now. Along came a black citizen of Kenyan African origins, a Muslim, who had studied in an Islamic school in Indonesia. His name is Obama.
“All the people in the Arab and Islamic world and in Africa applauded this man. They welcomed him and prayed for him and for his success, and they may have even been involved in legitimate contribution campaigns to enable him to win the American presidency.”

“Our African Kenyan Brother [Obama]… Made Statements [About Jerusalem] That Shocked All His Supporters In The Arab World, In Africa, And In The Islamic World”

“But we were taken by surprise when our African Kenyan brother [Obama], who is an American national, made statements that shocked all his supporters in the Arab world, in Africa, and in the Islamic world.

“We hope that this is merely an elections ‘clearance sale,’ as they say in Egypt – in other words, merely an elections lie. As you know, this is the farce of elections – a person lies and lies to people, just so that they will vote for him, and afterwards, when they say to him, ‘You promised this and that,’ he says: ‘No, this was just elections propaganda.’ This is the farce of democracy for you. He says: ‘This was propaganda, and you thought I was being serious. I was fooling you to get your votes.’
“Allah willing, it will turn out that this was merely elections propaganda. Obama said he would turn Jerusalem into the eternal capital of the Israelis. This indicates that our brother Obama is ignorant of international politics, and is not familiar with the Middle East conflict.” [...]

I’m not surprised that George Soros isn’t spending a lot of money on 527s at this point.
He ponied up most of the money funding left leaning 527s in 2004 (which had over 80% of all 527 funding), and didn’t get squat for his money.

The only 527 that people remember, and had a serious effect in 2004, was the grassroots Swiftboat Veterans for Truth organization.
