Special Photo Report: President Bush’s Effort to foster petroleum alternatives!

With Obama’s latest utterings taking up the headline portion of the daily news, readers may have overlooked President Bush’s efforts to encourage Congress to open vast federal lands and offshore sites to oil exploration and recovery.

In his radio address on Saturday (full text here), The President reiterated the four main points he discussed on Wednesday:

  1. Again, he asked Congress to lift the ban on offshore drilling. ” Experts believe that the OCS could produce enough oil to match America’s current production for almost ten years.”
  2. Congress should remove the ban on leasing federal lands for oil shale production. “One major deposit in the Rocky Mountain West alone would equal current annual oil imports for more than a hundred years. Unfortunately, Democrats in Congress are standing in the way of further development.”
  3. Drill in ANWR. “Scientists have developed innovative techniques to reach this oil with virtually no impact on the land or local wildlife. With a drilling footprint that covers just a tiny fraction of this vast terrain, America could produce an estimated 10 billion barrels of oil. That is roughly the equivalent of two decades of imported oil from Saudi Arabia. “
  4. Expand refining capacity. “Lawsuits and red tape have made it extremely costly to expand or modify existing refineries. The result is that America now imports millions of barrels of fully refined gasoline from abroad. This imposes needless costs on American families and drivers. It deprives American workers of good jobs. “

For years, congressional opposition has prevented the safe, economical recovery of U.S. petroleum resources that might have prevented this current crisis. Only Congress can fix the problem by acting NOW before the situation gets far worse.

Special Photo Report: President Bush Highlights Energy Alternatives!

President Bush didn’t wait until gas prices hit $4 a gallon to act on the problem of energy. For years he has been highlighting petroleum alternatives and new technology that America needs to develop for our energy needs in the 21st Century.

The following is just a small sampling of his activity on this issue:

President George W. Bush tours the Virginia Biodiesel Refinery in West Point, Va., Monday, May 16, 2005.

Standing with him from left, are: Rick Wagoner, Chairman and CEO, General Motors Corporation; Alan Mulally, President and CEO, Ford Motor Company; Tom LaSorda, President and CEO, DaimlerChrysler Corporation, and Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters.

President George W. Bush delivers his remarks on energy initiatives following his tour of the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant in Athens, Ala., Thursday, June 21, 2007. Speaking about the energy needs of the nation President Bush said, “Nuclear power is America’s third leading source of electricity. It provides nearly 20 percent of our country’s electricity. Nuclear power is clean. It’s clean, domestic energy.”

President George W. Bush is shown alternative fuel development technology Tuesday, July 10, 2007, during his visit to GrafTech International, Ltd. in Parma, Ohio. GrafTech is developing new fuel cell components from natural graphite to increase efficiency and reliability.

More Information

There is a great deal of substance that accompanies these photo-ops and demonstrations. The White House has several key documents and presidential speeches with the details of an energy plan for America’s future.

The time to act is NOW! Further delay means nothing but needless financial strain on every American family!

President Bush has been in favor of offshore drilling since March 2001, perhaps earlier.

The push for drilling off of the FL coast was scaled back in mid 2001 due to opposition from FL residents.

An effort to open ANWR was rebuffed by Congress in 2003 so the Bush Administration pushed for drilling in the Beaufort Sea.

California sued to prevent offshore drilling in 2003 so the Administration dropped that effort as well.

Sounds like President Bush has been consistent, perhaps even visionary, in his position but has encountered opposing forces at every turn.

Now that pump prices have reached, and remained, at $4.00 per gallon, the People have had enough. The groundswell of grass roots support for opening up additional supply is what has changed.

All the “green” zero emission is such BS…
unless the vehicle is made from plants that were planted and harvested with no mechanical means… and then produced by hand….
Anything and everything made in the world by mass production uses fossil fuels…
Even things made by people who eat food that was mass produced uses fossil fuels…

That bus probably used more resources in production because it was one of a kind or a few of a kind than a mass produced item.

Drill now, dig now (coal), and build now (nuclear)…

Put the refineries on abandoned military installations….

CO 2 does not make global warming,,, anymore than refrigerants caused the hole in the ozone layer…

Look it up..

This is the energy plan submitted by President Bush to congress in 2001. Remember the loser called Dead end Daschele who held it to prevent it ever going on the floor. How a loser like that got the power to do stupid things like that in beyond a democracy, but congress has set that system up and it is still in use today. The 2001 plan included 90% of what he is saying today (less new tech developed in recent years). Of course the millions suffering from BDS or Hussein O envy (head up his butt) will chose not to remember it.

Right you are Scrapiron.

Here’s a bit of a speech President Bush delivered in October 2001:

Oh, I understand energy prices are low right now, thank goodness. But that shouldn’t lead our nation to complacency. We need to be more self-reliant and self-sufficient. It is in our nation’s national interest that we develop more energy supplies at home. It is in our national interest that we look at safe nuclear power. It is in our national interest that we conserve more. It is in our national interest that we modernize the energy infrastructure of America. It’s in our national interest to get a bill to my desk, and I urge the Senate to do so.

Here are the legislative elements of the President’s proposal, put out in June 2001:

Had Congress responded more fully to President Bush’s proposals 7 years ago we might be enjoying that ANWR oil and other sources RIGHT NOW!

Isn’t it odd that the Democrats always phrase things as dark, foreboding and dangerous, scare people, rankle the masses, just like Saul Alinsky told them to do to obtain power. While Republicans see their RESPONSIBILTY to aid the American way of life. contribute to making society work for the peole. Freedom, liberty and the American way are the future, not Democrat Marxism. Command and control economies are for distributing misery equally, they are proved disasters — Eventually, all turn to the bayonet to operate. What are we going to do when the landfills fill with mercury? Blame Bush?

Classic good vs Evil.

I wonder how the Democrats intend to dispose of the Constitution, oh yeah that’s right, with their staff of judges. Pay attention here.

Don’t you just love the electric car hype? Where does the recharge electricity come from, the question that is never asked.

And don’t forget all the energy efficient methods he uses at his ranch in Crawford compared to AlGore’s mega comsumption mansion. That to me is the real testimony of who takes this matter serious and who is just a fear mongering idiot.

No matter how much attention is put on the price of gas it will still be high, at least higher by $1.50 over last year. Hybrids and other bio fuels will take a while to get into the main stream and are not replacing the millions of cars we have on the road tomorrow that run on gas and diesel. In my ideal world gas would be the same price as it is in Argentina, 12 cents a gallon, but it’s not. So I decided to cruise the web looking how to stop the bleeding and beating my walet takes everytime I pull up to the pump. Check out this site I found, http://www.gasbankusa.com. The site talks about locking in a fixed price for gas. An interesting idea and good concept as long as gas doesn’t go down in price but I am not holding my breath for that to happen. GasBankUSA acctually looks like a pretty good solution to save on gas.
