The profession of journalism evolved into a new level of degradation when “deep throat” began feeding two young reporters the inner workings of an administration. The feeding frenzy that followed produced a thinking that the media had as much power to manipulate the course of events as the power-brokers that were elected by hiding behind the first amendment. The “my source must not be revealed” became a valuable tool that allowed “journalist” to distort the facts to shape their own bias or agenda. Scott McClelland is just part of a long list of incarnated Jason Blairs that found a willing public, (and a disgruntled publisher) to line their pockets. Who would have thought 30 pieces of silver would have stood the test of time.

You lefties will eat it up as usual, as you did the whole Plame baloney but in the end it will go no where because its all bullshit.

Even Ari Fleischer, the WH Press Secretary at the time, said this on Wednesday. Fleischer said there would be no reason for McClellan to be sitting in the room while the war deliberations were ongoing since his portfolio was for domestic issues. Fleischer even commented in the most sensitive, classified sessions, there would be no reason for himself (Fleischer) to be in the room either.

MClellan could have easily written a book and say his viewpoints changed over time, particularly with the Iraq War. That would’ve been okay. There would be no quarrel over a changed mind. But, of course, nobody would buy it as an “insider” book.

As for talking to Rove and Libby with regard to the Plame matter, that was a violation of Bush’s directive of no discussion of this topic among WH personnel during this investigation.

The problem is that Mr. McClellan presents no major new detail to support his conclusions about Iraq, or even about the Administration’s deliberations about how to sell the war. This may be because he was the deputy press secretary for domestic issues during the run-up to war and thus rarely attended war strategy sessions. His talking points are merely the well-trod claims that the Administration oversold the evidence about WMD and al Qaeda.

Three independent investigations have looked into these claims, and all of them concluded that political actors did not skew intelligence to sell the war. These include the Senate Intelligence Committee report of 2004, the Robb-Silberman report of 2005, and Britain’s Butler report. They explain that U.S. – and all Western – intelligence was mistaken but not distorted. Saddam Hussein himself told U.S. interrogators that he kept the fact that he lacked WMD even from many of his own generals
