<em>"The entire line about BHO trying to “redefine patriotism,” is simply such a transparent and hardly coherent ploy that it’s laughable."</em> -- Machiavelli

The only way to"define" something like Patriotism is by example, not by words, which can only inspire feelings that already exist in the heart.

And, since the only way to "define" patriotism is by example, he's well on his way to at least defining what he means by it. Not only that, but we can also see how he is redefining a lot of other qualities we thought we understood, until he clarified the issue for us, for example ...

<blockquote>"indifference is caring"
"inexperience is wisdom"
"stinginess is generosity"
"lies are truth"
"waffling is commitment"
"division is unity"
"materialism is spirituality"
. . . and, of course . . .
"hate for one's country is love of it"</blockquote>

MataHarley,

I also suspected what you are so clearly showing, but it's nice to see the numbers that confirm my suspicions. Nice analysis.

Okay, I'm once again baffled by pundits who pull headlines out of thin air. And in this case, it's that the poll reflected a damaged Obama at the hands of Wright.

Since I'm not much on trusting anything to the calibre of journalists we have today - most especially interpretations of polls - I wandered over to <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-05-04-polltable_N.htm" rel="nofollow"><b>see the the questions and numbers myself.</b></a>

I'm not sure what they are basing that headline on. Frankly, the guy looks consistent, and hasn't lost much momentum at all. i.e.:

<blockquote>Next, we'd like to get your overall opinion of some people in the news. As I read each name, please say if you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of these people - snip

Barack Obama:
2008 May 1-3: 58 favorable, 37 unfavorable

2008 Apr 18-20: 60 favorable, 34 unfavorable

2008 Mar 14-16: 62 favorable, 33 unfavorable

2008 Feb 21-24: 61 favorable, 32 unfavorable

2008 Feb 8-10: 58 favorable, 34 unfavorable</blockquote>

He's not moved much in approval ratings, and finds himself today where he was in February. A 4 pt spread at max.

Here's more:

<blockquote> Just your best guess, do you think in general Barack Obama strongly agrees, agrees, disagrees, (or) strongly disagrees with the more controversial comments Jeremiah Wright has made?

5 strongly agrees
21 agrees
42 disagrees
25 strongly disagrees
7 no opinion

Regardless of whether you think Obama agrees with Jeremiah Wright's statements, how do you think Obama has handled the controversy

21 very well
43 well
27 poorly
7 very poorly
2 no opinion</blockquote>

Let's see... 67% believe Obama disagrees or strongly disagrees with Wright. And 64% feel he handled the situation very well or well. More questions there, and more similar "ho hum" kind of answers.

So my question is... this shows Obama was damaged by Wright how???

Quite the contrary, IMHO. Looks to me like this little stage play is a SRO hit on the Beltway - a big "Mission Accomplished" for His Messiahship. Came thru relatively unscathed, and now wanders sans Wright as the monkey on his back.

BTW, does anyone notice that Wright has dove back under the covers and out of the media spotlight? He did a hit and run in one weekend, then lays low while Obama disentangles himself. Were he out to get Obama, would he not be out there every chance he gets?

Now see, I expect some BHO true believer to show up and drag out the old "it's unfair to hit him with guilt by association." Now, if he had ties to just one radical nut-job, he might be able to get away with "well so-and-so is just a friend," or whatever.
But, BHO has decades long relationships with an entire pack of marxist-racist radicals. If BHO really didn't buy into their hateful ideologies, then why does he have such a consistent history of hanging out with the likes of Jeremiah Wright, Ayers, Dohrn, or Rezko?
The entire line about BHO trying to "redefine patriotism," is simply such a transparent and hardly coherent ploy that it's laughable. Because our enemies abroad (and their sympathizers on our shores) fear and revile our flag he refuses to wear it? How does that make sense!?
But, strangely enough, he always manages to have one behind him on the campaign trail...

Yonason: Yes, you'll hear the sound of cheering and clapping from real Americans!

Ayers is slime and the fact that Obama associated with him, as he did with Wright reveals a pattern.

The photo Curt posted of Obama at the Iowa steak fry from last fall indicates that what Ayers and Wright believe is what Obama believes as well.

PHILOSOPHICAL QUESTION - (purely rhetorical)

If an air conditioner falls from a third or fourth story alley window and lands on a flag stomping terrorist, does it make a sound?

You know Billy, I almost fell for it.

I saw that part about Obama distancing himself from Obama and thought.... that's gotta be a typo.

Then, as I began my response to you, something said to me.... you better look at those links first.

I'm glad I did.

That was rather funny.

Many times I think that Sky55110's posts are created as an attempt at humor as well. Then I realize that he really believes the stuff he types on here.

It has to do with the fact that these are the people Obamassiah associates himself with. These are not just casual aquaintances, these are the people he and his ilk hang around with in Chicago. And it shows bad judgement. He is running for the Presidnecy of the Unted States of America, not the United State of Chicago. Anyone that runs for national office and comes form the Chicago area will never get my vote. Chicago is the most corrupt government in the country and is run by criminals in both parties.

This along with the racist Preacher he went to should tell eveyone he has not got the judgement to run forthe Presidency of the United States.

Should have looked at the links first. Funny

hello billy!! it shows a lack of judgement, a lack of moral compass, a lack of credibility, i guess i could go on. i have to wonder if all libs are so simple minded that they believe all of the flip flopping obama has done on his relationships with these people. all of the libs are so easily guided in their beliefs, they never question the messiah (obama), just follow silently, never speak poorly of the messiah, never stop towing the party line. get real.
