While the entire concept of super delegates seems really odd to me; for the DNC it could be a real saving grace election year. BHO pretty much pulled a con job on those people in the early primaries who actually bought the idea that he was some sort of "unifying" bipartisan force, didn't know about the Rezko and Jeremiah Wright connections, and the fact that he doesn't respect the citizens of Middle America. If they swing the delegate count back to Hillary they'll shore up their base, and not have to worry about the fringe; which will naturally come back into line come November.
Yes, of course they might have to deal with BHO's followers rioting in Denver like in Chicago in '68; but we'll have to deal with that anyway when he loses in November.
Spiffy rhetoric, and endlessly spouting "hope," "change," and calling legitimate questions "distractions" is not going to fly once the general election is on; much less (heaven forbid) in the realm of international affairs.
But, as everyone freely points out, it'll at least be entertaining till the summer convention season; popcorn for everyone!

the dems big problem is that they have two candidates that have very strong support. their supporters are like maniical little robots, little freaks who shout some really hate filled stuff at any one who questions their candidates or policies. the things that are predicted top happen at the concention could be really interesting to see. the candidates are both to focused on the ultimate goal that they are losing sight of what is good for their party or the nation. whoever the eventual candidate is the supporters of the others are in a bad spot. i have read that alot of them will either not vote, or they will vote for mccain. i hope to see the dems defeated, not only because they cannot even run a party, let alone an election, but because i don't share their vision of what they waan this nation to be.

It's becoming a perfect storm for Democrats. The unthinkable is happening before their very eyes. Either they nominate a McGovern type candidate (something the super delegate process was designed to avoid) or they nominate Hillary and see riots in the streets of Denver from disaffected Obamatons.

Either way they are in a mess and there are several stories just like the New Republic article above that all point to that problem.
