McCain Leading…..For Now

Loading

Regular readers know I rarely put much weight on polls but this one is interesting enough to blog about:

Internal polling data, presented privately last week at the Republican National Committee’s state chair meeting and provided to Politico, shows John McCain with a solid lead over both his potential general election rivals. Powered by the same appeal to Democrats and independents that fueled his primary election success, McCain is leading Barack Obama 48 percent to 42 percent and Hillary Clinton 51 percent to 40 percent according to RNC polling done late last month.

He’s moved ahead of the two Democrats by consolidating support among Republicans, but also by retaining his backing among a wide swath of independents and picking up a small chunk of cross-party support.

Among independents, McCain leads Obama 48 percent to 39 percent and Clinton 54 percent to 34 percent. Among Democrats, he picks up 20 percent in a race against Obama and leads Barack Obama 48 percent to 39 percent and Senator Clinton 54 percent to 34 percent.

As time goes on I am more and more convinced that McCain is the right candidate at the right time. Any other would be beaten easily by the Democrats but as they move farther and farther to the left, to a point in which its almost impossible for them to come to the center anymore, they lift Republican chances due to McCain’s appeal to independents.

Think about it. This was supposed to be the year when we get our asses handed to us because of the war and all that (according to the MSM talking heads that is) but with two of the most liberal members of the Democrat party running it doesn’t appear to be that easy of road for them to win this thing. It can still happen….November is a long way off, but with McCain not being a polarizing candidate who appeals to moderates and independents….they have to be worrying.

Of course once the nominee on the Democrat side is picked we will see major coverage on that person from our MSM for months and months so lots could change.

McCain leads now? Big fat hairy deal. Don’t mean a doggoned thing. It isn’t going to really matter until the Dem’s finally choose Obama or Clinton. Still a looooong way ’til November. Get ready for the MSM to lay into McCain viciously once the Democrats finalize their Presidential ticket.

As to McCain in general, he’s definitely the better choice than either Democrat candidate but frankly that’s like saying cat poo is better than dog poo. It all stinks. He just happens to stink less. I’m afraid this election, like many President elections since Reagan, is a case of voting for the “lesser of two evils.”

Since Bush (the good one) it has been the lesser of two dreadful, unqualified prostitutes who sell rooms in the WH or positions in the Government.

McCain will certainly face his share of scrutiny from the media, but the party did not heap terrible new stories about him over the last three months (with more to come for the two Dem candidates). And who is the media going to say is more qualified for this job?

And who is more likely to work to pull the country together? McCain has been vilified by the extreme right for working with those across the aisle. That and his unquestioned leadership and service to the country will win in November. When have the actual issues every mattered?

This race is a no brainer.

I agree that McCain is looking good for winning right now. The Dems could had this election handed to them on a platter and they dropped it. Had they nominated a moderate like Mark Warner they could have won hands down. Instead they have to flawed leftists to choose from.

On the GOP side, Curt is right that no other Republican could probably win. I was for Romney, and I’ll admit that.

I’m more than a little concerned about Soros and his money backing Hussein. Just finished a book telling how the presidency and judgeships can/are bought.
Can you imagine Hussein’s cabinet or the judges he would appoint? We’d be well on our way to one world, one government too. If elected Hussein would just be Soros’s puppet.
