I think that describes quite a few. Especially in light of the OpEd piece in the WSJ that The Jawas pointed to. A culture that loves death -- craves it, and wants to die martyrs? The whole idea goes back to the "rational vs. reasonable" argument we discussed ad nauseum in my politics classes. Nice to have an actual example... In one way, they really aren't smart -- the guy above who had a "premature detonation" for example. On the other hand, they are terribly smart, leveraging propaganda in ways that the media seems to eat up, hook, line, and sinker. Perhaps *cunning* is a better adjective?
