Prince Harry To Exit Afghanistan Early Due To Drudge

Hope Drudge is patting himself on the back:

The MoD said in a statement today that the decision by foreign media outlets to report on Harry’s presence in Afghanistan was “regrettable” but it had contingency plans in place to deal with it.

“Whilst it had been intended that Prince Harry should return in a matter of weeks with the remainder of the Household Cavalry Regiment Battlegroup, the situation has now clearly changed,” the statement said.

“Following a detailed assessment of the risks by the operational chain of command, the decision has been taken by Air Chief Marshal Sir Jock Stirrup, Chief of Defence Staff, in consultation with General Sir Richard Dannatt, Chief of the General Staff, to withdraw Prince Harry from Afghanistan immediately.

“This decision has been taken primarily on the basis that the worldwide media coverage of Prince Harry in Afghanistan could impact on the security of those who are deployed there, as well as the risks to him as an individual soldier.”

Yeah, he was supposed to be coming back soon anyways but the whole thing stinks. Let the man serve his country dammit.

An Australian paper reported this news last month, but no one noticed. Drudge knew if he put it up people would notice and instead of doing the right thing and waiting….his personal ambition took over. One biased reporter in Britain thanks god for him.

Oh, and the Taliban, who have gotten their asses kicked from one side of the country to the other is puffing out their chest a bit:

Taleban insurgents threatened today to intensify attacks on British forces in southern Afghanistan after the news broke of Prince Harry’s secret deployment in the war zone.

Shortly after Army chiefs confirmed that the Prince would be flown out of Afghanistan for security reasons, a Taleban spokesman said that his presence in Helmand province mean that the Royal Family had joined in the “aggression against Muslims”.

It was the insurgent group’s first reaction to the news that Harry had been directly involved in a combat tour in the area.

“Prince Harry’s presence in Afghanistan encourages our fighters to launch more attacks on British forces,” Zabihullah Mujahid said. “The Royal Family is now directly participating in the aggression against Muslims.”

Mr Mujahid, who was talking on the phone from an undisclosed location, said that the British were already facing defeat in Afghanistan. He suggested that the news of his combat tour had been deliberately leaked to cheer the British people.

“We think Prince Harry has been sent to Afghanistan only to boost the sagging morale of the British forces which are in serious trouble,” he said. “For us he is just a part of occupation forces.”

Yeah….I’m sure they’re shaking in their boots.

The Prince believes he may be a target after the news that he was fighting in Afghanistan comes out, which is probable, and that he enjoyed the hell out of being in that country and being anonymous:

During his foreshortened tour Harry enjoyed a level of anonymity he has never experienced as a member of the Royal Family. In one pooled media interview he commented: “I think this is about as normal as I’m ever going to get.”

During a posting to Garmsir, the southernmost part of Helmand under allied control, the Prince was able to go on patrol and mix with locals who had no idea of his royal status.

His work as a Forward Air Controller – more commonly known as JTAC or Joint Terminal Attack Controller – involved carrying out detailed aerial surveillance behind Taliban lines and even calling in bomb strikes on confirmed enemy bunker positions.

Harry has said that he considered leaving the Army last spring after the cancellation of his Iraq tour. Just last week, he spoke of his frustration with the media spotlight in the UK and his preference for the frontline compared to being in barracks at Windsor.

“I don’t want to sit around in Windsor,” he said. “But I generally don’t like England that much and, you know, it’s nice to be away from all the press and the papers and all the general s***e that they write.”

He also expressed hopes of being able to return to Afghanistan as early as this summer - although that possibility is now likely to be in doubt.

Lastly, it appears the British media did the right thing and kept quiet about the tour, in return for unfettered access to the Prince after his return. Nothing comes for free but at least they didn’t hold personal ambition over personal pride in their country.

The enemy has just gotten another soldier supporting freedom off the battlefield. It doesn’t really matter how they get them off the battlefield: killed, wounded, charged with any kind of crime, or in this case, the name one was born with, as long as one of our side is removed it’s all the better for the enemy. The best for the enemy, of course, if they can get them charged with killing someone from the battlefield. It makes every soldier on our side think twice about firing his weapon, costs the enemy no more than someone’s life (which they have no reqard for) and gives them months or even years of free anti-American propaganda. Meanwhile, the enemy can send a suicide bomber in, blow up two or three hundred people and it’ll be forgotten before the end of the next western newscast. We are and have been defeating ourselves.

I was personally asked by a major political figure to leave his son’s presence in Iraq off the record. I intend to honor that request, even though it has been discussed in other media.

It’s sad that Harry has to leave. But the point is made. Military members from ALL walks of life are eager to serve their country in a colation of willing nations to advance common security goals.

Harry’s presence highlighted once again the excellent efforts our British partners are making. Sad that he couldn’t complete his mission before it became public.

I heard that Drudge picked it up from an Australian publication. I think the Ozzies and British are in the same theater.

Yes, Reuters reported that the story was in an Australian magazine and, later, in a German gossip column; however, they stated that when Drudge released it, it “went global” and blew the keep-it-quiet agreement out of the water.

So two other publications let it out and then Drudge picks it up… But it is somehow Drudge’s fault that it “went global”. Somehow I do not believe that. It may be the slant/angle the UK MOD and US /UK Media will take, but more of them were coming out (UK media) that they were chafing at the news blackout on the prince.

I think he should stay in Afghanistan where he wants to be because A) he is safer there, and B) he is leading British Soldiers just as many in the old British Royal Family have done for generations.

This is the greatest Royal hunt ever.

No anti-poaching laws.

Access to the best weapons.

No problems with using automatic weapons in the hunt.

No bag limit.

Beaters to flush the game.

Hang out with manly men.

An out of the way hunting lodge.

Harry did not have to leave, and Drudge is not the reason.

Next time you bitch about the media censoring news, don’t.

As for the slant/angle you are totally correct. The MOD no doubt in cahoots with the BBC realized they had a scape goat. The Righties are bitching and complaining like lefties, and the lefties are sounding like Righties crying foul for “putting him in harms way”. The right si off is rocker, the lefties see a chance to hurt the right and the right helps them

This is why McCain is the Rep Nom. Good job dimwits. How about fighting the liberals instead of our own. Pathetic

“How about fighting the liberals instead of our own.”

I just do not understand the message you are trying to convey, Mark.

On one hand you seem to to be handing out the typical leftist message for England that any Royal is bad. On the other hand you seem to recognize that the much of the media is “Funny how none of you are upset that CNN, AP, BBC — all lefty anti-American sites that run piece after piece on our classified secrets” anti American.

Outing a British Royal, who is doing his duty to his country, and trying to get every terrorist in the area to work at killing him and his fellow soldiers or get a leftist journalist to try to get him in a situation where they can claim, “he killed in cold Blood ” or some other enemy propaganda theme, is simply carrying the enemy propaganda for them.

I think a major part of the fight against the enemy taking over America is fighting against the enemy propaganda arm, known as the media. It was the Anti American media, lead by Walter Cronkite and his buddies, picking up their daily anti American messages from the North Vietnamese spy that ran the Saigon news bureau, along with John Kerry and his anti American friends that won the Vietnam war for the enemy. It was CNN, with their Saddam approved anti American propaganda that hid the truth about Iraq from the western countries.
It’s the anti American media such as AP and Reuters that carry the daily anti American, written and approved by Al-Qaeda propaganda experts’ message, that promote the idea that “We can not Win” message conveyed to America by Sen Reid.

I think the leftist media must be exposed at every level every time they publish an anti-American piece.

The evidence is clear. Matt Drudge did not develop this story. Matt Drudge simply takes stories and puts them on the Internet.

That, in Conservative eyes, makes him entirely innocent.

So being 3rd in line to report a story makes him guilty?

In Steve’s world, ALL conservatives and even those only called conservatives are guilty until proven guilty.

But leftists get a Steve Pass…..

Your baseless and ignorant insults against what you think are conservatives is beyond tired.

I base my assertion on the basis that I can count on the Conservatives here to unceasingly defend certain individuals, such as Drudge, Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and James Dobson.

From that base, I can count on Conservatives to block all accountability for Conservatives they are pledged to defend to the death: Such as George w. Bush.

Had a “Liberal” journalist reported this item, even at the tenth level, Conservatives would have heaped calumny upon him/her.

But not Drudge.
