Mitt Romney has WON the nomination for the hearts and minds of conservatives!

At today’s Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C. Mitt Romney made it clear that it was more important in a time of war for Republicans to win in November than to permit Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama to become President and declare surrender and retreat in the War on Terror.

“If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign be a part of aiding a surrender to terror,” Romney told the crowd.

“This is not an easy decision for me,” Romney continued. “I hate to lose. My family, my friends and our supporters … many of you right here in this room … have given a great deal to get me where I have a shot at becoming president. If this were only about me, I would go on. But I entered this race because I love America, and because I love America, I feel I must now stand aside, for our party and for our country.”

The nomination fight in the GOP is over.

John McCain has won the GOP nomination for President. But Mitt Romney has won the hearts and minds of conservatives. Doubts about the former Governor of one of the most liberal states were swept aside by those who heard him speak today at CPAC. The response to him by attendees was wildly enthusiastic and emotional. Romney has now donned the mantle of Reagan conservatism that was denied to him earlier in the race.

THIS MAN HAS CLASS!

Time Magazine’s track record of fact checking is not that great, so I would wait for something more reliable.

Didn’t take me long to eat those word’s. Mr. Romney just announced he’s out!

What will Mike Huckabee do now? If he is no longer needed to divert votes on behalf of John McCain, will he stay in?

Well, I give up.

I’m just going to let the party take me where it takes me.

But it sure wont be with Ron Hucking Paul.

At this point I’m just hoping it’s not Obama. That would pretty much be the end of the world as we know it.

You should be used to that by now.

Mitt certainly deserves the thanks from conservatives of all stripes. He’s shown class, he’s shown selflessness.

Though not my first, second, or third choice, I’ll vote for McCain. As Mitt said in his speech, we cannot allow Hillary or Obama be elected president in a time of war. And, at this time, this trumps all other issues.

Mitt just couldn’t compete and he knew it. He would have needed to run the board from today on and it’s just not possible. He understands what Mike, Word, myself and others have been saying for sometime. The most important objective is to ensure Hillary/Obama is defeated.

Very classy of Mitt.

Ron Hucking Paul.

Marie,

That’s one of the funniest lines I’ve read from you!

Word,

You had to have been in the room the other night when someone coined the phrase “We’ve been Hucked”!

Well it kind of fits now :-)

There was an air of being sucker punched at CPAC when I watched Mitt’s speech. A few hours later, I overhead a ladies room conversation where two women were NOT happy about McCain chat with a McCain supporter. She could not articulate how McCain is different from the leading Dems. I agree.

Oh, true to my callsign as Moonbat Slayer - I demonstrated how easy it is to make a liberal cut and run from the area…

Mitt showed a lot of class by waiting to tell the people at CPAC instead of just coming out in the media to do it. It gives him a lot of respect among us conservatives for the 2012….IMO

McCain once again used the code phrase “secure the borders first”. Everybody knows what comes second. He failed to do what’s necessary to seal the bargain.

Igor: McCain has effectively dodged the immigration issue throughout the campaign. He gets away with saying “secure the borders FIRST” but then never answers what comes SECOND.

We all know it’s back to amnesty with the McCain-Kennedy “Z” visa able to be renewed indefinitely without learning English or taking civics lessons.

Mike, I read his entire speech. It’s an exercise in double talk. Take it from someone who used to read Pravda editorials.

Mike,

I think Matt Lewis’ post probably reflects some of your sentiments.
