I guess this is where we differ, Mike. I read this and think to myself “WOW, 61% of conservatives are supporting the two biggest liberals in the GOP race? What the hell is going on here?”

But again, my next question is what kind of ‘conservatives’ are they? And what are their main issues. If social conservatives, why are they supporting McCain when he has not been fully pro-life, when he went against the Wisconsin Right to Life? If they are supporting Huckabee, don’t they know about his taking money from embryonic stem cell groups? If they are fiscal and are supporting them, don’t they know about McCain’s support of global warming which will have a HUGE affect on the economy. Or if Huckabee, don’t they know he is a big government tax raiser?

These are things I cannot address if all I get is “conservatives voted…”

Do you get what I’m saying?

My point is when I see “conservative”, I have no clue what that means. Fiscal? Social? Neo-cons? Isolationists? Ron Paul conservatives? What does that tell me? Nothing.

Now, if they said “social conservatives voted…” or “fiscal conservatives voted…”, then that would tell me something.

There are many people who call themselves conservative who are supporting Mike Huckabee or John McCain, even though they are both pretty much liberals. So when I see that, I wonder, what makes them call themselves a conservative and see John McCain or Mike Huckabee as a conservative? But, I don’t get that answer, I get “conservatives voted…” Brilliant.

The mass media is propping up McCain and Huckabee and are trashing Rudy, Romney and Fred. And they are ignoring Ron Paul. (probably a good thing). But I see no reason for any candidate to drop out until after Super Tuesday. Those people deserve some choices.

And I wouldn’t take the word of FAUX news for anything anymore. They are quite the joke. They have been trying to push Fred Thompson out of this race for quite a while now. That said, the only reason I can see for Fred Thompson to skip the debate is to be at his mother’s side. I don’t see it as a prelude to dropping out of the race.

But, we’ll see what he has to say tomorrow. He may just be setting everyone up again with the mass media expecting a speech about dropping out and he uses them to give another stump speech. heh

Don’t make me repeat again how often I have gone toe to toe IN PERSON TO MANY OF THESE CANDIDATES on the issues that are important.

And frankly, I think it is a VERY important story that more than one third of self identified conservatives rejected the ISSUES put forward by Huckabee and McCain.

As I said, how about 35% of those whose #1 issue was immigration went to Huckabee. 40% of those whose #1 issue was taxes went to Romney. etc etc

That is what matters to me. All that other stuff is meaningless nonsense, as far as I am concerned. Especially since I cannot do anything about it. I CAN do something about finding out that people who want illegal immigration stopped are voting for John McCain. That tells me they are not aware of his record. So I can talk to them about that.

What am I supposed to say to someone who says “ooh, I’m voting for him because of his personality!” What is this, American Idol?

Issues, issues issues. I want to see post-primary analysis on how people voted on the issues. Don’t you think that is most relevant? Shouldn’t that be most relevant?

You’ll see what how voters ranked a series of issues and how it affected their vote.

That’s great, Mike. So why wasn’t that the topic of your post instead of the highlights about how conservatives, those who attend church and liberals/independents voted?

I’m not trying to be a little b*tch here. But I see this post-primary voting analysis happen on pretty much every blog. Instead of highlighting WHY people voted, the analysis is of WHO voted. I don’t care who voted and neither should anyone else. What matters is the issues.

Again, I’m just tired of seeing post-primary analysis focus on identity politics instead of issue politics.

At any rate, I’ll wait for official word from Fred, Bill Lacey, or Sean Hackbarth before I start fearing the worst.
