Hat tip: American Power
A former fetus, the “wordsmith from nantucket” was born in Phoenix, Arizona in 1968. Adopted at birth, wordsmith grew up a military brat. He achieved his B.A. in English from the University of California, Los Angeles (graduating in the top 97% of his class), where he also competed rings for the UCLA mens gymnastics team. The events of 9/11 woke him from his political slumber and malaise. Currently a personal trainer and gymnastics coach.
The wordsmith has never been to Nantucket.
I saw that for the first time yesterday and loved it! One of the best Marine commercials I’ve seen yet.
Great stuff. I’ve been very critical of the ads appealing to guys who want the college money or benefits. There are some ads out there that appeal to a man’s sense of attraction to women because we love a man in uniform. Wrong, wrong, wrong! If the military wants to attract an all volunteer force that is STRONG it must run these sorts of ads that appeal to patriotism and honor, duty, country, not bennies, girls and education.
i wonder… was this the commercial that the golden gate committee wouldn’t let get filmed on the bridge because of the fact that the marines were carrying guns?
great commercial imo
Fantastic commercial! One of the best from the Corps in a long time.
Chris,
Yes same one. Actually it was the SF Film Commission. They wouldn’t let the Marines be filmed on the streets because they were Marines, not because they had rifles.
F*CK San Francisco!
Forgot about that Chris….those scumbags.
The Marines have an excellent recruiting commercial. Damn good. Curt, ready to re-enlist? I am.
It sure gave me goosebumps David. They wouldn’t have me at 40, but it sure made me feel like running with some good ole USMC cadence.

+1
I’d love to go back to my old BLT, but I’m too old and too comfortable to go back to Grunt work.
I can’t say enough about that commercial. It’s absolutely outstanding!

This Devil Dog says Semper Fi! If it were possible I’d do it again.
