You Have To Be Kidding Me

You have to be kidding me:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Friday asked President Bush to meet with them to discuss an economic stimulus package after he returns from a Middle East trip.

The Democratic leaders expressed their concern over the “deteriorating state of the economy” and said they would urge Bush to work with the congressional majority to jointly fight off a potential recession.

“Prominent economists associated with Republican and Democratic administrations have called on us to supplement monetary policy with an immediate fiscal stimulus,” Reid and Pelosi said in a letter to Bush. “These same economists have stated that the most effective and responsible stimulus policies adhere to three simple principles: they must be timely, targeted and temporary.”

The Democrats expressed their desire to work with the White House and congressional Republicans “to immediately develop a legislative plan based upon these principles so it can be passed and implemented into law without delay.”

~~~
Reid and Pelosi also cautioned Bush not to announce a plan on his own until both sides had met to discuss the issue.
Cautioned? Or what? They’re going to complain some more?
Geez.
Why in the world do these yahoo’s believe the President would sit down with the two worst Congressional leaders we’ve had in some time? They have accomplished nothing….NOTHING….in their time of power and working with them would accomplish little.
I believe that they want the President to decline, they can then blame Bush and his tax cuts. These people never miss an opportunity to play dirty pool.
Quit saying the current leadership of congress hasn’t accomplished anything. They got the minimum wage increase passed which gave at least two Criminal mexicans working at a McDonalds somewhere a raise. So the correct charge is they accomplished almost nothing in a year.
There is already a real stimulus pckage in the works and a stimulus package now. The now part is retraining the workforce. There are a shortage of workers in the medical field, in the rail road industry, in our shipping ports, in the police force and in the military among others.
All those baby boomers (almost 80 million of them) are starting to retire and those jobs need to be filled. Something like 27% plan to stay and work past 65 but in 3 years the first batch will be turning 65. The government either should invest in retraining and collecting that money back in taxes or just wait it out and let it correct itself.
Huckabee said he had to raise taxes because of a court order, well they don’t have the constitutional right to do so. Someone with gravitas has to tell these meddling judges to stuff it.
Jainphx,
Do you have any links for that? It would make a great story on out of control judicial activism, miss-use of power, and the unwillingness to stand up to it.
