The Top 10 of Washington’s Most Corrupt?

Loading

Judicial Watch has names its top 10 most corrupt politicians of 2007 and its a who’s-who list of Democrats:

  • Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA): …Feinstein reviewed military
construction government contracts, some of which were ultimately
awarded to URS Corporation and Perini, companies then owned by
    Feinstein’s husband, Richard Blum…
  • Governor Mike Huckabee (R-AR): …”[Huckabee’s] career has also
been colored by 14 ethics complaints and a volley of questions about
his integrity, ranging from his management of campaign cash to his use
of a nonprofit organization to subsidize his income to his destruction
of state computer files on his way out of the governor’s office…”
  • Senator Barack Obama (D-IL): …n 2007, more reports surfaced
of deeper and suspicious business and political connections It was
reported that just two months after he joined the Senate, Obama
purchased $50,000 worth of stock in speculative companies whose major
investors were his biggest campaign contributors. One of the companies
was a biotech concern that benefited from legislation Obama pushed…
  • Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA): …snuck a $25 million gift to her
husband, Paul Pelosi, in a $15 billion Water Resources Development Act
recently passed by Congress. The pet project involved renovating ports
in Speaker Pelosi’s home base of San Francisco. Pelosi just happens to
own apartment buildings near the areas targeted for improvement, and
will almost certainly experience a significant boost in property value
    as a result of his wife’s earmark…
  • Senator Harry Reid (D-NV): …over the last four years, Reid
has used his influence in Washington to help a developer, Havey
Whittemore, clear obstacles for a profitable real estate deal. As the
project advanced, the Times reported, “Reid received tens of thousands
of dollars in campaign contributions from Whittemore.” Whittemore also
hired one of Reid’s sons (Leif) as his personal lawyer…

Also on the list is Giuliani, Conyers, Craig, and Libby.

Its a sad day in our Capitol when a man like “Freezer” Jefferson can’t even break the top 10.  But seriously, you have to question Judicial Watch when they include Libby, a man whose memory was faulty and Craig, a man playing footsies in the local head but do not include the man who took bribes galore and hid bribe money in his freezer.

UPDATE

At least this women was voted the most annoying.

The list is hugely biased towards figures currently in the news. Obviously Jefferson is more corrupt than Obama, and Craig isn’t corrupt at all in the usual sense of the word. And Giuliani, much as I dislike him, isn’t corrupt either (at least on the basis of what they have here… corrupt *friends*, sure…).
And I can’t believe you didn’t mention Clinton, but maybe you figured everyone already knew she was on the list.

Obama, Illinois media excluded, has been getting a free ride on his Rezko ties.

Twenty days after Super Tuesday, Tony Rezko goes on trial in Chicago. I would assume he’d still be in the race, so it’ll be interesting how the national media will cover the trial. Since an indictment of our current governor, Rod Blagojevich, is practically an inevitibility, and Rezko is on trial mainly because of his influence peddling on behalf of the Dem. governor, local media, and this blogger, will be all over this story.

In the end, any list is no more relevant than the criteria used to compiile it. If find Judicial Watch’e list puzzling. They list Scooter Libby, who while a convicted felon, has no known pattern of corruption.

On the other, JW omitts John Murtha who steers tax payer dollars into his bank accounts.

JW’w iist certainly interesting, but is it relevant?

The list is a total fraud.
It represents an attempt at attention-grabbing, by listing prominent people in the news, and making spurious charges against many of them. The real corrupt pols are not mentioned.
JW loses all credibility here.

FOUR Presidential candidates are on the list. I hope people are paying attention! Their list from last year was longer (and if you think some names were left off this list, they were probably on the list from last year). My bet is that if you don’t like this list, it’s because “your guy” is on it. Get wise and go with someone who will actually govern as a conservative, like Mitt or Fred.

My bet is that if you don’t like this list, it’s because “your guy” is on it

You would lose that bet as far as I’m concerned. I don’t like the list because it’s a vapid exercise in name-dropping, with no apparent work whatsoever put into identifying the truly corrupt. None of my top three choices (Paul, Thompson, Romney) are on the list.

Yup, this list is no way accurate. What about my Congressman Joe Baca? He is for one, misogynistic and I think that takes some of his campaign money to pay off family members too.

Judicial Watch discribes itself as a “conservative, non -partisaneducational foundation”
Of course Democrats are going to outnumber Republicans.
I prefer to keep score on the number of convictions and the Republicans are leading in that as well as in years to be served. An important stat !!

Hmmmm, lets take a look at 2007 shall we?

10 Dem’s Arrested – Bribery
One Dem Convicted – Corruption
One Dem Convicted – Bribery
One Dem Convicted – Vote Fraud
Sixteen Dem’s Convicted – Vote Fraud
One Dem Arrested – Fraud
One Dem Convicted – Larceny
One Dem Arrested – Bribery
One Dem Arrested – Sexual exploitation of minor

So lets play a game. You list the Republican lawmakers, former lawmakers, and aides arrested in 2007 and I will continue the Dem side.

Curt,

I would not hold your breath on our resident (but semi-sane) leftist troll answering you.

I could also add lists of my own about corrupt dems who seem above the law.

Judicial Watch’s Dubious Top 10 Corrupt Politicians of 2007

I find it somewhat dubious that so many Presidential candidates happened to make the list, though. Especially Rudy Giuliani, who hasn’t held an elected position since 2001. Not sure how that makes him more corrupt this year than many, many other …
