A Silent Night in the SC Lowcountry. photo by Mike’s America

Silent Night
By Father Josef Mohr & Franz X. Gruber
Played here by: Michael Allen Harrison from Fireside Carols

Silent night, Holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in Heavenly peace
Sleep in Heavenly peace

Silent night, Holy night
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from Heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Hallelujah
Christ, the Savior is born
Christ, the Savior is born

Silent night, Holy night
Son of God, love’s pure light
Radiant beams from thy Holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at thy birth

Throughout the year, we’re buffeted by storms both
political and natural. But today in the South Carolina Lowcountry all
is quiet. Wherever you are or whatever your faith, I hope that the
spirit of Christmas brings you Joy and Peace today and throughout the
year to come.

Merry Christmas!

To my Democrat Friends:

“Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and /or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2008, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere. And without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishes. By accepting these greetings you are accepting these terms. This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for herself or himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.

What Word said! =)

But seriously, I was about to do up my own Xmas post but saw Mike’s and thought it was perfect for FA. Will keep it up top through Xmas.

Merry Christmas to Word, Mike, Scott, Chris and Rob and especially to all of our readers.

Curt: The more Christmas (I’m not a big fan of the Xmas abbreviation)posts the merrier I say.

Can you tell I was getting a little dizzy on the dock as I got to the end? I put them up for a friend. The day I put them up we had more wave action and the dock was swaying slightly as I repeatedly bent over the railing to fasten the lights.

Merry Christmas all.

P.S. Maybe our defeatist friends would prefer “Happy Ramadan!”

The Christmas Star

According to new astronomic research, the fabled Christmas star from the Bible is increasingly supported by facts, not fiction.

Astronomer Rick Larson has studied the gospels and scientific models in depth for ten years and has concluded that the star

I will have to admit there many fine renditions of that music , but for my money the Christmas CD solo on violin by Manheim Steamroller is just plain awesome.

It is one of those tracks that will just send chills down your spine.

Here’s a link to listen to the Mannheim version:

If anyone wants to download it and put a link to it up here, please do.

I’ve never heard that version and just listened to it for the first time.

Wow!

Here is a light show to it on YouTube. Excellent.

Curt

You would have to hear that thing played over my home theater system.

Champagne for all and crank up the volume and add a touch of delay to the speakers by putting it on concert hall profile.

It will literally make your spine tingle and you hair on your arms stand up.

I’m all for heading over to JustADude’s house for the Champagne, but the stuffed turkey is in the oven already!

AM 1290 Savannah, Georgia is streaming the Mannheim Steamroller American Christmas program:

It’s a beautiful night here, just like in the photo. I’ve just turned on the outside lights, got at least 1,000 watts outside and another 1,000 watts blazing inside. I’m doing my best for Global Warming!

I’ll meet you over there Mike, some Champagne sounds good!

Gonna have to try that recording on the surround sound on concert hall delay. Never done that before.

Well the family here is getting ready to sit down for supper.

Can’t wait to see what the chef has cooked up this year.

He declared the kitchen off limits two days ago and he always comes up with a master piece of a holiday feast.

Right now we are lighting the front yard enjoying a bit of pfferneuse the chef just popped out with.

4 acres of front yard with lots of lights (40,000 plus) and multiple displays both static and dynamic. Some computer driven with music themes.

Takes a staff of 6 about 4 days after Turkey day to set it all up every year and also I have to reserve in advance a portable 25k generator semi-trailer to power it all.

I have been told you can see it from the space station.

Curt I don’t know how familiar you are with that group, but go here and then click each sample in windows media so you can sample the CD…you will probably be hunting for it in after Xmas sales.

JustADude: post a photo link to that lights display! No bragging rights without proof!

Merry Christmas

P.S. I just took a drive over towards the Golf Courses. Seems white lights are still the norm and the L.E.D. revolution has yet to catch on!

P.P.S. An incredible full moon just came up over the Ocean. Putting all our lights to shame!
