Tough Questions for Mike Huckabee

The Huckabee surge in South Carolina rolls on. Will the bubble burst?

SC12-10polls12092007.jpg

The latest Mason Dixon poll of SC GOP voters confirms what the past week’s Rasmussen and Insider Advantage polls for SC suggest: The Huckabee surge in South Carolina continues unabated.

The Real Clear polling averages for the top six candidates:

Huckabee:21.5%
Giuliani: 17.3%
Romney: 17.0%
Thompson: 15.5%
McCain: 9.8%
Paul: 4.3%

Matched with Huckabee’s surge in Iowa this makes him the man to beat.

Some say Huckabee has caught on because voters in these two key states all of a sudden discovered that Huckabee is the “real conservative” many thought was lacking earlier in the race. Others suggest that Huckabee is the flavor of the month, and as voter’s learn more about his experience and what he really stands for his numbers will come down.

But there is no denying that he is in the top tier of candidates.

Mike’s America Questions for Huckabee:

It’s been my mission this year to meet many of the GOP candidates who visited my area of the South Carolina Lowcountry, I’m hoping that Governor Huckabee will include Hilton Head Island on his South Carolina travel schedule very soon.

I’ve taken the opportunity to ask the other candidates tough questions and I have one for Mike Huckabee too:

Question: Governor, illegal immigration is a very important issue here in South Carolina. On Fox News Sunday you told Chris Wallace that many illegal immigrants are here “because they’re trying to feed their families.” At grocery stores in this area illegal immigrants line up to buy food for their entire family with tax payer funded federal vouchers from the Women, Infants and Children program (it’s not just baby milk, but all the staples a family could need).

Your recent immigration plan stresses border security, which most conservatives agree is essential, but if we continue to incentive lawbreaking by rewarding those who violate our immigration law with taxpayer benefits we will still have an illegal immigrant problem no matter how tall the fence is.

My question is: Are you prepared to amend your recently announced immigration plan to include a proposal to end all federal benefits to illegal aliens.

If I have the chance for a follow-up it would be:

In a question by Chris Wallace about the CIA interrogation tapes you came out strongly against torture. Do you believe waterboarding is torture? And if you do, how would you explain your opposition to this technique to the occupants of the Library Tower in Los Angeles (photo right), who were saved after we learned about a planned attack on the building using these techniques?

Update:Huckabee Facing Howard Dean Moment in Iowa? Aaarrrggghh!

Huckabee’s shot at the nomination depends on a very strong showing in Iowa, then South Carolina (he’s not likely to win in New Hampshire). But if he peaks too soon in Iowa, after incredible expectations have been created with his metoric rise, will his candidacy in South Carolina sink like a lead ballon?

I go with flavor of the month, I haven’t made up my mind yet myself but even Rush is saying Fred is the most traditional conservative of the bunch and he has the best position papers on his website for all to read so far.

Heck I am still trying to work my way through the FEC data on Paul to see if any Hillary donors are in the mix just to keep him in the race and it wouldn’t surprise me she may be temporarily helping out another man from Hope just to play monkey wrench games with the right.

Heck Romney isn’t pulling as well as he should in Michigan where his dad was Governor for crying out loud.

Huck just learned how to fake sincerity well. This “Christian Leader” is a snake oil salesman who will be relentlessly exposed from now on.

Justadude: Only one recent poll from Michigan:

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/mi/michigan_republican_primary-237.html

Rasmussen and it showed Giuliani 19, Romney 20. The Detroit News poll with Rudy 28, Mitt 25 is now a month old.

Igor: It’s entirely appropriate for Huck to face the same scrutiny that all of the other candidates have. If we don’t cover that stuff now, you can bet Madame Hillary will.

Mike, Huck does need some extra exposure for sure! He is a tough customer to pin down though: his brand-new immigration plan is actually quite good, although it totally contradicts everything in his record. I expect it to be just a trial balloon on his way to repudiate EVERYTHING ELSE in his record that stands in the way of getting elected. There may soon be a complete foreign policy agenda backed by nothing at all but sounding very good. He does speak well in front of the camera, so well you don’t even see both sides of his mouth moving. Hopefully articles like the one below plus the commercials running against him in Iowa and elsewhere will expose this fraud.

I guess I have to apologize for calling Mitt a flip-flopper. Compared to Huck he is the Rock of Gibraltar:

Igor: Thanks for the link:

That one story could generate a half dozen more questions for the Huck. His view on Iran is rather troubling as is his total lack of exposure to foreign policy issues.

Now that he’s in the top tier he’s going to have to answer these questions with more than just soundbites.

YOu all know of course that this fake surge started right after Huckabee was taken in by the CFR?

I mean, how does someone go from 3% to 29% with only $500K in the bank?

LUDICROUS!

THERE_IS_NO_SURGE!

Plus he is no conservative….has a worse record on taxes than Clinton and got a D from CATO.

He has no organization here in NH, none.

JustADude — when you say you want to see if Hillary is keeping in the man from hope, that is NOT PAUL..

Paul has $11M and will have $17M by the end of the 16th of December.

Huck has no money….NONE, and there is no surge.

And yet, Huck will get more votes than Ru Paul! Go figure! Must be the influence of the Knights Templar!

Fight illegal immigration. Contact your elected reps. and demand they co-sponsor the Save Act. The House bill is HR 4088. The Senate bill is S2368.

The House bill was introduced by a Dem. and has 122 co-sponsors from both parties.

Visit NumbersUSA for more details.- http://www.numbersusa.com/actionbuffet

Only vote for candidates willing to support this bill. It forces all employers to verify social security numbers.

Let’s take our country back !
