I had not heard about this Shuster interview until today and now that I’ve looked into it I can honestly say the guy is a first class putz. He was the first to wishfully utter the words Karl Rove may be indicted soon (how wrong he was) and now he ambushes a Republican lawmaker over the death of a soldier in her district:
Shuster: "Let’s talk about the public trust. You represent, of course, a district in western Tennessee. What was the name of the last solider from your district who was killed in Iraq?"
Blackburn:"The name of the last soldier killed in Iraq uh – from my district I – I do not know his name …"
Shuster: "Okay, his name was Jeremy Bohannon. He was killed August the 9th, 2007. How come you didnít know the name?"
Blackburn: "I – I, you know, I – I do not know why I did not know the name…"
Shuster: "But you weren’t appreciative enough to know the name of this young man. He was 18 years old who was killed, and yet you can say chapter and verse about what’s going on with The New York Times and Move On.org…." [snip] "Don’t you understand, the problems that a lot of people would have, that you’re so focused on an ad. When was the last time a New York Times ad ever killed somebody? I mean, here we have a war that took the life of an 18-year-old kid, Jeremy Bohannon, from your district, and you didn’t even know his name."
Problem is that the soldier is NOT from her district so she would not have been notified:
I did a little research on the soldier (Pvt. Jeremy Bohannon) mentioned in this segment. He was from the town of Bon Aqua, TN. I looked up his last name and town in www.whitepages.com and found the 9 digit zip-code associated with the address listed (it was the only listing). I went to the "Write Your Representative" web site and put in the 9 digit zip code + TN. Guess what I found! The young man did NOT live in Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn’s district 7. That particular address/zip code resides in District 8, represented by Congressman John Tanner (D-TN). Now assuming that all of this research is accurate based upon the information provided at the WaPo site and the US House of Representatives site, then David Shuster was WRONG! When will MSNBC issue a correction?
It appears Shuster issued first a non-apology:
the story was about blackburn’s hypocrisy… it wouldn’t matter whether the soldier’s name was David shuster or Crazy Water [the email name of the reader]. she didn’t know the name, period.
Regards,
D
Then another non-apology:
I respect your point of view… But if you are truly an “editor,” as you say, I’m sure you will understand that this segment was about the priorities of Representative Blackburn. What do you think it says when any lawmaker, regardless of their party, knows more about a newspaper ad than about their constituents serving and dying in Iraq?
And finally someone forced him to apologize on air:
DAVID SHUSTER: On Monday evening while guest-hosting the 6 p.m. evening hour, I conducted an interview with Tennessee Republican Marsha Blackburn. The congresswoman spoke at length about a newspaper ad that criticized General Petraeus. In what I believed was an effort to examine Representative Blackburn’s priorities, I then asked her to name the last soldier from her congressional district killed in Iraq.
She responded "the name of the last soldier killed in Iraq from my district, I do not know." After that response, I identified who I believed to be that fallen soldier, a Tennessean killed in Iraq last month. But according to Pentagon documents, that young man came from a town inside a neighboring congressional district, not from Representative Blackburn’s, and for that, I apologize for that mistake.
Either way his conduct was reprehensible. But what do you expect from a liberal shill like Shuster, who gets his info from people like Jason Leopold. He’s a hack who thought he would be cute and sandbag a Republican. I highly doubt he has EVER done the same to someone in his own party. Everything I’ve read about Marsha Blackburn tells me she is a respected conservative inside the Tennessee Republican party, has dedicated bridges in the name of fallen Tennessee soldiers, she has visited the troops in Iraq and based on actions is obviously supportive of our military.
The exact opposite of people like David Shuster.
The liberals are crying that the fact is she didn’t know the name of the last soldier killed but you know what? Her job isn’t to know the name of every soldier killed, its to fight the liberal nimrods who put up traitorous ads in newspapers. Who spread misinformation and try to force this country to run from a fight like cowards. President Bush doesn’t know the name of every soldier killed, this fact does not prove that he cares little for them. His deeds, meeting with the families over and over and over again, on the other hand shows us that he does care.
She has shown how much she respects our military by prior deeds. This ambush, on the other hand, has only shown how biased our MSM really is.
