Baqouba Guardians with IP repel al-Qaeda attack Multi-National Division — North PAO

BAQOUBA, Iraq — In an unprecedented combined action in Diyala Province, Iraqi police and citizen volunteers defeated a coordinated attack of approximately 40-60 al-Qaeda terrorists in the southern Burhitz area of Baqouba, Wednesday, and killed an estimated 21 insurgents, wounding more.

As the terrorists entered the city of Burhitz, a group of concerned local citizens, called ‘Baqouba Guardians,’ and IPs stationed in Burhitz engaged the first wave of attackers, killing seven. At least two suicide bombers were killed before they reached their intended targets, with the bomb vests detonating prematurely.

The IP notified the Provincial Joint Coordination Center and requested Coalition Force attack helicopter support after the first engagement. Attack helicopters arrived and engaged another large group of heavily armed fighters staging near the first attack site, killing or wounding an estimated 14 terrorists.

Approximately six citizens were killed and up to 20 more wounded during this attack. Iraqi Security Forces are continuing to secure the scene, pursue al-Qaeda, and move wounded to the Baqouba General Hospital.

“Baqouba should be proud of their security forces and their citizen guardians today,” said Col. Steve Townsend, commander, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division. “All fought side-by-side and soundly defeated a complex attack from a determined enemy. This thing could have been much worse had those suicide bombers reached their targets,” said Townsend.

AQs barbarity is why the US marines have esentially crushed the insurgency in Al Anbar and is part of the reason why the surge has been so successful.

Most definitely. They can’t engage us in combat so they kill innocents as terrorists are known to do. Only a lefty could equate that with losing the war. The Iraqi’s understand that we (meaning the coalition AND the Iraqi’s) are winning, and we understand this also. Spin it how you want, as you liberals are known to do.

As far as not reporting it, you may notice I haven’t reported on every successful operation our troops conduct also (and their are many daily). Maybe it just slipped your mind huh? Maybe you noticed I only post a couple times a day since I have a day job and all. If not, now you know. I’m taking a wild guess here but I’m thinking your next comment will include “chickenhawk”.

Al Queda suicide bombers, 90% of which are FOREIGN to Iraq have killed tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi Muslims who have failed to bow at the altar of Islamic radicalism. Foreing Muslims in Iraq have killed more Muslims than they have killed U.S. troops!

Does that help enlighten you? Perhaps we should post on that topic as you obviously don’t seem to think that Muslim’s killing Muslims is any big deal.

Isn’t it interesting to see the veil lifted from the mainstream “news” media? And what a laugh that they think they are a”sacred and magical place.” Are they smoking peyote for their “sacred, magical” rituals?

And I almost feel sorry for Joe Scarborough. Wasn’t he part of the original 1994 Newt revolution? He’s sold out to MSNBC, but I guess someone has to work there even if almost no one watches.

And the approval rating for congress is even lower. Your point?

As the Times editor says, “I have no doubt that in this and in most other mainstream newsrooms in America, the majority of those sleeves would be of the same color: blue.” Now, the last two elections have been extremely close races, nearly 50/50. An organization that is mostly “blue” is “out of touch” with at least half of the country. And if “activism is a primary driver for many journalists”, you can expect that they are significantly left of center of the bell curve, leaving them “out of touch” with much more than half.
