Al Gore Hysterics on Global Warming

Loading

Al Gore must be feeling the heat.  He has written a hysterical article with lots, I mean LOADS, of misinformation on other planets and our planet.  I’m betting the fact that there is no consensus on his fantasies of man made global warming is starting to piss him off a bit:

Our home — Earth — is in danger. What is at risk of being destroyed is not the planet itself, but the conditions that have made it hospitable for human beings. …

As a direct result, many scientists are now warning that we are moving closer to several “tipping points” that could — within 10 years — make it impossible for us to avoid irretrievable damage to the planet’s habitability for human civilization. …

This is not a political issue. This is a moral issue, one that affects the survival of human civilization. It is not a question of left versus right; it is a question of right versus wrong.

[…]Earth and Venus are almost exactly the same size, and have almost exactly the same amount of carbon. The difference is that most of the carbon on Earth is in the ground — having been deposited there by various forms of life over the last 600 million years — and most of the carbon on Venus is in the atmosphere.

As a result, while the average temperature on Earth is a pleasant 59 degrees, the average temperature on Venus is 867 degrees. True, Venus is closer to the Sun than we are, but the fault is not in our star; Venus is three times hotter on average than Mercury, which is right next to the Sun. It’s the carbon dioxide.

Now, I’m no astronomer but even I can see through his misinformation here.  Venus is 96% Carbon Dioxide and much closer to the sun….to try to compare our planet to Venus smacks of desperation to me.  Here is Ed Morrissey:

It’s because the Venusian atmosphere is 96% carbon dioxide, and the fact that it’s much closer to the sun. Mercury isn’t "right next to the Sun" in any real sense other than it’s the closest planet. Its average orbit puts it closer to Venus than the Sun. Venus is not "three times hotter than Mecury on average," but only slightly hotter. Mercury’s mean temperature is 354 degrees Fahrenheit, but ranges from -290 degrees at "night" to over 840 degrees during its "day", which lasts over a month. Venus is slightly hotter and has no real temperature variations, but it isn’t "three times as hot".

This is the man the Environazi’s want us to listen to?  Come on.

James Taylor wrote up an excellent, point by point skewering of Al Gore’s lies in today’s Sun Times:

A cooperative and productive discussion of global warming must be open and honest regarding the science. Global warming threats ought to be studied and mitigated, and they should not be deliberately exaggerated as a means of building support for a desired political position.

Many of the assertions Gore makes in his movie, ”An Inconvenient Truth,” have been refuted by science, both before and after he made them. Gore can show sincerity in his plea for scientific honesty by publicly acknowledging where science has rebutted his claims.

For example, Gore claims that Himalayan glaciers are shrinking and global warming is to blame. Yet the September 2006 issue of the American Meteorological Society’s Journal of Climate reported, "Glaciers are growing in the Himalayan Mountains, confounding global warming alarmists who recently claimed the glaciers were shrinking and that global warming was to blame."

Gore claims the snowcap atop Africa’s Mt. Kilimanjaro is shrinking and that global warming is to blame. Yet according to the November 23, 2003, issue of Nature magazine, "Although it’s tempting to blame the ice loss on global warming, researchers think that deforestation of the mountain’s foothills is the more likely culprit. Without the forests’ humidity, previously moisture-laden winds blew dry. No longer replenished with water, the ice is evaporating in the strong equatorial sunshine."

Gore claims global warming is causing more tornadoes. Yet the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change stated in February that there has been no scientific link established between global warming and tornadoes.

Gore claims global warming is causing more frequent and severe hurricanes. However, hurricane expert Chris Landsea published a study on May 1 documenting that hurricane activity is no higher now than in decades past. Hurricane expert William Gray reported just a few days earlier, on April 27, that the number of major hurricanes making landfall on the U.S. Atlantic coast has declined in the past 40 years. Hurricane scientists reported in the April 18 Geophysical Research Letters that global warming enhances wind shear, which will prevent a significant increase in future hurricane activity.

Gore claims global warming is causing an expansion of African deserts. However, the Sept. 16, 2002, issue of New Scientist reports, "Africa’s deserts are in ‘spectacular’ retreat . . . making farming viable again in what were some of the most arid parts of Africa."

He doesn’t stop there.  Go check it out for yourself.

If your objective about this subject you will realize that Gore and his minions only want one thing.  Power and control.  Their power comes from the ton’s of greenbacks that come their way with the more hysteria they introduce into society.  As that increases so does their power and reach.

But the tide is turning.

We all recognize that pollutants going into the atmosphere isn’t good for anyone, and sure…some controls should be placed to try to limit those.  But ruining economies and businesses to stop the pollutants, pollutants which DO NOT cause global warming, is not the answer.

Algored is insane.

I’m surprised Al didn’t say we contributed to the extreme temperatures on Mercury and Venus, or that he didn’t offer both planets carbon credits.

What a flippin’ fruitcake! I don’t suppose we can find a way to send his sorry hinder to Venus? 🙂

Al Gore is a quintesential bore.He should maybe run for planet clown instead of presidency.Doesn’t he know how he’s laughed at,I suppose he doesn’t care lunatics never do.

Too bad that Taylor resorted to fabricating a quote to attack Gore. Doesn’t that bother you?

What bothers me are people like you who buy his Gore’s crapola wholesale like your zombies. He’s a man trying to sell lies and you are buying it…..pretty sad actually but to each his own.

Doesn’t anyone do their homework anymore? A little checking into your “sources” finds out they quote opinions from non-scientists or omit the larger truths outlined in the very studies they cite. It is becoming more and more certain that climate warming exists — just ask the EXPERTS what they think.

finds out they quote opinions from non-scientists

As opposed to Gore? But he’s telling the truth right?

Geez

Specific to Al’s Mercury/Venus comparison, Mercury has an almost non-existent atmosphere. An atmosphere is needed to trap heat and thus warm the planet. So Prof. Al’s comparison of the two planets is unscientific at best, probably better described as junk science.

And this “We are 10 years from a tipping point” is another example of junk science. Ignoring the fact that this claim has been made for several years now (so are we ten years away or seven? or five?)…if true, then what is the point of switching to hybrid cars, the Kyoto accords, etc. to combat this pending doom?

Heck, we have seen 150+ years of carbon spewing industrialization, so rock concerts, “eco-friendly” cars (what they grow them on trees?) and solar panels on 10,000 sq ft mansions will, applying a little critical thought, do nothing to stop us from reaching the so-called tipping point that is a mere 10 years (or less to believe Al) away.

Mars atmosphere is 95% C02, that’s true; but, Mars’ atmosphere is also 1/9000th the density of Venus, so there’s no place to store the heat.

“Mars atmosphere is 95% C02, that’s true; but, Mars’ atmosphere is also 1/9000th the density of Venus, so there’s no place to store the heat.”

Good point about the Mars comparison and it also counters Gore’s simplistic “fact”: “It’s the carbon dioxide.”

Climate and planetary atmospheres provide complex systems for us to study, though Gore seems ready to draw unscientific conclusions to boost his political agenda.

Wasting your time on this global warming debate is  like so lame.
No person here has even mentioned the multi university study recently completed on ocean floor currants in the arctic area.
This study has some very interesting aspects.
The single most important one is that these studies almost certainly state that the global warming that we are seeing is caused by cyclical changes in ocean floor currants and are periodic. They have absolutely nothing to do with man made tall stories!!!!

Al Gore is a total idiot and so are the people affectionately known as environazis but the worst are the trained scientists who sell their credibility to the highest bidder and mock the name they call themselves.
SHAME SHAME SHAME !!!!!!!!!!!!

John,

This is an old article.  We have more on the main page which continues to debunk the environmental socialist doomsday claims.
