Can You Legislate Against Evil?

Posted by: Mike's America @ 11:17 am in Law Enforcement, Politics  | 0 views

What would have prevented tragedy at Virginia Tech?

I’ve been reticent to comment on the Virgina Tech horror. It’s a time for families to grieve, bury their dead and heal the wounds of the injured.

However, it’s regrettable that the incident has become immediately politicized by people with a gun control agenda.

Virginia Tech already had a strict no gun policy in place, only recently penalizing a student with a permit to carry a concealed weapon on campus. Perhaps if that licensed individual had been allowed to carry a firearm Monday’s tragedy would have been muted.

But that example points up the fact that no law can legislate against evil intentions. We also have laws against using automobiles in a conscious effort to injure or kill people but that didn’t stop Iranian born Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar, who attacked students at the University of North Carolina last year by driving an SUV into a crowd on campus.

As some have pointed out, it would make as much sense to ban foreign students as it would to ban guns. Millions of guns are in the hands of law abiding citizens and those persons don’t go on killing sprees.

I realize in the haze of thinking where one can only see shades of gray use of the word "evil" is about as black and white as you can get. But is it not EVIL to go on a killing spree?

Any attempt to legislate on moral grounds is shot down by the hazy gray thinkers, the same folks who would now impose restrictions on the very same law abiding gun owners who might have put a stop to this nightmare at Virginia Tech.

What’s clear is that at most academic institutions, what is lacking is not gun control, but any effective form of moral guidance, religious or otherwise, which forms a bulwark against evil intentions and PREVENTS such shocking and horrible events from occurring.

And perhaps that is an issue which needs to be addressed in the larger community as well. What a shame the same folks posturing on gun control will refuse to permit that debate!

For now, it is a time for Virginia Tech and the nation to mourn and a time to heal. But in the days ahead, let us not shrink from an honest debate on the causes of this evil act and what would really have prevented this nightmare.

Our hearts, our thoughts and our prayers are with you Virginia Tech. We remain as always "One nation, under God Indivisible."

Why didn’t one kid ring the FIRE ALARM?

Yeah. I was a kid more than fifty years ago. But back in those days it was common for teachers to show their students the FIRE ALARM BOX. And, kids were TOLD TO RING THE BELL.

We also saw where the fire hoses were. Yes. Behind glass. But it wasn THERE. OBVIOUS. DISCUSSED.

And, now?

The floosies on the left seem to do great “hand-wringing” schtick after the fact.

But you want facts? The PResident of Virginia Tech should be fired! Along with their “police chief.” If that’s chief material, then there’s something terribly wrong, here. WORSE! Parents expected this? Parents thought their kids were safe, because?

Because left-wing propaganda is the exclusive products of academics.

However, the spot light is on this. And, one fact you can take away is to be responsible, yourself. AND, AS SOON AS THERE’S GUNFIRE; or any insance commotion. RING THE FIRE ALARM. It will move into place, those who are really trained to keep you safer. THey’ll also see to it that buildings are evacuated. PRONTO. TONTO. They’re trained. And, they would have responded. Yes, the death toll would have been much less.

1. The kids wasn’t really your average “foreign student”. He lived in Centerville VA where his parents had a drycleaners. He had lived here since he was little … 6 or 7 years old. He grew up in Virginia.

2. What could have made a difference is for the students to resist. If people are in a room with no escape and someone begins to shoot, we need to teach our kids that the way to survive is to rush the shooter. Knock him down, stand on the weapon, stomp him, punch him, gouge out his eyes, whatever. Resist. The days where someone was simply treatening to kill in order to get some other thing are gone. These people are just out to kill as many as they can these days. Had those students and teachers rushed the killer, sure, some might have died but the toll would have been a lot less.

Sorry, but rushing the shooter is simply a way to die faster. Unless everyone does it together. And it takes time to coordinate that kind of counterattack. Even Todd Beamer would tell you that.
But you make a good point. What is the plan? There is none and that’s not good enough. Blaming conservatives and guns is not good enough. Using massacres for political purposes is not a plan. If my child hears a shot when he’s sitting in class I want him to at least have an idea what to do besides hide under the desk or jump out a third story window. He knows where to go and what to do if there is a fire. But if he hears a shot?
It sounds ridiculous unless you are in this position. Then it would be the best idea in the world to know 1) the door to your classroom has a heavy lock and a reinforced panel 2) your teacher has a stun gun and some mace locked in his desk 3)somewhere in the building there is a safe with a gun in it and SOMEONE, maybe even a liberal administrator, who has volunteered and PLANNED to get it ahead of time and USE it if necessary to protect the children 4) If you are in the gym or the lunchroom you know to go to that room. Maybe you won’t make it. But at least you have hope and a plan. Maybe you will even be lucky and get to run away from the sound of the bullets.
Have you ever heard of anything like this in America today? No? Why? Maybe because liberals are in charge of the education establishment and they don’t believe in war. Or guns. They do believe in victims rights. So you do have the right to jump out the window just this once. But don’t pray before you jump. It’s against school policy.

Cho Seung-hui was referred to counseling, had supposedly started a fire in the dorm and stalked girls, but, if true, was not arrested and expelled from VT. That would have probably prevented the murders. Seemly colleges have no consequences unless you use un-PC language. At VT one student has been arrested recently because he was carrying even thought he had a CCW. Another has written that he had a CCW but was afraid to carry on campus; if caught he would be expelled. The school had elected to remain a free fire zone, ah, gun free zone and apparently not expel those who commit violent acts. The mini-riot against the Minuteman speaker at Columbia University resulted in little punishment for the rioters. Where is the rule of law and common civility enforcemnt on today’s campuses; apparently the Broken Window Theory in not practiced at colleges.

Was the gun registered to the shooter?

“But don’t pray before you jump. It’s against school policy.”

Thanks David2. I needed some humor to lighten the mood.

I guess we’ll find out in the days ahead what happened inside that building where most of the murders occurred. It’s hard to believe that people just stood there cringing until it was their turn to get shot.

Skye: News is that he bought these weapons but I’d wait and see what comes out in the next few days. Early reports are often wrong.
