The Gore Hypocrisy & Other Global Warming Idiocy

Now this is quite amusing, and sad.  Al Gore who was recently outed as someone who wastes a ton of energy and helps to pollute this planet told the media that even though he uses alot of energy he makes up for it by buying a bunch of Carbon Offsets.  A Carbon Offset is this really cool scam in which you can pollute as much as you want but still feel good about yourself if you have the money.  All you have to do is pay money to an environmentally friendly entity to compensate for personally using non-green energy.

So if your rich then pollute all you want, even while making a movie about Global Warming, all you have to do is open your wallet and you can feel better.

The kicker to all this is that Al Gore helped found the company in which he buys these Carbon Offsets:

Gore helped found Generation Investment Management, through which he and others pay for offsets. The firm invests the money in solar, wind and other projects that reduce energy consumption around the globe, she said.

So in essence he buys these Carbon Offsets from himself and in so doing boosts his investment by making the company more successful and ta-da….more money.

The hypocrisy of this man knows no bounds.

As Anti-Media said, if the roles were reversed there would be hell to pay:

Imagine the president of General Motors flying all over the world trumpeting a new technology for transportation while he quietly buys more and more of the very stock that will dramatically increase in value through his efforts. Think anyone might be a bit upset by that? Imagine him getting an Oscar for his efforts!

But when it’s one of the lefties golden children our MSM stays hands off.  No need to make a big deal about his hypocrisy.

I give you Mark Steyn in all his glory absolutely skewering Reverend Al:

Al’s massive energy consumption is due entirely to his concern about the way we’re depleting the Earth’s resources. When I say "we," I don’t mean Al, of course. I mean you — yes, you, Earl Schlub, in the basement apartment at 29 Elm St. You’re irresponsibly depleting the Earth’s resources by using that electric washer when you could be down by the river with the native women beating your loin cloth dry on the rock while singing traditional village work chants all morning long. But up at the Gore mansion — the Nashville Electric Service’s own personal gold mine, the shining Cathedral of St. Al, Tennessee’s very own Palace of Versal — the Reverend Al is being far more environmentally responsible. As his spokesperson attempted to argue, his high energy usage derives from his brave calls for low energy usage. He’s burning up all that electricity by sending out faxes every couple of minutes urging you to use less electricity.

Also he buys — and if you’re a practicing Ecopalyptic please prostrate yourself before the Recycling Bin and make the sign of the HDPE — Al buys "carbon offsets," or "carbon credits." Or, as his spokesperson Kalee Kreider put it (and, incidentally, speaking through a spokesperson is another way Al dramatically reduces his own emissions), the Gores "also do the carbon emissions offset."

[…]So in the Reverend Al’s case it doesn’t matter that he’s lit up like Times Square on V-E Day. Because he’s paid for his extravagant emissions. He has a carbon-offset trader in an environmentally friendly carbon-credits office suite who buys "carbon offsets" for Al from, say, a terrorist mastermind in a cave in the Pakistani tribal lands who’s dramatically reduced his energy usage mainly because every time he powers up his cell phone or laptop a light goes on in Washington and an unmanned drone starts heading his way. So, aside from a basic cable subscription to cheer himself up watching U.S. senators talking about "exit strategies" on CNN 24/7, the terrorist mastermind doesn’t deplete a lot of resources. Which means Tipper can watch Al give a speech on a widescreen plasma TV, where Al looks almost as wide as in life, and she doesn’t have to feel guilty because it all comes out . . . carbon-neutral!

And, in fact, in the Reverend Al’s case it’s even better than that. Al buys his carbon offsets from Generation Investment Management LLP, which is "an independent, private, owner-managed partnership established in 2004 and with offices in London and Washington, D.C.," that, for a fee, will invest your money in "high-quality companies at attractive prices that will deliver superior long-term investment returns." Generation is a tax-exempt U.S. 501(c)3. And who’s the chairman and founding partner? Al Gore.

So Al can buy his carbon offsets from himself. Better yet, he can buy them with the money he gets from his long-time relationship with Occidental Petroleum. See how easy it is to be carbon-neutral? All you have do is own a gazillion stocks in Big Oil, start an eco-stockbroking firm to make eco-friendly investments, use a small portion of your oil company’s profits to buy some tax-deductible carbon offsets from your own investment firm, and you too can save the planet while making money and leaving a carbon footprint roughly the size of Godzilla’s at the start of the movie when they’re all standing around in the little toe wondering what the strange depression in the landscape is.

Ah the left, their hypocrisy is mind boggling.

• Newsbusters – On Al Gore complaining that there is too much openness in the media, you see all MSM outfits should not be allowed to tell the viewer/reader that there are actually scientists out there who dispute man-made Global Warming.

• National Geographic – Simultaneous warming on Earth and Mars suggests that our planet’s recent climate changes have a natural—and not a human- induced—cause, according to one scientist’s controversial theory.
• The Anchoress – Reminds us that 17,000 scientists don’t believe in the Global Warming religion.

Oh, and don’t forget to watch the new documentary by Channel 4 in the UK called The Great Global Warming Swindle.  Here is a primer:

The film brings together the arguments of leading scientists who disagree with the prevailing consensus that a ‘greenhouse effect’ of carbon dioxide released by human activity is the cause of rising global temperatures.

Instead the documentary highlights recent research that the effect of the sun’s radiation on the atmosphere may be a better explanation for the regular swings of climate from ice ages to warm interglacial periods and back again.

The film argues that the earth’s climate is always changing, and that rapid warmings and coolings took place long before the burning of fossil fuels. It argues that the present single-minded focus on reducing carbon emissions not only may have little impact on climate change, it may also have the unintended consequence of stifling development in the third world, prolonging endemic poverty and disease.

Ok, so those of us in the States are going to have a hard time watching it but I’m hoping it goes up on Google Video soon after the air date on March 8th.

UPDATE

Wordsmith notes in the comment section that the petition by 17,000 scientists include many non-climate type scientists, which is quite true.  So here is the list of the 2,660 out of the 17,000 who are scientists in the related fields of Physicists, Geophysicists, Climatologists, Meteorologists, Oceanographers, and Environmental Scientists who indeed have the necessary knowledge to study the evidence we now have today and come to the conclusion that man-made Global Warming is a hoax.

Additionally, 5,017 of the signers are scientists in the field of Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, and other Life Sciences which

make them especially well qualified to evaluate the effects of carbon dioxide upon the Earth’s plant and animal life.

The petition organizer also states:

Nearly all of the initial 17,100 scientist signers have technical training suitable for the evaluation of the relevant research data, and many are trained in related fields. In addition to these 17,100, approximately 2,400 individuals have signed the petition who are trained in fields other than science or whose field of specialization was not specified on their returned petition.

Of the 19,700 signatures that the project has received in total so far, 17,800 have been independently verified and the other 1,900 have not yet been independently verified. Of those signers holding the degree of PhD, 95% have now been independently verified. One name that was sent in by enviro pranksters, Geri Halliwell, PhD, has been eliminated. Several names, such as Perry Mason and Robert Byrd are still on the list even though enviro press reports have ridiculed their identity with the names of famous personalities. They are actual signers. Perry Mason, for example, is a PhD Chemist.

So all in all I feel comfortable enough to come to the conclusion that this petition is indeed a great tool to highlight that the debate is NOT over.
