The Iraq Trifecta!

The Democrats are continuing on the route to total withdrawal of funds for the troops with their support of the new House resolution:

As the House opened debate on a no frills, to-the-point resolution disapproving of President Bush’s proposed troop surge, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) officially jettisoned his previous support for the much wordier Warner-Levin measure, which the Senate had been considering.

"It’s so much more simple: We support the troops, we oppose the surge. Perfect," Reid told reporters after a weekly luncheon with his Democratic caucus.

Why would I say they are on this route?  Well, because this new resolution contains NO promise to keep the troops funded.  Wonder why Reid is dropping support for the backstabbing Warner’s resolution?  It’s because of this fact.

The Republicans wanted a debate on their counter resolutions:

"This resolution is the first step in the Democrats’ plan to cut off funding for American troops who are in harm’s way, and their leaders have made this abundantly clear," Boehner said in a release yesterday. "If Democrats are serious about supporting our troops, they will allow Republicans to offer a substantive alternative that binds the Congress to an unwavering and unambiguous commitment to fund the American men and women who wear our uniform."

Which I think is fair seeing how Pelosi complained so much about not being able to offer counter resolutions when she was in the minority (h/t Mark Kilmer)

These are the words she uttered when the Republicans were about to pass a Iraq-GWOT resolution, H.Res. 861, in June of 2006:

"It’s really unfortunate, as the president contends that we are fighting for democracy in Iraq, that we can’t have democracy on the House floor. No open rule. No amendments. No Democratic alternative allowed," Pelosi said.

No hypocrisy there huh?

Well, the Republicans wanted that debate but were shot down:

The House Rules Committee voted along party lines late Monday to close the debate on a non-binding resolution that rejects President Bush’s plan to add more troops to Iraq, ignoring House Republicans’ pleas to allow amendments.

So we have the House putting up a cut and run  "non-binding" resolution to tell our troops that their mission is not worth dying for just as "the surge" seems to be working:

According to senior military officials, al Sadr left Baghdad two to three weeks ago and fled to Tehran, Iran, where he has family.

Al Sadr commands the Mahdi army, one of the most formidable insurgent militias in Iraq, and his move coincides with the announced U.S. troop surge in Baghdad.

Sources believe al Sadr is worried about an increase of 20,000 U.S. troops in the Iraqi capital. One official told ABC News’ Martha Raddatz, "He is scared he will get a JDAM [bomb] dropped on his house."

Sources say some of the Mahdi army leadership went with al Sadr.

Though he is gone for now, many believe al Sadr is not gone for good. In Tehran he is trying to keep the Mahdi militia together.

Which is ridiculous.  The fanatical Islam fighters see their "leader" running because he is scared and the press thinks he is going to be able to lead again?  Come on!

Allah, being his usual pessimistic self agrees with the press:

They’re just lying low until we’re gone, when they’ll come home and reemerge to reclaim power. It wasn’t hard to see it coming; even an idiot like me has been calling it for months.

Ridiculous.

Then think about this.  Iran has been denying the fact that they are supporting insurgents inside Iraq, they have been denying this as one of the big shots of the insurgents, Mr. Sadr, was running to them.  They then give him safe harbor.

Bill Roggio:

While the reports indicate Sadr is staying with family, a source in the U.S. intelligence community told us Sadr is under the protection of the Iranian government. "Sadr is currently being protected by Qods Force," the same Iranian special forces unit that is believed to have executed U.S. soldiers in Karbala, Iraq, and has been supplying Sunni and Shia terrorists with weapons, support and agents to killed Coalition forces. Members of Qods Force are currently in U.S. custody.

Uh, hello?  This mic working?

This is a trifecta for our troops, our country, and Bush.  The surge caused one of our enemies leaders to run and hide like a little girl to the very country we have been accusing of helping our enemy, which they denied.  At the same time the Democrats are talking about how much they disagree with the surge because it wont work.

Wowza!
