It appears that new UN get tough policy is working huh? (via Threats Watch)

A North Korean ship bound for Iran has been detained and inspected in India according to the Mumbai Mirror. Having run into mechanical problems and become disabled, the North Korean freighter apparently drifted into Indian waters where it was boarded and then towed to Bombay docks. The ship, however, was empty when Indian crews reached it.

“What is most suspicious is the fact that though it is a cargo ship, they are not carrying any consignment or goods,” said a Coast Guard officer. The authorities are now examining the freighter to find if any contraband is hidden somewhere.

Some interesting observations are made by Steve at Threats Watch. Namely that the freighter never made a distress call. They just drifted into India’s waters in complete silence. Also, cargo ships would never sail empty especially when it was coming from a cash strapped country like NK.

Steve believes the cargo was dumped overboard once they realized they were not going to be able to move under their own control and then told to keep silent by North Korea.

It makes complete sense since why in the hell would a cargo ship be empty?

But the bigger question is how did this ship get out from under the radar of the UN?
